Female Deity Worship is only good for receiving endless sexual pleasure from a mother-like figure in the skies. So that's good too, but as far as I know there don't exist such religions that only focus on one female deity. Or do they?

well I was gonna go to bed...but my test tommorow can go skrew itself

well *rolls up sleeves* see the problem with protestantism is that they:
1 detract from the unity of Christians everywhere
2 hold beliefs contrary to that of catholic faiths(orthodox Catholicism although not in communion holds almost identical beliefs without "editing")
3 protestants tend to edit out the bad and only keep the good(martin Luther took out sections of the bible he didnt like and a religion was founded around incomplete scripture)
4 stupid shit protestants do are commonly seen as things that the catholic church did(witch-hunts being a great example)
5 protestants form the "fundamentalist sect" of Christianity and make up the vast majority of uneducated and ignorant(to their own religion) group of Christians around the world
6 finally protestants dont compromise they are some of the largest perpetrators of hateful and ignorant actions within Christendom (kkk is a terrific example)

Ok. That's true. The Catholics have made up so much non-Biblical nonsense that Protestants often don't see eye to eye with them. I'm fine with that.

>3 protestants tend to edit out the bad and only keep the good(martin Luther took out sections of the bible he didnt like and a religion was founded around incomplete scripture)
Odd, our main problem with Catholics is their refusal to actually follow the Bible. Do we both think that the other is having trouble actually bothering to follow the Bible?

>4 stupid shit protestants do are commonly seen as things that the catholic church did(witch-hunts being a great example)
The Catholics did do some witch burning. It wasn't all Protestants doing it.

>You are painting with a broad brush here. Some protestants do compromise, some don't. I would consider the Vatican a perpetrator of hateful and ignorant actions.
Strictly speaking, fractionalism is the defining characteristic of Protestantism. The entire grouping is "Christian denominations which for one reason or another are not Catholic or Orthodox...." Whenever a major issue threatens to divide the Catholic church, they sit down, hash out an answer, and settle it (even if 'to settle' means 'to declare the argument pointlessly abstract'). There is one Catholic church, and there myriad Protestant faiths because each time a major conflict arises, there's no arbiter, no force to hold the church together, and they just split.

This actually goes hand-in-hand with the protestant notion of solitary faith (that is, the notion that each man is BEST off approaching God on his own). Many reject Catholic practice out of hand because you confess to a priest (as opposed to aloud to everyone in church the way the first Christians did, or not at all as many protestants do), because of the perceived hierarchical nature of the church, and because of a believe that Catholics don't read the Bible, substituting dogma. I'm running a bit long here, so I'd like to address those in the next post, if I may.

1) As I mentioned, the act of confession (a sacrament for the benefit of the confessor) involves a priest who has been sworn to secrecy as an act to increase professionalism and efficiency. The old Christian tradition was to confess aloud to the congregation... which, while potentially community boosting, is also terrifying and time-inefficient
2) While individual study is necessary, unguided study is less productive than guided study. Thousands and thousands of scholars over the years have put in effort, both individually and in committee, to building a body of material which may help the believer focus his studies. The process is comparable in principle to the difference between unfocused homeschooling, and a real, public education.
3) Incidentally, this is why weekly services attempt to cover the entire Bible every 3 years. That's right, the books with all the hymns and responsoral psalms for each week also have selected readings (grouped by theme to match the part of year), one book for each year. (And, since it doesn't fit anywhere else, the Apocrypha -- Bel and the Dragonc, etc. -- the Wisdom of Ruth, and the Books of Maccabees are all found in Catholic Bibles, not protestant. Some a re also used by Jewish groups -- read: Maccabees -- but are too new to be considered part of the Tanakh)
4) and the one that will surprise most people: the Catholic church is not a hierarchy...

Uh, ok. I have no interest in this and don't see why anyone would have any interest in this. Announcing your sins in front of a group is a modern cult tactic to break down cult members. My church doesn't do that.

There are essentially 2 jobs in the church: priest caring for one or more churches, and bishop of a region. It's not that different from the system still used by the Orthodoxy. The principle difference is that 1) there is a special bishop, the Bishop of Rome, who has inhereted from Peter (and thence from Christ) the duty and power to keep the church whole. He settles disputes, definitively. This power has been used ONCE. It's not used lightly. If a bishop disagrees with the Pope, he just says "I disagree" and and continues on his way. Odds are the that's the end of it. (such as when the Pope recently criticized the fiscal choices made by the Chicago diocese.) When a bishop dies, usually those from the diocese will nominate a priest they think is worthy, then other bishops continue the unbroken chain of authority by ritual laying on of hands. Archbishop is an administrative designation with no more power than an "ordinary" bishop. "Cardinal" is basically a merit badge title.

>>14259958
>Then they scoff and roll their eyes and claim that Protestants are beneath them for thinking for themselves rather than being told what to think by a central authority.
I'd be more inclined to concede the point if there was any tradition of Latin, Coigne, or Hebrew in the Protestant tradition. As it is, it's mostly old men arguing about books they wrote interpreting the Bible based on books their preacher wrote. I'd much rather a body of learned people got together to discuss the actual Bible, with an eye towards human dignity.

>If I have a problem with my sins I'll take it up with Jesus personally rather than telling some priest or congregation about it.

The fact is that the notion of independent study, never conferring with or deferring to others leads to a culture whereby few understand the historic roots of the text. More often than not, they end up "clarifying" passages by rewriting them to be gradually the exact opposite of what was originally written. Let me clarify then. You would agree that there are a lot of... let's say casual protestants, right? Never really go to church, think they know all they need to even though they never cracked a book. Happens with every religion. The major difference is that the shift from a communal, structured church to a "free market of churches" (if you will) means that there's never really a lot to challenge the people who are serious enough to go at least occasionally. Church disagrees with your opinion on an issue? Find a new one. New preacher still disagrees? Eh, he's just a man with an opinion, no better than me. There's no real reason for a person to develop deep introspection over issues in which they may be morally wrong.

There are plenty of protestants who don't fall into the trap of sloth and apathy when it comes to their religious education. They're usually the ones who show up every week. But at the same time, there's a lot who don't, and they don't feel even remotely guilty or see themselves as behaving lazily.

>> No.14260257

>>14260253
That's one issue. The other -- stemming from the rapid facturing of denominations and small churches not beholden to any directory synod -- is that very often errors will creep into teaching. At first due to confusing language, perhaps due to inadequate historical background (what does the phrase "I am the gate" really mean? And why don't you poor new wine into old wine skins?), and often on points which a preacher just plain disagrees with. When Christian goes to church and learns "love the neighbor" and another learns "except for the mud people," it's not the original biblical text to blame. It's the biases and inadequacies of the church as an institution for religious education.

Again, this is not meant to be a general indictment against Protestantism, nor to say that the Catholic institution churns out flawless educators. It does, however, seem to be a bigger problem within Protestant churches than Catholic.

Satanism is a glorification of the concept of being an adversary (which is what "Satan" actually means) to what are typical Judeo-Christian schools of thought, i.e. mental slavery to 2,000 year old notions formed as a basis of desert survival.

It also glorifies the concept of taking responsibility for one's own actions, and not being afraid of the giant imaginary friend in the sky.

It is the blind, ignorant self-importance of the grand majority of the Christian faith that Satanism jokingly also named themselves for, knowing that the Christians would immediately knee-jerk into thinking that it was about THEIR evil deity, which they did and have done for 50 years.
