Consider the fact that it would've likely been used against Germany if the European war hadn't ended before that point and the implications become clear.

WWII was actually an attempt by the Allies and Axis to revive the power of the Old Gods, who are actually the original human race.

The Axis was trying to actually revive Old Humanity, as seen in Hitler's eugenics and the Japanese's insistent belief that their Emperor was in fact a god. Presumably Nazi Germany was more interested in creating a superior race, while the Japanese high command simply wished for their Emperor, already from a carefully culled bloodline that maintained some level of power, to attain true apotheosis through gaining the powers of Old Humanity. The Allies on the other hand were of the opinion that the time of the Old Humans had passed and were only interested in acquiring their power to lead New Humanity into a new age of prosperity.

"Winston! You'll never find me!"
Churchill's grip on his Prime Minister's desk tightened as he sought his target across the Channel.
"Give up, Winston! The very best Nazi psychics are shielding me!"
Adolf's voice rang loud and clear inside the British leader's head, as if the orator himself was bending down beside him, that horrid moustache not inches from his ear. The inherited, hypnotic force of will that had swayed so much of Germany was now directing itself at Winston Churchill.
"It's useless to continue! Lay down your arms, and surrender!"
"NEVER! We will fight you on the beaches, we will fight you in the fiel-"
"Fields, meadows, we've heard it all before. I will hunt you down and wrench the life from your eyes, wherever you may hide!"
Winston pushed his mind, pushed it a thousand miles away to Nazi Germany, where the dictator's bunker was psychically shielded against his own telekinetic powers. All he needed was one small opening, somewhere to push through-
There! An infinitesimally small crack in the concrete was all there was available, but Churchill rammed his augmented mind into the gap, widening it with brute psychic force, allowing his presence into the space beyond.
"I'm coming for you, you murdering bastard."
"Nein. You cannot win."
"That's what Gobbels said."
"And he was a fool. I have made sure of my own protection."

The ur-race were Atlanteans - True Humans.
Red - Fire
Brown - Earth
Blonde - Air
Black - Water
White - True Human

As humans age, the elemental essence within them slowly leeches out, returning them to a more Human state. However, their life force by this point is already so diminished that they are too late to begin taking up magic most of the time. However, this is why wizards and other magicians are usually portrayed as people old enough to have white hair.

Now, what about eye colour and skin tone?

Winston was close now. He could FEEL the dark, reaching mind of the genocidal dictator, extending its' influence over the guards in the bunker. Winston ignored them, and went straight for the center. He didn't have much time, and his presence in such a protected location was beginning to fade. Churchill wouldn't be able to make much of a hole in Hitler's body, but he was strong-willed and could put force behind a psychic blow like a gunshot.

The mind of the guards in Hitler's inner sanctum were blank, dark spaces. Their leader had erased everything except an unwavering loyalty to him, one that came before even self-preservation. There was no sound except their shallow, regular breathing and the sound of the Fuher's deep inhalations and exhalations. He was looking for his hated enemy Churchill, and wasn't finding him outside the complex.
With a start, Adolf's body turned to look at something only his mind could perceive - Winston's mind moving past the solid concrete wall like a ghost.
"Yes, me."
"No, no, no! Guards!"
"It's over, Adolf. The guards can't see me."
With a jerk, Hitler swung up his body's hand and revealed a pistol. He fired it multiple times into the oncoming psychic spectre of Churchhill, each shot pass through it as if Winston wasn't there.

Fire = Amber

Hazel is a combination of eye colors, and indicates natural attunement to all elements a la Avatar: the Last Airbender.

Red/Pink/Purple tend to come with Albinism. Not sure what those would be.

Redheads tend to come with Green eyes, which makes sense since Fire needs Wood to burn.

>> No.18222997

Hmmm, but then fire, water, and earth have overlap, but air doesn't. I think it would make more sense for there to either be no overlap or complete overlap. As for red/pink/purple being an albino colour and the suggestion that white hair is the original Atlantean colour, I think that implies that albinism is the natural state, that pigment was introduced by elemental mixings. The reason why albinos tend not to develop magic has more to do with lacking any sort of tutors or education than anything else.

