[ERROR] No.14201399 [Reply] [Original] [4plebs] [archived.moe]

So a thread just dropped off that I was kinda interested in.

Space Marines. Can they have families?

I know the Salamanders live in family units, but I'm not sure they can have children.

What do you say /tg/?

>> No.14201420

Most space marines are not eunuchs. They are hypnodoctinated to be unphased by temptations of the flesh.

They CAN have families, but being space marines, they don't because they exist to kill things.

>> No.14201422

>>14201399
A while ago we established that, with how the Salamanders train recruits, it WAS possible that they could sire children before becoming Space Marines, since they finish at around 18.

That's just the Salamanders though.

Space Wolves also recruit late, so they might have a few Brothers that have sons as well, but I don't know enough about their initiation rituals to be sure.

It's probably possible but they don't usually spend much time around women.

Space Wolves aren't allowed to interact with the inhabitants of Fenris except when it's time to recruit new members. They swoop down like Valkyries, grab aspirants, and fly off to their fortress-monastery.

As to the OP, I have seen no canon material that says Space Marines are neutered, infertile, or otherwise incapable of having kids or spouses or what have you. It varies from chapter to chapter, but in chapters where Marines are allowed to interact with normal humans for any extended period of time, I imagine at least one fathers a child at some point. Salamanders, obviously, and possibly the Ultramarines come to mind but there are hundreds of other chapters.

Who gives a shit? I'm serious, why does it matter?

Being with women and having children isn't the end-all of human existence and part of the Space Marine allure is that they don't have to put up with relationships or ronery bullshit.

They are stoic badass guardians of mankind and sacrifice carnal appetites for the flesh to be more than men - to be the honed blade, the pure weapons of concentrated doom - the God-Emperor's will incarnate.

Angels of Death don't want for anything except to destroy the enemy.

Anything else is just wishful fanboy projection.

I can only think of a Space Marine's child being a blob of flesh born of Elephantiasis, a mutant, and subject to fire and purgation. Essentially Space Marine's are mutants, with their entire biology changed drastically. Even their DNA patterns are completely "warped." I don't think that's the case.

the gene seed modifies the soon-to-be-marine in specific ways by itself with the aid of chemical and medical therapy. It doesn't alter the marine's own DNA, that's left untouched.

Revisionist from what? The original Rogue trader book doesn't say either way, and at no point has it been stated that Space Marines have been castrated at all.

It DOES state, however, that according to the codex astartes, Marine must adhere to a rigorous regimen of ascetic lifestyle rituals, including vows of chastity.

3 things.

1) Of all the changes to the body listed in the books, giant penises are not among them. You seem to be the only one who's mind is fixated on giant dongs. A space marine's penis, like his cranium, would retain it's normal, human size.

That's not what I'm doing. I'm simply using my brain and imagining what else is out there. After all, almost all the dialogue and fluff come from imperial doctrine, which does not speak for all the planets and all the races in all the galaxy. The books also speak of periods of levity and mirth amongst the grim warnessness. Space Wolves, for example, are very merry folk who throw great parties between wars. Rogue Traders are also described in several places as being closer to the jolly space-buccaneer than the grim, hopeless stereotype the imperial propagandists would have us believe clings to the human condition like a sticky pall.

I can see where you're coming from but I'm still not convinced. I understand it makes logical sense that a fictional universe isn't ALL GRIM DERP ALL THE TIME, but unfortunately there simply isn't enough background describing more typical life in the Imperium that I can see. If it's there, I've missed it and it's apparently obscure enough that you've got to be a big fan to really dig for it - which I am not. I'll take Star Trek as an example again: Even a casual watcher could every so often catch an episode with the crew frolicking around somewhere on the holodeck. Even Star Wars showed us beautiful planets where you'd like to take a vacation. Not so in 40k's case. Yes, yes, I realize that it has over a billion worlds in it but they've never bothered to stop and show us the "lighter" side of 40k often enough for us to get an idea what it might be like - but we can sure as hell tell you all the fun and exciting ways a Marine or an Eldar can kill you. So, from a narrative perspective, 40k may as well be DEAD BABIES FROM THE SKY ALL THE TIME because that's sure as hell how it presents itself 90% of the time.

Space Marines are not servitors.

They are not unthinking, unfeeling robots. The life of a marine and the intense psycho-conditioning they undergo may result in a psychology different from normal human standards, but I'd like to see anyone try to stand up and say they have no emotions.

Now whether that includes sexual desire, in individuals or across entire chapters is anyone's guess. Slightly off topic, if the Geneseed just enhances the Marines body through clever use of hormones (The glands that spew muscle/bone growth hormones everywhere), being used as a backup (Second Heart), or being directly wired into an organ as an enhancement (Ear implant that improves hearing and balance) and leaves the Marines DNA untouched, why wouldn't they use the Genetic enhancements too, since the benefits would probably stack and produce a monster that would rip through normal Marines like tissue paper? I remember one Chapter, The Sons Of Aenus or something like that, that were suspected of using genetic alteration to make their warriors nearly invincible, to the point where they were shrugging off wounds that would kill a normal Astartes in *seconds*. Nah, it shouldn't be that powerful.
More like:

S3 AP6 Blast1 (place the blast marker directly in front of the space marine's base)

Incidentally, this makes Space Marine ejaculation more deadly than a lasgun.
Also, it should have Pinning.
No man (or xenos) wants to be hit by a giant man's ejaculate. Especially if that giant man decides to pull down his power armor codpiece and start working his junk in front of everybody.

There's probably some planets where the idea of letting the Emperor fuck you is considered a holy, spiritual thing, so a Space Marine, being essentially an Avatar of the Emperor, would get mad poon or ass on a planet like that.

Hell, it's not unusual to have people as big and strong as space marines naturally, in the 40k universe. Women are no exception. A variety of things could cause it; High gravity worlders could easily be as strong. Hive dregs could easily grow as large. Muscle grafts and bionics...

The list goes on and on. Space marines are space marines not because of the physicality of their position, but because of the decades of rigorous training, indoctrination, and genetic memory they possess.

Malal is not actually entirely aware that he has worshippers and is solely concerned with his hatred of the other chaos gods (and the parasitic relationship he is forced to endure with them).

He is not the most lucid of dieties. Ideas like "We should make female space marines because it would annoy x mortal faction" would at best just confuse him.

On the other hand, if you go by the fluff, chaos marines seem to be nearly as numerous and ubiquitous as orks and so after ten thousand years it could very well be that with looser quality control standards and the ingenuity of the Dark Admech that they are like ten thousand times more numerous than loyalists.
