Also, I'm somewhat new to 40k, and I'm wondering if any of the Primarchs are still alive (non traitor legion)

>> No.17808876

no, it will cover this board until people bitch enough to have a new board made just for it. and then there will still be 40K generals that will be filled with shit roleplaying of people that all claim to be named characters, leading to there being 3 God Emperor tripfags.

and then there's the porn, so much porn

that's how it worked with /vp/ at least

There's something to be said for this.

Another thing to be wary of with the Vindicator is the short range and lack of maneuverability. Short range puts it in or near melta range at most times. Lack of maneuverability means it isn't always threatening. You really will need to take at least two of the things, and expect one to get slagged without shooting if your opponent has multiple melta options.

I was looking for wargear specifically. Like how worth it is the dozer blade? Also, what else should I consider: HK Missile? Extra Armour? Storm Bolter?

>> No.17809206

Does that conversation take place before or after the rebuking of the Word Bearers? After all, the Ultramarines did sanction them by destroying Monarchia.

That said, "the Rout" implies that it's a Space Worf-specific thing, and since they're the executioner of other Legions it's almost certain that they were the ones who took out one of the Missing Primarch legions. However, it's not certain at all that Russ actually killed one of the Missing Primarchs, since all that was said was that the event was a tragedy and no one must speak of it.

I don't play any tabletop games, so I can't give you any advice on painting, but from a sheer aesthetics standpoint I do think you've done a pretty clean job.

I personally don't like the color scheme too much (bright red on bright blue is too much of a clash, methinks, and red on on Tzeentch follower looks strange) and the gold might be a bit too bright for a CSM (who should have rusty, ancient armor). You can probably improve it a bit by going over it with a really faint wash of grey or something to make everything darker and add more shading to the flatter parts of the armor, but as I said, I know nothing about painting.

It's still the dominant force in the galaxy, but it's crumbling. Faults are appearing in the Golden Throne, Hive Fleet Leviathan is on a collision course with Terra, the 13th Black Crusade is currently ongoing and pressing Cadia hard. The Necrons are also starting to rise in force, with one Overlord having carved out a fairly large empire for himself in a short space of time. The Imperium's winning battles but losing the overall war.

As for the C'tan, they got some substantial retcons in the new Necron codex. They're still a part of the fluff, but after killing off the Old Ones, the Necrons turned on the C'tan and eventually managed to break them down into small shards, enslave, and imprison them. Though the civil war it took to do that left the Necron empire badly damaged and they were forced to go into hibernation to stop the Eldar destroying them.

Crypteks, Lychguard, Triarch Praetorians, Triarch Stalkers, Tomb Blades, C'tan Shards, Deathmarks, Catacomb Command Barges, Annihilation Barges, Night Scythes, Doom Scythes, Ghost Arks, Doomsday Arks, and a plethora of special characters. I may have missed some, but those are the ones that spring to mind.

Pariahs were removed, along with the Nightbringer and the Deceiver. I've not played against the Newcrons much, but they do seem to play reasonably similarly to their older codex - they're just better at it and have a plethora of new toys and options. Generally you'll see a solid core of Infantry backed up by heavy vehicles grinding down the center, while faster stuff harasses the flanks and knocks out key units.

Yea, looks like the Tau players will have to wait a fair bit longer for their new book.

>So little has changed.

Pretty much. They fiddle around with the little details via retcons and the like, and fill in new historical events, but I would be *really* surprised if the fluff ever advanced in a meaningful way.

Make it actually seem to be the tactical book written by the galaxy's greatest general, is all I ask. There's enough Weird Shit it can't cover because it's new - hells, Tyranids alone must have thrown the Ultramarines for a loop the first time they saw them - but I just want a bit better PR.

>where do you get your rumors from?

I just keep a close eye on Warseer and a few other forums and repost any pertinent information if people are wondering about releases. I've got no insider information or anything of the sort, as cool as that'd be. As for when the Tau are going to come out, the only real information is "not soon." As I said, if the current batch of rumours are to be believed, there's a wave of Necron models, a wave of Tyranid models, *probably* the Chaos Marines codex (though that's my own speculation). We're also expecting 6th edition to hit this year. If Dark Angels are in the starter set I'd imagine they'd get a book around the same time to make sure they're up to date. Then apparently Eldar are further along than Tau are - though that could easily change in development.

