[ERROR] No.17713236 [Reply] [Original] [4plebs] [archived.moe]

As is widely known, the setting of Warhammer 40,000 is excessively bleak. Going beyond mere harsh reality into a universe twisted by faith, chaos and endless war. This is not to object to this idea, but as to a reaction to this.

This fact attracts or creates a certain type of fan for Warhammer 40,000. One that goes beyond embracing the idea that this universe is a very shitty place, but revels in all its bleakness. Such an individual reacts with Rage and Disgust at the idea that any spark of happiness could exist in it. The sugestion that somewhere, some citizen of the Imperium could enjoy a simple bacon sandwich and not be seduced into serving Slaanesh. Even when the creators themselves point out that if they were so brutal and destructive, they would never get anywere. Who at the very mention of the Tau or some fan idea like the Reasonable Marines go into convulsions of pure unadulterated butthurt.

>Who at the very mention of the Tau or some fan idea like the Reasonable Marines go into convulsions of pure unadulterated butthurt.
that's because the reasonable marines are poorly written wank and Tau threads get trolled with fetish crap or "we're the good guys" posts.

Both are perpetuated by people who don't actually read the lore and make blanket (incorrect) assumptions about stuff, while getting all butt-flustered if you disagree with them. "Reasonable" marines already exist in the canon, the Tau are idealistic in their goal to unify the galaxy but not an altruistic force of good.

wanting objectivity when discussing a lore that's famously fractured is not a bad thing.

The Raptors, mostly.

Addressing thread: The intro to the 40k rulebook-- to every 40k rulebook ever, and the white dwarf preview article before the first-- says the Imperium is 'the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable'. Deal w/. Technology is stagnant, the empire is collapsing. There are heroes; they are mortal. The universe is a big place, you won't be missed, etc.

Internally, yes, the 40k universe is canonically the shittiest of all places ever. We, externally, are free to laugh at it and put jokes into it.