Liking where this thread is going, though I do have a question/suggestion:

Why would the supposed Atlanteans get all freaky with the elementals in the first place? Apparently there HAD to be some sort of event which ended the Atlantean civilization and dispersed the few survivors. Perhaps they realized that to both keep their gift of magic alive and to continue their lineage the best they can, they turned to the compatible elementals for mating purposes.

I believe I can see a campaign where the PCs are seeking the ruins of Atlantis and to rediscover True Magic.

I think gray hair would either be considered the same as white (True Magic) or would be the equivalent of a person who's part-way to white hair, like any older person starting to go gray. So, I suppose his hair would mean he's Water transitioning into True Magic? And his eyes mean metal.

As for why they mated with elementals, I think it would simply be a case of elementals being far more fecund than pure humans. The pure humans would be like fantasy elves or deities - long-lived, nigh immortal, and lucky to produce a single child in a century. They mating with elementals became frequent enough that soon the half-humans far outnumbered the pure humans. Once that happened, the remaining pure humans slowly bred into the half-human stock (creating some bloodlines that are quarter-elemental and thus with a predisposition towards some magic) and that was the end of that.

Well, the problem with attempting to pursue True Magic in this day and age is that there are no bodies of knowledge to draw on and no tutors to learn from. It takes something rare, like discovering an ancient Human archive or a tutor from one of the rare surviving lines to pursue True Magic. Otherwise it's like a man from the stone age trying to construct a computer.

Much more common would be people using rituals to attune themselves to their elemental sides, using elemental magic instead of True Magic. Red-headed fire conjurers, gray-eyed bullet-curvers, and so on.

One of the original contributors of the True Humans theory here. Don't know if it has any weight, but the way I imagined this was as follows:

-True Humans were not meant to be modeled after elves, but rather the gods of the Greek/Norse/Egyptian/Mesopotamian pantheons et al. Although according to the theory it's actually the other way around, and the tales of gods were actually the results of Low Humans encountering True Humans back when they were still around.
-True Humans didn't have a low birth rate. It was up to par with the normal humans of today.
-True Humans had unique genetic traits which enabled them to breed with almost any variant of humanoid beings, including elemental spirits. Thus, instead of producing children which were extremely close to one race or the other, or creating infertile hybrids, the children of these pairings were fertile hybrids which had characteristics of both. Demigods, in a way. Or rather, Demihumans.
-Genetic flexibility bullshit combined with magic made it so that True Human genetics don't follow the dominant/recessive pattern that allows full emergence of dormant True Human characteristics further down the line. At least, such things become impossible once we get past the first couple of generations post-interbreeding. What actually happens is that the Demihumans propagate more of their own kind, with varying degrees of magical ability and elemental attunement. Further interbreeding between the Demihumans eventually resulted in the Low Humans of today.
-Magical ability wanes the further down the line things get, due to dilution of True Human ancestry. Careful pairings and marriages could eventually create a lineage that had greater tendency toward magical power, but can never fully attain the level possessed by a True Human without heavy usage of Magical shenanigans.

>> No.18229619

To summarize, True Humans were not really meant to be an elf analogue but a precursor analogue. They have normal birth rates but don't produce more True Humans unless mating with other True Humans or early-generation Demihumans, and mating with non-True Humans creates hybrids that while fertile eventually lead to loss of magic down the line resulting in Low Humans. Considering that all the elementals and nature spirits were probably way easier to bed than fellow True Humans, eventually the Demihuman population far outnumbered the True Humans. The cycle proceeded toward its logical conclusion since Demihumans and Low Humans were coming into existence at a far faster rate. It's not low birth rate that was the issue, but rather societal conditions and the for lack of a better word, recessive nature of True Human abilities.

>> No.18229635

Okay, that makes a great deal more sense than another elf analogue. Thanks.

>> No.18229653

I was the one who proposed the 'elf analogue,' and I intended it only as a metaphor. It was a means of illustration, not literally saying they were analogous to elves. I agree with the guy above, but would still suggest that True Humans have had a somewhat lower birth rate than mixed humans and elementals. That would more efficiently result in True Human blood becoming sufficiently diluted.

