Index Xenos, WD 302

>Humans that encounter Eldar often find themselves unaccountably beguiled by them, for their beauty and allure is utterly beyond compare, and there is evidence that both sexes of Eldar exude the same alien attraction upon humans, male and female.

That's right, Eldar males are so pretty that humans would go gay for them. And then there's every codex ever saying Eldar look similar to humans. Just because Games Workshop cannot sculpt good-looking minis does not mean they write Eldar unattractive in fluff.

Actually no. It's described pretty well in the Horus Heresy books. Basically because of mankind's expansion and unification during the Dark Age of Technology and then the total societal collapse during the Age of Strife, ethnicities were intermixed to the degree where none of the ones we have today are recognizable anymore. Pretty much every surviving human was a "halfbreed" or rather "massive amounts off different-breed". Some characters claim heritage from places like America or China or whatever, but there's very few people who you could identify as noticeable "ethnic looking" by our current standard.

Why wouldn't there be? Mankind has lived among the stars for more than 10,000 years. It didn't take that long for our swarthy, olive skinned, ancestors to mutate into White Europeans. Evolution produces diversity, not homogeneity, so different human populations on different planets would definitely result in the creation of distinct races, probably several to a planet going by what we have on earth.

Assuming globalists don't get their way we could quite easily maintain separate races on earth (I assume you're talking about globalism turning us into a coffee coloured mass-man with no roots or culture when you suggest there will be no distinct races), and even if we don't, only Europeans are selling their children's futures to buy a little temporary convenience. The Chinese and Indians aren't allowing anything like the invasion that's happening in Europe at the moment.

Nah, but I'll agree with you. It's because they outsource alot (or all) of their art to individuals. I don't think they've got any in-house artists for the 40k RPGs, just artists who frequently get work from them. They don't have the special sort of wretched, pale-skinned trolls that crank out grimdark art at their beck and call.

On the one hand cleaner more "human" art can be good for an RPG since you need to relate to your character a bit more than you'd need to in a novel. On the other hand it does slightly lack some of the 40kness.

>>16621980
It is. That probably has something else to do with it. It may also be why their writing can, on occasion, be a bit too simple and optimistic for 40k. Not always, thankfully. Some of the writers they hire on are good people. That one guy Reason is one of them and, for the Book of Judgement, they got Matthew Farrer himself (aka the Enforcer guy).

I do, nothing in my post suggested otherwise.
In fact I didn't mention culture at all, I was speaking about biological races.
Matter of fact I have more than a few problems with our existing culture and would like to see a lot of changes to it, whilst preserving our race.

You don't seem to understand what this word means either.

Accepting one's death and allowing it to happen is cowardice. Fighting to prevent it is not, especially in the face of constant persecution from the cultural-marxist brainwashed hordes of which you appear to be a member.

If you insist on destroying yourself, then go ahead, but please don't take me and my people down with you, we have a right to exist, and a right to the homelands we need in order to exist, same as everyone else. Take your self destructive impulses with you to the grave.

What I mean is that it's very easy for humanity as a whole, within the 40k setting, to feel inhuman. Which is good and proper, given how the culture of the Imperium is and what values it teaches. Alot of their art reflects this as well; heavily augmented, monstrously ugly people. Very cool, but it can feel a bit inaccessible. Slightly de-grimdarked character art can help people feel like they could play a character in the setting because they're not entirely alien.

After which point they become the monstrous people the setting almost demands them to be, both in terms of appearance as they're mauled and maimed and in terms of character as they grapple with the nature of the setting itself.

GW does paintings (well, they let Adrian Smith do digital, but he's trustworth enough for that). FFG uses digital art, except when borrowing GW art. Digital art tends to look smoother, in both shapes and colors, because you have the undo key and color picker tool respectively. Painting tends to look better, though, because (usually) more thought has to go into it, and it has that feel of authenticity.

Black Industries was the RPG division of Black Library. It got shut down because GW realised that RPGs don't make as much money as novels. Thankfully FFG picked up the license so 40k RPG didn't die off. Nor did WFRP for that matter, though it was transformed into something a little different.

As long as they don't give us another glorified boardgame (I can't really see WHFRP as anything more or less), I'll be quite happy.
One huge complaint I have, however, is the way they nerfed Full-Auto. Not that they nerfed it, just the way. A penalty? Give a smaller bonus and/or fewer hits per success. There's always been Semi-Auto burst. Nobody ever used it because it was inferior in every way to Full Auto except for ammo expenditure.

