the laser bord. An odd creature. Normally using its head mounted lense to emit low intensity light like a flashlight, it can focus the beam, dim it, or strobe. As a method of defense it can also emit single wavelength tight beam light, in essence, a laser. This can blind, or scaled up, burn enough to drive away most predators, as the hard shelled laser bord is not worth the burns and effort. As a last ditch effort, it will over power its laser creating a 3-5 second cutting beam. This will overwhelm its natural lense and burn it badly, the regeneration takes days, much like the surface of our own eyes after PRK or LASIC surgery (but that takes months). This is a dramatic if not somewhat risky display, as laser bord are not communal creatures, meeting only to mate, or in passing during feeding. They will defend each other when around one another.
While overcharging their laser they are known to do "the flappy dance" where their tiny wings wildly flap and they shake and bounce wildly from the knees while their feet remain firmly planted. It is a last ditch warning display before they fire their laser!!!
