Well, this is quite a game you have here.

Question: why would you ever try to deal morale damage when it'd cost you a turn to do so and due to the Pose ability, it'll only put an opponent out of the fight for one turn at most? And its success is far from guaranteed?

>> No.23148417

>>23148370
That's the kind of issue that I hope to iron out through testing/skill upgrades. The one time it would come up currently is if the attacker is way hotter than the target and also has an ally to actually deal damage. You're correct in saying that this isn't ideal.

>> No.23148509

>>23148417

You could combine the Hot-Off and Pose abilities to make it so that you could only rebuild morale by proving hotter than others.

Or maybe allow morale to go into the negatives so that a Pose wouldn't be a guaranteed way to get back into the fight in the next turn. Maybe at -10 your character starts crying and runs away in embarrassment or something.

Also, you could make Hot-Off affect multiple targets, with only the highest roller not taking morale damage. That'd let the prettiest princess among the bikini barbarians bully the rest off the field of battle.

>you could only rebuild morale by proving hotter than others.
Fucking genius, right here.

>Maybe at -10 your character starts crying and runs away in embarrassment or something.
Yeah I think there need to be steeper penalties, to be sure.

>Also, you could make Hot-Off affect multiple targets, with only the highest roller not taking morale damage. That'd let the prettiest princess among the bikini barbarians bully the rest off the field of battle.
"I'S DA PRETTIEST"

Well, you've given me plenty of revisions to make, and for this I thank you.

>> No.23148722

>>23148586

You shouldn't make morale attacks strictly better than fighting, though, unless you just want disputes to be resolved by nothing but posing.

It might be better to scrap the morale points system and instead of doing morale damage, hotness attacks give a combat advantage.

Speaking of combat advantages, flanking providing both +2 to attack and -2 to defense is a really huge swing. Did you mean to write it that way?

>> No.23148808

Also, I'd be happy to help you playtest and tweak this, do you want to start an IRC channel or something?

>It might be better to scrap the morale points system and instead of doing morale damage, hotness attacks give a combat advantage.
Actually, this is not a bad idea. It gets rid of some bookkeeping and lets the skill upgrades related to hot-offs be varied (ie, the default is -1 to attack, but can be upgraded to various better things on levelup)

>Speaking of combat advantages, flanking providing both +2 to attack and -2 to defense is a really huge swing. Did you mean to write it that way?
My concern was that combat would take too long under the normal system, so yes. I might knock it down to +1/-1 though.

Most of those seem to overlap too much with the cloth bikini/robe. What classes/cliches are they associated with? Pasties could be a hotomancer, and chaps could be a 4e brawler/agility fighter, but beyond that I'm stumped.

I assumed they'd be hired by an old guy in a tavern.

Metal pasties are a very Boris Vallejo thing

>> No.23155295

The core mechanic is pretty busted. Assume the other person has a Dex of 4 and you attack with a 4 stat of your own.

You hit on 4 or less, so 66% of the time. However, they dodge on a 4 or less, so they're only hit 33% of the time you make a successful attack roll. 2/3*1/3=2/9, which means that even with a 4 in your attack stat, you'll only hit someone with 4 dex 22% of the time.
If their dex is 3, then it's 2/3*1/2=2/6, or 33% of the time.

2 Dex means you hit 44% of the time.

And if you're attacking someone with 1 dex, you'll still only hit 55% of the time.

Before you decide on a core mechanic for a system, you should at least pay attention to whether or not the math works.

Different anon here, but I suspect that granting bonuses to the attacker's roll level it out a bit.

If you have a 4 that you're rolling against but your weapon gives you a +1 on attacks, you succeed 5/6ths of the time, whereas the defender only avoids harm 2/3rds of the time.

Pile on a default defensive penalty and you'll land a lot more blows.

>> No.23155484

>Yeah, but they aren't really associated with a D&D character type.

>> No.23155527

>>23155429
Yeah, I'm leaning towards this. I'll probably give weapons bonuses, and put a flat penalty on dodging. I'd hoped to avoid such things, but better math than combat slowdown, I guess. Doing this now.

>>23155484
Well, yeah, but that's the point. How do I emulate the art? How do I make mechanics that go well with metal pasties? What is a character that wears metal pasties good at and bad at?

>> No.23155528

>>23155377

Get rid of the "roll your stat or under" part. It doesn't add anything. Mathematically, every check has a base DC of 7. That is, Dex 4 can be looked at as either "roll a 4 or less" OR it could be looked at as "roll d6+4, succeed on a 7 or higher".

Now that you're back to just adding a straight mod to a roll, you can just make attacks opposed checks.

>> No.23155806

I think that's a great starting point. Maybe you could have high-quality magic weapons have their own alternate hit tables.

This could result in some weapons being truly exquisite, but their benefits are lost upon the unskiled (benefits for high-stat wielders, no real benefit for less-skilled). Or items that are the magical equipment of training wheels for bikini babes (benefit for 2 or 3 stat, no benefit for 4 or 5).

Just spitballin.