Either way, I'm afraid you're probably going to be waiting for quite a while.

Really? Why?

This was, I should note, nothing more than an interview. His personal headcanon, no more actually canon than TIDF's view of the Tau or my personal view of the Necrons. Despite this, /tg/ took it and ran with it because they love to hate the popular.

>the other is bummed about the slow pace.

Slow pace? What slow pace? There is no pace at all.

One thing you and some others on /tg/ misunderstand is that the setting's timeline was always at "almost the end". There is no story. There has never been any story. The "progress" in the timeline has always been retroactive; the Necrons got filled in, the Tau got filled in, the histories and battles of the Space Marines were filled in, the various Black Crusades were filled in and explained, and hundreds of details were added, removed, contradicted, rewritten, and so on. All in the past, not in the future.

This is what is meant by "Warhammer 40000 is a setting, not a story". They have not ever intended to finish it and they never will, because the purpose of all those hundreds of pieces of fluff are there to facilitate YOUR story that YOU tell, and do so through the games you play. It is there to give a backdrop for the battles, a context for the rivalries, and a reference point for comparison. That's why they're so okay with casual retcons, they don't have to worry about breaking continuity because there never was any.

tl;dr: those that complain about how GW has "stopped the progress" don't realise that there has never been any progress, only revision.

Actually, this is mentioned in the latest White Dwarf. Originally, the Horus Heresy was a two-line note crammed somewhere in...Rogue Trader, I think. About how the Emperor threw the traitor Horus into the Eye of Terror, and a third of mankind's armies went with him. It was thrown in just to add a sense of grandeur and history to 40k's fiction.

When the boxed game Adeptus Titanicus was released, GW needed a reason to explain why two sets of essentially identical models were fighting - they couldn't afford to cast up two different sets of faction-specific models. So the writers skimmed through the old books and came across this little two line note and bam - there we go. A civil war within the Imperium, a perfect reason for two armies which look like they should be on the same side to fight. They spun it off into a whole mythology that's grown and developed until were it is today.

Because they're one of the writers has it as a favourite army. They remain strong because nobody purges them, nobody purges them because they remain strong...the whole thing could be solved by a properly applied exterminatus, and yet here we are.

Hells, it's not like they haven't pissed off the inquisition enough.

>> No.17810695

>They are one of the Strongest Chapters.

The combination of Fenris' sheer inhospitality, and the defenses of the Fang, also means that it's very hard to actually attack the Wolves on their home turf. Anyone who wanted to try and wipe the Space Wolves out has to deal with that - people have tried, and to date, they've all failed.

So do Sororitas get their tags sewn shut on becoming one?

>> No.17810699

Probably because the Codex Astartes has never been actually cared about by the Imperium as a whole. They aren't the only ones who don't give a rat's ass about the Codex; the Black Templars and Salamanders come to mind.

Really, it all comes down to this: the few chapters that are non-codex give more of a damn about the actual Imperium and do more stuff for it than the Codex-thumpers. Nobody is going to purge the Space Wolves because the Imperium fucking loves the Space Wolves. Even some more heretical things that they do (such as casually killing Ecclesiarchy clerics that came to their homeworld) are overlooked because the Wolves are worth so much for the Imperium.

Probably. Orks have attacked most places at least once. I'm specifically thinking of the time the Thousand Sons attacked the Fang, and the Sisters of Battle tried once as well, though IIRC they didn't even make planetfall before their fleet was engaged and forced to withdraw. There's also the implication that the huge Kraken that live in Fenris' oceans might be of Tyranid descent, which suggests the Tyranids had a go but were driven off, and the few survivors went native.

Depends on what you mean by tainted. A bolter that's been cosmetically modified with Chaos insignia? Scrape the crap off, reconsecrate it, and you're done. it's going to be a lengthy process of ritual purification, but it's possible and not all that difficult. The problem arises when you're dealing with technology that might have mutated, or worse, been used as a vessel for some form of daemonic spirit. In that case, they're probably more likely just to dispose of the foul thing.

If you want to tripfag because you're a loser with no social life who needs to find a social circle on the internet, then fine, enjoy your additional attention.
