The Ultramarines won my respect with the Zeist campaign. The Tau don't get what's coming to them nearly enough-that was a beautiful chapter in Imperial history.

First Cato Sicarius raped them. Then other chapters heard there was a rape party going on, and then all rushed on in, and then even the Imperial Guard got to plunder a few colons while they were there.

And then, as those bruised, beaten, bleeding little blue faggots limped back to their space, the Marines stopped them, ripped T'ros off of the Ethereal's finger, informed him that he should probably get himself checked for HIV, and then sauntered off with all of their retaken worlds.

>> No.16537025

I consider Grey Knights to be slightly inferior to pond scum.
And more accurately I think of them as being slightly separate from normal marines, like Chaos marines, their rules just seem to different to be included in the same category.

Ultramarines are kind of like Superman - they're one of the best and one of the standards everyone else has to measure up to. But if you don't have a good writer to handle that they just come off as some sort of better-than-you douchebags that it's really easy to hate.

And everything is better than listening to 14 wannabe anarchist vikings about how awesome their army is and how they don't have to listen to their parents.

>> No.16537506

But can't all we codex adherent chapters get along equally, without any first found chapter overshadowing the others?

Or maybe just a page or two of minor rule tweaks for other first found chapters? Like maybe cheaper vindicators and universal stubborn for Fists without needing a damn character?

Or at the very least can we get a little less insulting than
"Chapters in the second category are disciples who owe their genetic inheritance to another Primarch, but follow the Codex Astartes as keenly as their divergent heritage allows. While primarily composed of successor Chapters, this group also includes several Chapters of the First Founding - notably the Imperial Fists, White Scars and Raven Guard. These Chapters can never be Ultramarines, for their gene-seed is not that of Roboute Guilliman. Nevertheless, they will ever aspire to the standards and teachings of the great Primarch."

I mean fuck, we have to share a codex with these shit.

What? Are you 14 or some shit? none of these races are very interesting. The Tau are idiots, they haven't figured out that this setting hates them (and everyone else) and is trying to fucking murder them.

The Eldar have been slapped in the dick so hard their testicles/ovaries have popped out of their eye sockets, even when they were relatively normal-shaped, they were still stupidly overconfident.

The humans are nameless, faceless, dorks who are uninteresting because of it, sure you can project onto them, only you can't do that either, because every situation comes down to "would you survive a fight with a giant robot/insect/monster", and the answer is always "No and go fuck yourself you unreasonable prick."

The Tyranids are literally the Xenos from the Alien Franchise.

The Orks are a bunch of rugby hooligans with magic powers to make them pertinant.

The Necrons are space skeletons.

Chaos is literally nothing but a huge army of heavily armed/armored teenagers.

What really gets me is that, despite how evil the setting is, no one has the sheer level of raw bastard that the modern world has. The Tau probably (and ironically) come the closest with their use of drones, though they seriously need to arm the little bastards better. The Eldar would be fine, if their reproductive organs weren't hanging out of their faces. 1 of our drones comes with enough firepower to knock down an entire platoon of tanks and still be able to kill some planes and infantry, 1 Tau drone has enough firepower to mildly annoy a few people.

I can understand the hate but people tend to forget that the Ultras & the IF are actually bros and have been bros since the great crusade. at Guillimans shrine on Macragge, Dorn is one of the 4 statues next to Guilliman in stasis.

personally i think the Ultras have more depth than what you see at face value. like how Guilliman's origin story is actually a microcosm for the horus heresy. and like how Ultramar is not actually part of the imperium but a separate empire considered allied with the imperium (don't know if that got retconed or not)

i guess i always liked em cause they're one of the few chapters who are actually doing good. or as close to good as things can get in 40k.

> I didn't include BTs or DAs because their codices are just flat-out inferior to the standard SM one in terms of rules.

What? BT are the only codex left that can do 5 man las/plas squads. Even without that, they're better than vanilla and can still contend with BA. But yes, they're inferior to the 15 point package of horse-shit that is a grey hunter.

Have you looked at their fucking terminators? 2 per 5 men ACs/CMLs for tacticals, and the ability to take furious charge on assaults?

Typhoon speeders? POTMS Vindicators? 265 point land raider crusaders that include the multimelta and extra armor upgrades for free? Have you actually read their codex?

What BT lacks is psychic defense. That's about it.

DA on the other hand...well...I can't comment there, because I haven't personally ran into anything other than legions of 5 man scoring stormshield + CML squads, backed up by typhoon speeders.

What "Superior" rules are you referring to with the vanilla codex, exactly? Or are you actually referencing the Vanilla +1 and +2 codices that came after it?

This was supposed to be codex: ultramarines, but Jervis decided there wasn't enough money to make yet one more book, so Ward was ordered to crowbar more stuff, thus making it the new codex: space marines.

