[ERROR] No.20720072 [DELETED]  [Reply] [Original] [4plebs] [archived.moe]

So long story short, does anyone of you have a number of images depicting vikings one might want to share?

Gonna go on a LARP with a few bros soon and thought I might get inspirations for some things I could make.
Bags, pouches and so on could be useful. Got 20 kg of leather to work with in different colors.

>> No.20720093

I'll dump some images I have myself, but one can simply not have enough images of vikings being vikings.

Those look less like Vikings and more like Normans, or other continental 11th century soldiers.

>> No.20720143

I know, it might sound shameful, but Vinland Saga is fucking awesome for viking images...

Well, yeah, I get these things mixed up a lot. But I dumped anything with axes and round shields in hopes of getting the thread bumped a few times, so people might see it and stick around posting some stuff.
Also: thx for the links!

OH WOW, VIKINGS LOOKING LIKE NORMANS! WHAT ARE THE ODDS?

Vinland saga is awesome for everything, great characters just ripe for blatant plagiarizing.

That is some very incorrect Finnish. Also, the vikings didn't speak Finnish.

Eh, google translate, and I wasn't going to try translate "Haters gonna hate" into Old Norse

Some did. Viking was a profession, not a nationality. Any band of sailing robbers in longboats was "viking", though the bulk were norse/dane.

Incoming Viking LARP dump, placeholder

>> No.20722489

>>20722459
Well, maybe you should've tried Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, or Icelandic, which are Scandinavian languages with their roots in Old Norse. Finnish is completely unrelated to them and thus makes no sense. (also, shouldn't be too hard to google the correct phrase in any of those languages)

>> No.20722528

>hatere vil hate

eh sounds lame

>> No.20722534

>>20722470
Yeah, but it vas a norse word. so only norse-speaking people would be called vikings

This is possibly better, any Icelandic people here to confirm?

>> No.20723007

>>20722926
Not Icelandic, but I believe it should be "Hatar skulu hata"

>> No.20723070

>>20723007
Actually, "Hatar ætla að hata" might be better. But as I said, I'm not Icelandic so not completely sure.

>> No.20723137

>>20723070
Ok, I did some more research, and it could be any of the following:

Hatar munu hata. (It is probable that the haters will hate in the future)
Hatar skulu hata. (The haters are determined to hate in the future)
Hatar ætla að hata. (The haters intend to hate in the future)

So it's down to how you interpret the "gonna". I'm not 100% sure about whether the correct plural from for "hatur" is "hatar", or whether the definite form should be used (or whether the word "hatur" is the correct word at all).

>> No.20723279

I'm pretty sure this discussion is concentrated /tg/.

>>20723137
I'd say the last one.

>> No.20723320

>>20722926
>>20723137
I think it might just be "Hatur Hata"
If it is anything like the other skandinavian languages it might translate to "Haters is hating".
