Hey /tg/,
I wanna read some 40K literature, what would be a good place to start?

Oh son I hope you know what kinda shit you just stepped into on /tg/. There is no right answer here. All of the choices are wrong. That being said.
If you want nothing but balls and bolters guard regement.
Gaunts Ghosts.
The Last Chancers

There is a few Inquisition books that are not to bad.

Ultramarines have gotten worse with each book.

It is all personal preference. They are all for the most part readable. It is up to you what you will enjoy out of them.

This.
Way better than an "Official Grimderp literature" and I use the term literature very loosely in this context.

Seconded. I mean, it's exactly the same book seven times, but it's a damn fun book. There's some excellent fanfiction about him as well.

Storm of Iron

Best book 40k put out that are about not-imperium.
Also possibly the Word Bearers Omnibus. Just got that, and I have no idea how it is, but the first chapter's been pretty good.

These threads and their ken surface often enough that I feel a /tg/ lit sticky is warranted.

Oh and also I have enjoyed the Horus Heresy series. There are a couple of low points but overall a wonderful 20 book read.

The soul drinkers book series was interesting, to say the least. But I would pick commissar Cain for your early reading.

ALL OF IT IS SHIT.

I mean seriously, I enjoy some of it, but there are no good books in this setting. I've read all I can get my hands on, but it's brainflush material, not like sitting down to Chia Melvill or Terry Pratchett.

In the grim darkness of the far future, you just buy the fucking "Hero of the Imperium" omnibus.

I liked Eisenhorn and Ravenor, they expand upon the 40K universe in an interesting way by showing how crazy Xenos and other monsters can get and the writing's not half bad. However, some people really didn't like them as much.

Do not read Inquisition War or anything by Ian Watson. Even if you have a scat fetish it's not worth it.

>> No.19897720

only space marien battle book worth reading apparently is battle of the fang, but the whole Horus herasy series keps itself going at a fairly steady pace, dark angels books are slow as fuck, but liek the good gent have said, Gaunt's ghosts, ciaphas cain