Well, the point is that the disappearance of the True Humans wasn't due to low birth rate, but rather an excessive birth rate. All children produced by True Humans mating with other races were still "human", just not True Human. True Humans have the following genetic influences on their descendants, when mating outside their own race:

What race is it?
-True Human genes are Super-Dominant here. Any hybrid with a True Human parent is a "human". No half-dragons, half-elves, half-animals, half-orcs, half-elementals and shit.
What characteristics does it have, in terms of variation within a species?
-True Human characteristics are Super-Recessive compared to those of Demihumans, and Low Humans even more so.

In other words, in terms of genetic dominance:
Demihuman/Low Human>True Human>Nonhuman

So since True Humans were screwing nonhumans so much they created an excessive amount of Demihumans and Low Humans, which eventually squeezed the True Human lineages out of existence due to how numerous they were combined with their more dominant genetic characteristics. The True Humans didn't die out due to a low birth rate, but the opposite. They literally fucked so much that they fucked themselves out of existence.

And yes, I know genetics don't actually work this way. However, just remember the old adage, and everything makes sense:

"It's magic, I ain't gotta explain shit"

Precisely. The nature of True Human genetics is that it is super-efficient at hijacking other races' lineages, but is in turn rapidly squeezed out by the genes of their own hybrid offspring.

Alycar, the city of my birth, but an alien place to me nonetheless. My journeys over the last three weeks have brought me here. I hitchhiked rides from dubious strangers, have had to fend off the occasional fanatic, and even eased an old woman through her final days. It has been an extraordinary experience thus far, but what lies before me will be even more so.

I will meet my mother for the first time in my life.

My first memories are of a sleepy town on the other side of the continent called Garsla, growing up under the care of an old man by the name of Tor. I grew up in a relatively secluded existence, learning the ways of the farmer and the virtues of a simple life. I was a natural at it, becoming good enough to take over the farm once old man Tor died when I was fourteen years old despite the fact that he had kin waiting to take his place. But something in me felt wrong with the arrangement, despite how comfortable I became there. Something was tugging me to go somewhere else, that there was something horribly missing from my life.

That is when I met a merchant who was stopping in town one night.

>> No.18229975

I usually go to the Rusty Handle, a tavern in the neighboring town of Stoyan, after I'm done my work for the day. Even farmers who love their work need to unwind once in a while to a tankard or two. I walked past this ruddy young man with fiery red hair and this impossibly large rucksack slung over his shoulder. He damn near dropped the thing when he got a look at me, something I wasn't terribly used to. He babbled something about the truth, or a true-something, as he reached into his bag for something. That something ended up being a sketch book of sorts, and the poor man stammered through his request for me to sit and let him draw me. I didn't see any harm in it, but apparently Marna the wench did, slapping the book right out of the man's hands. Apparently, she was worried that if someone from out of town got a glimpse of the picture, that I would be in trouble.

I know that I'm different from everyone, and have long since come to terms with the fact that I was adopted by old man Tor for whatever reason, but I never really knew the reason why. Apparently people with white hair like me are more rare than I thought they were, a fact which gave the merchant a terrible case of diarhhea of the mouth. He kept spouting things out about people like me, these stories of an ancient people of mages and how rare it is for people like me to exist in this world. Something about elementals and a catastrophe and... it was too much to really take in and remember properly. All I remember was the poor merchant sputtering about like an absolute fool.

>> No.18229988

Now, it's common knowledge that there are parallels between one's looks and their potential. Old man Tor himself was brown-haired even into his final days, and I saw him do amazing things with the soil without as much as an ox. He placed his hands at the edge of a plot and churned it with a couple words muttered into the wind. And during every harvest, he was the toast of the town, reaping in the largest load of vegetables and herbs for the feasts. The Konrey ladies over at the other side of town, their hair as golden as the leaves of the forest on an autumn day, powered the windmills there day in and day out. A flick of their hands and some incomprehensible phrases brought the wind right where it was needed. Then there is the blacksmith Janda who isn't only red-haired and can get the most out of his furnace, but also had striking grey eyes and managed to make the most durable wares out of seemingly poor metals.

But apparently there are only legends of people like me, people with white hair, people with red eyes. It's said that there were a people who came long before our time, a people unified in a faraway land of wild magicks. However... something happened. Exactly what happened depends on who tells the story, but whatever it was, it wiped most of them out, and spread out the few survivors to the far corners of the world. No one really knows who our precursors were, or even what they looked like, but their best guess is that people like me, albinos in any sense of the world, are the most direct descendants that exist today. The people of today, by and large, still have a portion of the "Precursor's Gift", but it's limited due to the fact that the few survivors had to breed with other beings wherever they ended up in order to continue their lineage to any degree.

