That was my favorite part of the story actually.

Think about it this way, the Crane's idea of being decent with ships is throw money into building a slightly bigger ship than a Kobune and profit. It's so like them to start doing something for themselves then suddenly start saying 'Well look at this, I guess X isn't so good at doing Y after all since we can do it just as well.'

Personally I enjoyed seeing some little twit of a crane getting steamrolled.

Samurai duel with swords. If you don't have to get within 100 paces to deal with your opponents, then what's the point? Life is not so cheap, nor responsibility that easily diminished. If you're in a duel, you're close enough to smell the other's breath and to see each drop of sweat. Anything else insults the duel and what it represents.

>> No.21205209

>>21205197

No. Life is cheap. Taking it is not a hard act. That is why one should seek to avoid it if possible. Not because it is hard but because it is easy.

Also, you insult Shuganja by saying that only duels with swords are valid. Taryu-jiai is just as true as Iajutsu.

Shuganja are touched by the Kami. It's fitting that their ways are different. Taking life is not a hard act, and that is why each member of the duel should not be far from the consequences of it. If an issue is important enough to warrant a duel, then it's important enough to be looking your opponent in the eye, face to face when he dies.

Don't get me wrong, the bow's a noble calling, and certainly a worthy skill, but a duel has a unique character to it, one that demands a more suitable weapon.

Yeah, I thought that was how it worked; the katana is their soul, the wakizashi their honor (hence why they cleanse their honor with their guts). Though I wonder if that is the case only because it'd be really hard to do that with a long katana.

Then again, there are a few legends in Stephen Turnbull's books about samurai who did commit hardcore suicide with their katanas. Bear with me here...

One of them charged his horse at enemy lines, stuck his katana in his mouth, and jumped at his enemies, dying on impact.

The other, upon realizing capture was imminent, stuck his sword into a nearby wall and ran at the edge to decapitate himself.

Man, I wish I remembered which books those were detailed in. I was laughing for days after I read those accounts.

He's a bodyguard in the side of one of the Tokugawa lords. Due to some past fail, he decided to die on the next battle, hoping a heavy (yet carriable) mortuary tablet for a standard would help him in the process.

I'll be honest, I've never heard of an actual memorial tablet being carried into battle, but there are some other weird helmets and standards that were used. You had things like the Red Devil unit who wore pic related. Some guy called Kato Kiyomasa had a helmet that looked like an over-sized courtier's cap (made of wood and paper mache).

Tokugawa Ieyasu's couriers in battle wore a big standard on their back that was the Japanese word for the number five (no clue why).

All things considered, it was relatively tame for some samurai who had served during the Imjin War in Korea to wear tiger-pelts on their scabbards...

He's still below entry-level. He's kinda holding on by writing entry-level texts about fairly specialized stuff that alows him to exclude the greater historic context.

Seriously, "Teeth and Claws of the Buddha" vs "Japanese Warrior Monks AD 949-1603"? That's not even a contest.

The new books on specific guns were sorta okay as light reading material. Other stuff - like their recent publications on Ottoman fortifications - are okay, I guess. I mean, it's not like you could easily find entry-level texts on a subject as outlandish as that.

"And then the noble Kenshinzen smiled and shook her head, looking both stern and kind and amused as she took her stance, palm-up in the traditional Kakita manner. 'I will not require a horse, Moto-kun.' she said, her eyes crinkling with laughter. The hooting half-gaijin Unicorn was taken aback by her poise, but his own aggression spurred him to charge at her, shouting at his horse to run her down. In a single motion she drew, and cut the head from the horse with a single stroke, a crystalline tear falling from her eye at the waste of life, flowing away like a leaf on the wind. The Moto was so stunned by the intensity and purity of her aura that he could not catch himself and broke his neck. The end."

Well, first off, the game is a minor clan game set in a place the Crane hold in canon. So there are A LOT of nearby Crane. Including two specific families. One is the family of a PC's fiancee. She has 11 sisters. They're all beautiful Doji girls.
Then, there's the family of the Kakita bushi PC. His mother was born a Doji and his sister takes after her mother.
They're currently spending the winter at Kyuden Doji.

On the other hand, none of the Scorpion girls (the three or four of them introduced) have been noteworthy, which is funny when compared to relevant card art.

>> No.21228962

>>21228857
It should be noted that the Kakita PC's family is the best worst kind of manipulators.

You don't believe they're actually manipulating you until you look back on it. Until then, you think they're just being nice.

The Phoenix PC is already halfway seduced by his sister and would never admit it.
