I wanted Cyrus to be the traitor, but I got Jonah, instead.
However, I would not be surprised at all if Cyrus turned out to be the canon traitor.

Cyrus had his uses, demolishing buildings, counter sniping and the like.
Jonah I will give you though.

If anything I found Thaddeus to be more useless with the speed at which he died later on. Even when you give him terminator armour, the nerf he takes to movement speed reduces any gains you might have gotten.

That said, none are as good as the FC - Thulebot - Tarkus - Avitus master race.

Although it always struck me as odd at just how weak Avitus's Assault Cannon was when he was in terminator armour, but the Cyclone Missile Launcher more than made up for that.

Let me put a new light on the Dawn of War opening, that may make it seem less stupid. However, this is just conjecture, you do not have to accept this.

What if the flag was a beacon for the drop pods? That would change the line "Reinforcements are en route" from a "Its gonna be ok" tone to a "get your ass in gear" tone. they needed to charge out there, otherwise the drop pods would have landed far off target.

And by the way, Cyrus and Jonah are the best squads in the game.

I'm actually serious. If you upgrade Jonah, give him a certain psychic hood and give him ignite soul and smite, he is firing off a ton of free powers every few seconds, no more micro managing needed.

Cyrus is a beast once his melee skill allows him to use accessories with energy costs, and he can use them while infiltrated, add a sniper rifle that has no reload time, and he can wipe entire maps.

>> No.13633230

I dunno man. Cyrus became a gamebreaker in Chaos Rising once he got the Demolitions Expert and a pack of Cluster Mines. Just keep on spamming them and putting on a trollface. Reason for Jonah was for less/no cooldown.

Also, how bad do you have to be at games to have Thaddeus die often? Nevermind that his best abilities come from high health stats, if you're not a retard he is Aerial Assault-ing so often that any enemies near him are as airborne as often as he is.

But it's mentioned in Diomedes' biography on the site that Tarkus was the one that convinced him to let the FC go without a fight. It doesn't confirm he's not the traitor, but we're hearing very little on the Avitus or Thaddeus front.

>> No.13633299

I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just saying he requires a lot more micro than say Avitus or Tarkus, who you can generally leave to their own devices with the occaisional healthpack or tactical stance or whatnot.

Either that, or the best at hiding his crazy. Also, a lot of people are seduced into Chaos because they think that they can use it for good ends - which was Tarkus' whole motivation, right? That he could use the power of Chaos to save the Chapter from dying out, but would shoulder the corruption alone by being the only one who would actually worship it?

If Tarkus or Avitus are the traitor I'm going to be fucking pissed.

Tarkus adheres strictly to Guilliman's Codex

Of the Tactical Space Marine, bedrock of his Chapter and paragon to his brothers, I shall tell thee.

He shall be steeped in the lore of battle and schooled in all manner of weapon and strategy. With combat blade, boltgun and grenade he shall assail the foe. But these are mere tools: a Tactical Marine's true weapons are his courage, his wits, and his dedication to his brothers.

He will bring his foe to battle in a manner and time of his choosing, never himself caught unready or ill-prepared for the task at hand. In defence he shall be stalwart as the mountain, a bulwark stood firm against the enemies of Man. In attack he shall strike with the wrath of the Immortal Emperor, felling the foe without mercy, remorse, or fear.

So does Avitus.

A Devastator's reach shall be without limit and his touch without mercy. Fire shall roar from his fingertips, but it shall consume him not. Thunder will roar when he calls, yet it will swallow him not.

Let the Devastator squad be thy blazing wrath, bringing the light of the Emperor's justice to the darkest corners of the battlefield. Wherever he stands, that shall be his fortress of righteousness. He shall hold in his gift the fate of all who pass before his unblinking gaze.

All shall fear him, and he shall fear no one.

But no, in a metaphorical sense the fire and thunder /did/ consume him- when he turns traitor he's become so taken with his killin's that he began to lose sight of its purpose (witness his contempt for unaugmented humans when as a Marine his entire reason for being is to protect them), and when Kyras shows him that the chapter is a pillar of lies the only thing he has left is his martial skill. He's definitely a sensible choice.

I still think that Thaddeus is more likely to be the traitor than Avitus is.

Avitus' speech was "lolangry, killing chaos"
While he has a lot of angry rants, they never went outside of his duty. Thaddeus often made remarks about wanting to do something outside of their mission, such as when he demands to be sent on the spire mission, or when Tarkus has to bring him back to reason.

Thaddeus is more susceptible to the trickery of Chaos, just as occurred in his betrayal speech. He felt he knew better than his chain of command, because he is young, brash and impetuous.