>> No.18229990

>> No.18229998

Though I personally never had any inclination for magick aside from the earthen arts that old man Tor taught me growing up, the stories tell of our potential for a True Magick. Exactly what it is, no one knows, but there are so many stories of the white-haired "Descendants" performing supernatural feats that no one else can imagine. Of course, such feats have waned in these times with the gradual loss of whatever knowledge it was that powered them, but there will always be a part of someone like me, a Descendant, that we can never lose. It's that pull we have towards each other and our kin. Or as the merchant, who finally introduced himself as Russ by this point in the conversation, explained to me as: the "Heritage."

My Heritage was strong, pointing far to the east of Garsla. There was someone important to me there, whether or not I knew it. Much to the chagrin of Marna, the Konrey ladies, Janda, and everyone else around there, it was strong enough to convince me to leave the town. They kept talking about how dangerous it was out there, and the people who hunt down Descendants for this reason and that, but... if I would have to live out here with this feeling tugging at my heartstrings for the rest of my days, I would rather die anyway. At least by leaving Garsla, I'll have a chance to reconcile that feeling and move on with my life, and maybe even keeping them safe should one of those supposed hunters come their way.

Hitler's thoughts were spread before him, his heavy water plants, Mengele's abomination laboratories, the locations of his remaining forces, and something dark... more recent.

"Eva, you killed her."

"A necessary sacrifice," Hitler's voice boomed, "she learned too much, as have you."

With that Hitler renewed his psychic attack, Winston was barely able to block it. Winston realized he would not have the energy for a telekinetic assault, he felt Hitler's presence adopt a triumphant aura. But... there! The pistol had a single bullet left. He and Hitler lunged for motor control at the same instant...

And so I left with Russ the next day towards the city of Alycar, never to look back. Along the way I would endure many trials and learn more and more about myself. Eventually I would learn than I am indeed a wanted man ever since my birth in the city. Alycar is apparently run by people who want to stamp out the practice of magick in favor of a mundane agenda, declaring that magick is preventing humanity from growing into its next phase, about how magick wiped out the Precursors. And woe be to a Descendant in the city's walls. Record has it that neither of my parents were an obvious Descendant themselves, but the fact that they bore one in myself and that I was smuggled out of the city ended up with my father's execution and my mother's imprisonment.

I don't know how the people of Alycar can live without magick, and I don't care how they achieve it, but they have no right to imprison someone because they just happened to give birth to someone with white hair and red eyes. I'm going to get her out of there or die trying!

I've been meaning to address this.

We've established that the True Humans are...inhumanly efficient at converting a world populated by other intelligent life to one dominated by their offspring. Should they encounter one inhabited by hostile life, whether intelligent or not, they would be capable of rapidly asserting dominance using their innate magical abilities. The very epitome of a precursor race, immensely powerful but inevitably vanishing to leave behind their legacy for a later civilization.

So, where the heck did they come from in the first place?

Sit back and listen carefully, because I am about to BLOW YOUR MINDS.

Hypothesis: True Humans are aliens. At least, in the sense that they did not originally inhabit Earth.

To be more accurate, they are not so much aliens as a biologically engineered tool created by an earlier race.

Consider the characteristics of the True Humans listed above. They are pretty much tailored for one purpose alone: colonize a planet, secure dominance, and create a human race that eventually replaces them.

What if humans didn't originate on this planet, as we thought?

What if somewhere out there in the universe, long ago, far back before anyone can imagine, there was another, far more advanced, human race?

What if this race, for whatever reason, deemed it necessary to colonize other worlds in the universe? Spurred to do so by some imminent apocalyptic event, perhaps? Or maybe they were just a dying race, old and decrepit from having existed far beyond their time?

But in the nigh-infinite cosmos, there are precious few worlds capable of supporting life. And fully terraforming a lifeless planet was still far beyond the reach of the original humans, even after they had pioneered the art of space travel, though still limited by the speed of light.

So, what did they do?