All three basic attack types have a use now. Single shot is the most accurate but only has one shot. Full Auto is far less accurate but can mulch someone if you roll well and rack up loads of hits. Semi Auto is the middle ground; moderately accurate, only a half action now, but has a harder time getting extra hits than Full Auto due to a lesser weight of fire.

Before this Full Auto > all. The only downside was ammo expenditure, but that only mattered for stuff like autoguns (which rattled off 1/3 of their magazines in one Full Auto attack).

That's not what I mean: Semi-Automatic means you fire one bullet per pull of the trigger, but the next one's loaded automatically. i.e. most guns in movies that aren't Westerns.
Semi-Automatic Burst means either "you pull the trigger a few times during the round", and that isn't a Burst, or it means "pull trigger for a moment, fire 3-4 bullets", and that isn't Semi-Automatic.

>The nerf is hard, though. Maybe too hard.

Nonsense. I've implemented the change into my games now and full auto still gets used. It's no longer the be all and end all of combat, but it's still very useful for butchering someone if the odds are stacked in the shooter's favour. Hordes, large targets in the open, short ranges, etc. It's what you use when you've got a good chance of hitting and want to maximise the pain you can cause. For when landing a hit is less certain you switch to more accurate attacks.

This. Full-auto would wreck things when used by even a moderate BS character with any kind of additional bonuses. Besides that, those who care about "realism" will note that this is, in fact, more realistic. In my case, I only care about the balance.

Remember that there are other bonuses you can rack up to counter the -10. Being in half range makes it a Challenging (+0) test from the +10. Then I believe you can get things like Motion Predictors (or equivalent), move into point blank if you're lucky, take an Aim action beforehand, etc.

Most likely? +20, additional hit per 2 DoS, if anything.
Thing is, think about it: aim rifle, fire on full auto. At least your first bullet was as well aimed as single-fire, and, say you were off by just a bit, the next shot might be better aimed than the first. That's +10 at least, the way I see it.

The autogun only becomes lethal when enemies have no armour or when it's loaded with some variety of the ungodly amounts of special ammo available. Well, used to. Now spray and pray for BS mooks is unlikely to hit anything.

Of course, full auto still allows you to perform Suppressing Fire in its most effective form. WP -20 tests for all those under fire or lose a 1/2 action, get forced to move to cover and suffer -20 BS until they work up the nerve again.

Acolytes are such low level that they're not worth equipping. Dark Heresy was also intended to be more of a "covert" game, where they were doing their normal jobs in between missions. I think people just ended up playing it differently and the game was updated to suit the dominant playstyle.

The game was obviously originally meant to be WFRP in space, for better or worse, and they've since made it more heroic. I miss the days when it was just lowly tech adepts and green guardsmen getting TPKd by a single bloodletter though.

I wouldn't swap them, if you mean giving Semi-Auto +20, additional hit per 1 DoS.
That somehow doesn't make sense to me. As wasteful as Full-Auto may be, during that first fraction of a second it's a Burst in all regards - math should represent that. What I did instead was make Burst a half action, because, shit, 5 seconds to pull it off?

And I'm out. Emperor Protects.

DH can still be that. The way I see it is that ranks 1-3 are the proving grounds. If you survive that then your Inquisitor will give you a flak vest, a lasgun and some gelt to do your job. Or not, if they're one of the types to let their acolytes struggle in every way and grow stronger for it.

>>16622418
The way I see it is this: single shot means you spend almost all your time aiming but only get one shot. Full auto means you spend virtually no time aiming and just focus on filling the air with as much lead as possible. More aiming = better BS modifier. More bullets = more chance of multiple hits.

You're supposed to get a paycheck for every 400xp over start, so you should be able to afford a lot more than that by rank 3 unless you're Scum. But I've always just gone with the "salvage" route - you keep what you kill. There's also the fact that you can assign hits to people in a radius of whoever you're shooting at. Getting these massive hit totals made no sense when it wasn't all vs one target. If not for the sake of realism, then for balance.

I like to see my players grow, but the payment system does not really work out. Priests and nobles are so stonking rich it beats the point of being sent out on a trial.
There should be a more distinct system on how much money they get to make it less arbitrary GM ruling.

>>16622452
But this only happens for extremely good shots or for big targets from close distance.
For a normal char with 35 BS, 3 hits on a distance of 50m. is the maximum a critical success can amount to.