The problem with Thaddeus's betrayal is that the characters whine about how he's "so young to be a Space Marine" and for, like, 4 straight dialogue chats, Thaddeus acts like a punish loner teenager repeatedly crying "you don't understand! You weren't there, you don't know what it was like! /wrist"

Cyrus's betrayal was my favorite reason, but ultimately, Tarkus and Jonah are the most likely traitors. However, since we heard Jonah's voice in the Retribution Imperium vs. Chaos trailer, it MIGHT not be him.

People say Avitus should be the traitor because he was too bloody, but he HATES traitors and turncoats. I doubt it was him.

Force Commander could not have been the traitor. That's stupid. *sigh* However, I wouldn't put it past Relic, as all the other characters had voices and faces, whereas Eff Sea Vanilla Ice was just a face. Easy to replace.

Tarkus, because, well, Tarkus. The most DELICIOUS traitor. No other character has items detailing their descent into Chaos. It must (read: it should) be Tarkus.

I've only just started playing DoW2, and I pretty much suck at it, but I'm really digging Hormagaunts for the Tyranids. Once you've upgraded them with Adrenal Glands they're quite good at cutting up enemy infantry. Two broods, in addition to the single free one you get upon starting, are my first purchases.

Try and get a unit of both types of Warrior and a Zoanthrope and keep them close to the rest of your army, as the Synapse buffs they give are a big help.

Also, dat Alpha Lictor. With Leap and Feeder Tendrils, he's like a blender tied onto a pogo-stick, goddamn.

Practice, my man. Practice lots.

For really easy practice with Orks, start your build pattern with Sluggas-Shootas. Two Slugga Boy squads running together is good early-game punch, except again Heretics with their Slalalalalalaensh explosion.
I personally go with the Kommando Nob all the way, since early on, before the There Is Only War update, I'd get shuriken cannoned constantly, and needed the early grenades to disrupt the weapon teams.

For the 'nids, practice first with the Hive Tyrant and Ravenor Alpha. They're not too different in principle from Orks -- not saying my description for Orks will also work for 'nids, but get some practice in. You know they're assaulty armies, so play them that way.

Cyrey, Martey and Jonesey - Confirmed for Retribution.

Avitus - He's angry as FUCK at all times. At one point in DoW: II he pretty much says, 'The chapter is lying! All we have left for us is killing and death.' He has no loyalty to the chapter as a whole, and could be convinced to side with the Chaos forces in it just to learn the truth/kill bitches/not be strung along.

Thaddeus - Brash and untempered, he often questioned the chapter and its motives, as well as his commanders. On the other side, his betrayal didn't feel right, and he's the main 'Human' boy in the cast.

Tarkus - Betrayal was amazing, items were given to him to MAKE him fall. An astartes with centuries of conflicts to haunt him and loyalty to the shapter-masters. Very likely the cannon traitor.

Force Commander - He might open his mouth and start screaming about blood and skulls, but we have no idea because we never hear him talk.

Thule - My body is DEEEAAAAAD!

Ok here's the sauce:

"Relic have jammed in six unique story-lines across sixteen or so shared missions, and more RPG elements than a rocket factory. I played through nearly all the beginning missions, and what’s striking is that the stories are mutually exclusive; in each of the intro missions, your chosen band of heroes / rogues / horrors alien beyond Kieron’s darkest fantasies kill a character from another storyline and alter the plot fundamentally. The first boss the Freebooters face is the Elven Autarch – who they stomp Elf Jam whilst chatting casually to the Inquisitor about her hat; similarly the Tyranids make a nice snack of first Sergeant Merrick, then Lord General Castor of the Imperial Guard."

And here's the Thule thing:

"The start of the Chaos Space Marine campaign in Dawn of War II: Retribution opens on the planet Typhon, where a heated battle is taking place with the Blood Ravens. Eliphas and his Chaos comrades are closing in on an old friend that he’s been tracking. It’s just the beginning of his mission to fulfill his bargain with Lord Abaddon."

A: There are traitor guard (the 188th Xenobane or something) who send a Baneblade after you in the campaign, and the little of the game I played indicates there’s a shit ton of infighting. Basically, the whole place is consumed by the warp – and the Space Marine leadership stands divided. Diomedes’ kills a large chunk of space marines at one point for trying to level Calderis, and the biggest answer I got at the end of the mission is that they “answer to a higher power”. There are plenty of reasons for infighting at this point."

40k Orks have always been comic relief. Fantasy Orks have always been a semi-serious race of barbaric marauders.