>> No.18230215

They created the race we know as the True Humans. A race created for the sole purpose of existing and sustaining itself inside shells that traveled the depths of space for incomprehensibly huge amounts of time, until it discovered habitable planets for the now lost human race.

Countless numbers of vessels, each containing a self-sustaining population of True Humans, were sent off in all directions, that they might be capable of wandering the void in search of a new home for the human race, long after its original home planet had been purged of life.

And when they found such planets, there the True Humans' purpose would be complete at last. The revival and rebirth of the original human race.

A fresh start, for a race long past its time, so that it might once again look at the stars with innocent eyes.

And now, we will once again fulfill that dream.

>> No.18230250

Well, I was thinking a HF world on the cusp to modernity with the advent of machines and a subsection of people willing to give up their innate magickal powers to pursue what they see as the next level of human progress. You can probably take that even further and make a setting based on if the people managed to make that transition for the most part, with magick-users as driven underground, as you suggest.

"The true story of the Forefather has been passed down from generation to generation, traced all the way back to a merchant by the name of Russ the Red-haired. Though he was a salesman of fraudulent potions and tonics by trade, Russ was honest and truthful of his records of the Forefather. He spoke of the man's innocence in a farming town despite coming from this hellish city. He told of the man's quest to save his mother from an unjust imprisonment in a city that only did so upon the discovery of his birth. There were exploits not only of his magickal might, but also his endearing humanity, both of which are lost to most of this age.

"Instead of working with nature to live in harmony, we do our best to destroy it for brief conveniences. Rather than to give a fallen brother or sister a hand up, we go out of our way to leave him or her fallen on the ground. The people of this age have so many wondrous machines and vehicles and computers, and the opportunity to do so much good with them, but instead all we do is to use it to hurt other people, people who don't act or think like us. Perhaps it stems from the fear that the original Alycans had of their magickal counterparts, but it is bringing the world to utter ruin. And like their attempts to stamp out magick from this world, this too shall pass and they too will fail.

John sat on the boardwalk looking out at the sea shielding his eyes from the sun. He silently cursed the day for being so nice after the night his girlfriend of two years had dumped him. It was on this very pier that he'd met her and he had come to mope. There had been a carnival there then, and they had locked eyes from across the merry go round. She started a conversation by complimenting his dark grey eyes.
John looked up puzzled as a shadow passed over the sun to find the sky had become overcast. He remembered the official weather report had predicted with certainty the skies would be clear this week, but began smiling as the first drops of rain splashed his face. At least the weather was with him today.

"Yes my child, magick still exists here, though there aren't many who know of its existence, fewer who are capable of communing with it, and even fewer still who are willing to do so. I can tell by your eyes that not only do you possess the Gift, but that you are of a strong heart and are willing to bring happiness to a world choked by injustice and paranoia. And your hair, it's a subtle brown, but shows that you are also grounded in your beliefs, that you are responsible in how you use your abilities. You would make for a fine Daughter... you come of your own free will, with virtue deep in your being. If you are willing, I will teach you the tools in which you can bring that virtue to the city."

Kim had been on the run for most of her life, at first from foster homes and now from the police. She had always stolen what she needed to get by and her few run ins with the law had put her on quite a few lists. This time she had been spotted pickpocketing in the subway station and made a break for it. Out of the station she had chosen the darkest alley she could find and ducked down it only to find a dead end. She usually had luck with the dark, her jet black hair only slightly darker than her eyes making it easier to blend in with the night. This time however, she was literally up against a wall as the cops entered the alleyway. She huddled in the darkest corner of the alley and began to cry as she willed herself to blend in, knowing she was caught. She tumbled as the wall she was leaning against was suddenly insubstantial. The cops reached the back of the alley and cursed at each other for losing her, desperately searching the alley as they rushed back towards the street. Kim witnessed all this from some vantage point seemingly inside the wall, and after the cops had left, tentatively crawled out of the shadows and into the alleyway. She dried her eyes as she shakenly walked back into the street.

And they all meet in a tav-... err... a bar?

Just kidding anon. Keep up the good work!

>> No.18231503

I'm only really tying eye color and forest/storm/shadow manipulation. I'm not really trying to flesh anything out.

>> No.18231536

Okay. Still, shadow manipulation at least implies pale skin, you mentioned her hair was jet black, and you said her hair was only slightly darker than her eyes. That's where I was drawing those conclusions.

