/tg/, I know some of you have read the new Dark Eldar codex.

Please, I want to hear about the new fluff. Anything, particularly interesting minutiae, either on the society of the Dark Eldar, fluff for the various units, or just on Commorragh. I'm also dying to see/hear about the Talos and Chronos, but anything is appreciated.

In return, a funny picture that is undoubtedly related.

Some questions on DE, for use in Dark Heresy and those games:

Do DE have psykers? How good are they?

Do DE use warp sorcery?

What exactly is their attitude towards Slaanesh? I've heard that they're NOT Slaanesh cultists, despite all the souls they sacrifice to it and all the torture and hedonism and excess. My opinion is, if your religious life revolves around appeasing an evil god with blood sacrifices so it doesn't eat YOU, then you are a cult of that god. Just not the same kind of cult as the "please eat me dark master" guys.

Incidentally, the following attitudes prevail among the players of my DH game:

1: Eldar are Eldar, we don't give a shit about their little factions and civil wars.

2: Eldar break easy and their weapons are flimsy, antiquated shit compared to Imperial tech.

Thing about #2 there is that it is the opinion of the characters in the game, due to odd luck with rolls.

We know that the Eldar are ancient and advanced and all of that, which is why it's funny that our characters have no respect for them. Every time we got our hands on eldar weaponry, it kept rolling misses or minimum damage, until we just stopped bothering. Every fight against a DE tends to go *dodge*dodge*dodge*SPLAT*

That, and we usually fight chaos and daemons, which the GM does a good job of making scary as fuck. At this point, we're all

"Ship on the sensors, sir!"
"Oh god"
"Looks like it's covered in spikes!"
"OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD"
"Positive ident... she's Dark Eldar, sir!"
"OH THANK GOD."

Dark Eldar hate and fear Slaanesh and Chaos as a whole.

The Imperium is a bloodthirsty, brutal regime that wages an unending war upon the galaxy in the name of a god who demands the extermination of every other living creature in the galaxy beyond those who worship him. Cowardice results in immediate execution, mercy is seen as a weakness, and those who kill the most enemies are venerated and raised up as heros. Skulls and skull motiffs are everywhere, and blood is often seen as another strong symbol. But that doesn't make the Imperium on giant Khornate warband.

No, it makes them a warband of the Emperor.

Two guys in the trench. One serves with faith, because he believes the Emperor will reward him. The other serves in fear, because he believes the Emperor will punish him if he does not. Both are worshippers of the Emperor.

You fear the great god in the volcano? You go on raids to nearby islands to grab captives to throw into the volcano, so it doesn't come for you instead? Surprise, you worship the volcano!

You fear Slaanesh? You go on raids to grab slaves to sacrifice to Slaanesh, so it doesn't get your soul instead? Surprise, you worship Slaanesh!

A cult doesn't necessarily have to LIKE the entity it serves. An abject terror is fine too.

Dark Eldar don't sacrifice souls to Slaanesh; this is a misconception. Slaanesh has a hold on their souls and constantly drains a tiny amount of soulstuff all the time, rather like a very long, very thin straw into a big glass of water that's always sucking. The Dark Eldar consume souls to refill their glasses, so to speak, rather than giving Slaanesh souls to distract him.

Dark Eldar have been represented pretty well in Black library stuff when they do appear. Beating them is kinda pointless you can't do anything really to put a permanent dent in them, just chase them away.

In Dark Disciple, they capture the main chaplain word bearers guy and a few of his squad, replacing his squad member's organs with inferior versions so they can study them and implant something inside the chaplain to cut him off from the wrap. He eventually breaks out and removes the device cutting him off from the warp. Slaanesh then comes through him (which he attempts to stop till he/she says that he/she isn't here for him) and suddenly the chaplain starts vomiting pink mist and there are Daemonettes everywhere and Dark Eldar souls being om nommed.

Could be 100:1 odds of mandrakes to warriors and the warriors would still best them. Their rules blow.

Personally, I don't like the direction the fluff went. Testtube babies with DE regenerating from a pinky that didn't get obliterated when the warrior sucked on a plasma cannon round to the chest.

It's like you expect to read on the back page of the codex "And if it wasn't bad enough, a billion rates invaded the wreckage the dark eldar left behind picking up severed limbs and giblets before vanishing".

I'm just waiting for plastic aspect warriors at this point I think. DE lost their appeal for me.

Considering how Eldar already had resurrection (sort of) it is ok that DE have that too. And bio tech is way too underplayed in 40k.

You would have wanted what exactly instead?

Same fluff except with "iconic" gimpsuit mandrakes and tormentor helms retained?

Keyword "try".

I wasn't trying to fanwank Dark Eldar, they would try to capture the beast and make it an atraction on their Wytch cult. If they are succesfull or not it's another story.

Why are Imperium player so defensive?

I wanted dark eldar to still be eldar. The old ones still had that noble quality to them. They were just significantly more egotistical and treated the universe as their own.

The idea that they're now born in testtubes is silly. And the idea they they're regenerated from lost limbs is even more so.

Hopefully there's more fluff then what was released in the second DE scan. Because if that's it, it's very disappointing. More about the Baron and Duke in particular as they seem more to my liking. Highly egotistical and eccentric characters.

>I wanted dark eldar to still be eldar. The old ones still had that noble quality to them.
They are trying to rebuild their empire because the Eldar are too lazy and up their own asses to solve anything. Noble enough.
>The idea that they're now born in testtubes is silly.
It's 40k, stop complaining about silly.
>Because if that's it, it's very disappointing.
I think you're just too hard to please.

Vect is your standard benevolent overlord and Malys is a Class A++ Megabitch, the kind which kills her underlings for nothing.

What the fuck is noble about HURRR RAEP RAEP RAEP SO RANDUMB ^.^ anyway? The whole concept of old Dark Eldar was that in a universe of necessary evils, they're being fucktards because they can.

Not all of them are. Read Trueborn fluff.
>And the idea they they're regenerated from lost limbs is even more so.
Read more bio sci fi.

Herpderp. Appiciate what you got. The fluff is top-notch and has no toe-cringing moments everyone feared.