There's a reason that the WAAAAAGH making technology magically work and the whole Orks=Fungus things have been limited to 40k.

What, are you retarded? Have you even seen the previous 2 fantasy Orc books? Have you seen the travesty that Matt Ward put them through for 7th edition? They only recently gained a sliver of competency with 8th.

Oh, and *cough*... Rogue Trader. Newfag. I miss my fucking Lungburstas, Gobsmashas, and actual fucking tanks. But I was quite glad when Orks took a turn from being pants-on-head retarded and much more sinister and brutal.

And this is why you're killing 40k

>> No.13635506

I get it. Your opinion is clearly the only one that matters from your Matt-Ward dick-sucking viewpoint.

Hurr, Orks are meant to be comic relief punching-bag villains that can't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. You'd probably think they were "represented well" if they slowly walked toward the enemy quoting silly lines, waiting to get shot in mass.

You win, Mehreen-fag. Enjoy your painthammer-40k.

>Who is Matt Ward?
He's arguably one of the worst game developers ever to work for GW. He writes from a blatant fanboy style with more than a dash of 'canon-sue' added in. To put it bluntly, his latest books have had things like Blood Angels walking away from a fight with Necrons as if it was 'the honorable thing to do', and every spess mehreen chapter wishing it was Ultramarines.

>I don't play TT40k, I just follow the lore.

40k Orks: Hurr hurr, we're totally powerful and stuff guys, we have funny weapons that shouldn't really work and could kick your ass if we united!

Fantasy Orcs: We have shitty but workable technology, and our magic is prone to making the caster explode. Despite all that, we don't need to unite, because we can fucking ruin half the Empire with a fraction of the total orcs in the world. Also, we kicked Archaeon's ass.

Don't forget WHFB Orks and Goblins, and probably very soon the 5th edition Necrons codex for 40k.

>Grants the targeted ally temporary invulnerability."

I saw that too. I really wish I could tell ya. Brikkfist looks boring.

>> No.13635705

I don't recall Fantasy O&G to have any major fluff holes. It's main flaws were in game play, where units costs too much for too little, there were some really terrible magic items, and of course, fucking animosity. The miscast table used to be pretty bad too, but compared to the 8th edition table it's downright tame.

>> No.13635706

>Don't forget WHFB Orks and Goblins, and probably very soon the 5th edition Necrons codex for 40

Necrons have always been portrayed as the strongest faction anyway, i doubt Matt Ward can make them even more overpowered.

Then again he might like them more than he likes Ultramarines since he actually wrote the Necrons kicking the Ultramarine's ass in the Fall of Damnos in the 5th edition codex, even went as far as to write the little detail of "Sicarius was taken out in one blow by the Necron Lord"

Meh... He really didn't matter to me much.
Not at all.
>Weirdboy (some of them Weirdboy Warpheadz) and Mindaz?
Yeah, I miss having Psykers that were actually worth using, and lethal. Their inclusion in the current codex was a cruel joke.
>How about the clans?
But of course. I'm not fond of them becoming 'color-scheme' variants. And I believe I already mentioned which one I favored.

>Because it's not like 3rd ed turned Orks from the actually interesting and unique army flavour into a boring "We're tough and strong and will kill EVERYONE" race or anything.
Not at first. I will agree with you on that. But from a purely Goffish standpoint, it made more sense and gave them a serious mean-streak. When GW... I mean Andy and the Ork community, actually took the effort to bring back the clans, I was happy. I much preferred the 'more serious' approach of the Goffs.

But to be completely honest, the primary thing that I probably hated most about DoW 2 had to be the complete lack of any reason to play the single-player campaign. Meh. Didn't want to pay for 1/2 of a game.

>> No.13635733

That or someone made a grave mistake.

>> No.13635741

The entirety of the problem to the current O&G army book was Matt Ward reducing them to night unplayable.

Gameplay was also the major issue with the Daemon army-book, and why it broke 7th ed.

Sigh, why do people rile agianst 40k Orks being funny.

Protip: Just because they're the comic relief doesn't mean they're not still dangerous. Them NOT being the comic rleief would be pretty damn out-of-character for a race who's entire underlying reason to do anything can be summed up as "'cuz it's fun!"

Fantasy Orcs: We have shitty technology, borrowed from other races. And our magic is prone to making the caster explode. Despite all that, we don't need to unite, because we can't even put up a decent siege, and stood outside Altdorf hoping they'd let the gates down. Also, we pretended to kick Archaeon's ass after he fought Valten, but plot-armor forbade us from doing anything about it or killing him.

Yeah... they sound great in fantasy...