>> No.18231580

Okay, so this is a really long thread that starts out bad but at which point does it become good? Could someone help a brother out, I don't want to wade through the trolling.

>> No.18231597

It gets good 25-50 posts in. The vast majority of it is great. Just read it all.

>> No.18231619

Sure thing lazyAnon, though you really should read it up. Essentially it starts with an article talking about peculiar features about redheads. Then it turns into hair and eye color determine magical proclivities. Then there's writefagging. And somewhere in here, there's a consensus about what colors do what, but not really a consensus after all.

Read the thread for more.

It was a consensus except for one dude.

That means it's not really a consensus at all.

I looked over at Sandra sprawled in the grass next to me, her long blonde hair splayed out behind her, radiant as always. Even in the dimmest light I swear her hair shines, not like my brown mop which could only be described as dull. There's not many blondes in the world now, hundreds of years of mixing genes has left most people different shades of brown. Brown hair, brown eyes, brown skin, but every so often you get a Sandra, a remnant of the past. I still don't know why a one in a million like Sandra would choose someone like me, a million in one, but we've been together for as long as I can remember.

Clouds began to roll in and darken the sky. We laid there for a while longer, willing the clouds to go away, but as the first drops began to fall we knew we'd have to leave the park. Sandra jumped up and pulled me to my feet, she wouldn't let the rain dampen her mood for long. We made our way back to the park subway and began to plan what we could do when we got back to our apartment.

>> No.18232491

We neared the subway and a number of things happened almost simultaneously. We saw a raven haired girl stumble out of an alley way just before us and into the street. I saw an oncoming car slam on its brakes, but I knew it would be too late. I leaped forward and managed to shove the girl out of the way as the car slid into me. The next few moments were a blur, I saw the raven haired girl crying in a heap on the sidewalk, a lady with the greenest eyes I've ever seen was rushing over from her car, and above me, Sandra was cradling my head weeping. I looked down for a second to see lots of red, but immediately looked back to Sandra.
"It'll be okay," I lied, already feeling blackness at the edges of my vision. The blackness slowly crept to the middle blotting out everything but Sandra's face, when suddenly everything brightened. Sandra was a light, banishing the dark, pulling me towards consciousness. I felt my legs begin to move and we knew there had been a miracle. Sandra had preformed a miracle.

And the party comes together...

>> No.18232682

No, I think it was the main character healing himself, since he had brown eyes. He was just attributing it to Sandra because he idolized her.

>> No.18232705

Writefag here, it was Sandra healing. I was trying one from a different perspective. The narrator in that one is a normalfag.

I know this thread is about to hit auto-sage, but I wanna continue all this juicy development... so we got three possible ways to take this - standard high fantasy, modern witch hunts, and modern (re)discovery of powers. I like where all this is going.

I'm tempted to build upon >>18230327, >>18230781, >>18231368, and >>18232488, but I'm afraid I may bring too much of the oppressive perspective to it. So Mr. Writefag, please provide us with more of your stuff!

>> No.18233185

I'm the Occult Underground guy. I in no way meant 'witch hunts,' the rediscovery thing is very close to what I intended. I meant Occult Underground in a not-actively-advertising Occult Counterculture kind of way. The sort of thing you tend to see with real life postmodern magic cabals and the Occult Underground in Unknown Armies.

>> No.18233218

I wasn't saying that you meant it. It's what I wrote earlier, that's what I'm talking about. I'm gonna field a guess here and say that this idea will likely be used in a variety of story types. Maybe you can do a little write-up of your scenario if you want.

>> No.18233999

>black eyes is essentially NO eye color.
So focus: the void? nothingness? entropy?

>> No.18234113

No, it's not no eye colour. It's a literal lack of irises. They still have the genes encoding for specific colours, just no irises to express it. It's like if a person has no skin - it doesn't mean that they don't have a sun/moon attunement, it means they have no fucking skin.

>> No.18234370

Okay, point taken.

But it's still the /lack/ of something, and when that something is what defines a person's attunement to a certain domain, the absence of that something might suggest an attunement to absence itself.

Actually, they would be rather vulnerable to it. The element associated with dark skin is Sun/Light.