It is written from the ultrasmurf's point of view, and they are awesome, the best of the best, lose never, and rar all over the galaxy, just like it is for all the other armybooks, ever. Because it's from their point of view.

You should be glad Ward managed to cram as much stuff in there as he did. If he hadn't, your iron hands, silverskulls, white scars, mentors, and other chapters not widely liked by the studio would be like sisters of battle right now.

There is a clear divide between the Ultima Segmentum and the rest of the Imperium.
You are grasping for reasons to sling mud at the Ultras. Even then, it was in Horus' best interests to make sure the Ultras were no where nearby as they had canonically had a legion the size of any 3 put together, and with several loyal legions nearly wiped out, the Ultras were the only one that could prove a match with sheer numbers to turn the tide.
At least he didn't pull a Johnson.

>The Eldar arrived at Orar's Sepulchre to find it held against them, and they struck hard at the main gate. Aspect Warriors and Guardians darted forward as Falcon grav-tanks and artillery engines battered the defenders, yet the Eldar could not bring their heaviest weaponry to bear, for to do so would be to risk destroying the Galaxian Sceptre within. The Ultramarines sheltered from the Eldar firestorm in their crudely prepared defences, holding position behind weathered marble until the first assault wave was on the uppermost steps. On Calgar's command, the Ultramarines emerged from cover. Heedless of the shuriken and plasma that screamed all around them, the defenders scoured the invaders from their sight with bolter, missile and grenade. Held at bay at the main gates, the Eldar attack wave now broke apart and sought gaps in Calgar's defences, only to find their own flanks assailed by roving bands of Ultramarines.

>Calgar had fought the Eldar many times, and knew that no fixed defence could long endure against their fluid and precise strikes. Accordingly, Calgar's battle plan had been to divide his Chapter. The main taskforce, under his direct command and comprising five full companies of Ultramarines, garrisoned Orar's Sepulchre and defended the Galaxian Sceptre therein. The remainder of the Chapter was further subdivided into a dozen mobile strikeforces consisting of between fifty and one hundred Space Marines who had lain concealed in the surrounding valley and now engaged the Eldar in hit-and-run attacks. Moment-to-moment command of each strikeforce lay with the captain or sergeant at its head, but it was Calgar, and Calgar alone, who directed the overall strategy. Yet he never once yielded his position at the gates to better command the wider battle.

>> No.16538336

>A lesser man would have been unable to direct such spiralling chaos, but Calgar's will prevailed in every corner of the battle. A word here, and a strikeforce manoeuvred clear of an incoming Eldar assault wave. A command there, and Ultramarines on the far side of the battlefield intercepted and crushed an isolated Eldar force.Never once did the strain show upon Calgar's face, not for a moment did he let up from his personal battle at the sepulchre's gate.

>The battle for the sepulchre lasted all day and into the night. Shells and energy blasts gouged stone walls and statuary, sending shards tearing through Space Marine and Eldar alike and great gouts of acrid mist roiling through the sepulchre. Through it all the Ultramarines stood firm, stalking through the smoke-clogged rubble like vengeful nightmares. The Eldar mustered every arcane science at their command, yet their impossible technology counted for little in the face of the Ultramarines' determination. Shuriken and plasmabolt, fusion gun and wraithsword - these things could and did slay the Ultramarines but, whilst Calgar lived, not one of his Battle-Brothers contemplated defeat. Bound by ties of brotherhood and exhorted to greatness, the defenders fought on amongst shattered statues and broken walls, knowing that to do any less was to dishonour the noble history of the Ultramarines

The cuntfaces couldn't possibly fill the spess elf's shoes. The Eldar have been GW's status quo plot device ever since the Eldar stopped being stupidly overpowered in everything they were were in. Tau are a tiny blip, where as craftworlds have much more influence. The Tau barely managed to stop a splinter fleet, Maugan Ra did that ALONE. Eldrad saved Cadia ALONE.

The Eldar becoming the punching bag of all of 40k is simply lazy, bad writing. They used to be downright scary on TT and had strong fluff to back it up. Now when a chapter master gets a new mini and the writers need something awfully powerful for the spess maren to kill, they still bitterly remember the day when a fortuned Avatar stomped their entire army. So get an Avatar vs *insert guy who needs to look badass* battle and poof, you've got something that makes 12yo kids moist in a wrong way.

Eldar aren't just jobbing it to Space Marines, so there goes that theory.

Even before Matt Wared started writing 40k, a Keeper of Secrets infiltrated and destroyed a Craftworld and possessed its Avatar.

Doom of Malan'tai lacks a model, and still has destroyed a Craftworld. The Murderval of Chaos would have destroyed an Eldar army with THREE avatars if Dark Eldar hadn't saved them.

So Eldar aren't being used as jobbers for marines, they are genuinely that weak in comparison to more potent armies of Warhammer 40k.
