My fellow fatbeards, it is time for a rage thread. Not just images that make you rage, but links too.

First up on our agenda: TV Tropes, one of the many e-abodes of the Glorious Aspie Master Race that will eventually replace humanity:

Now, let's begin.

I don't really rage about anything; I usually just get a bit sad.

And this, I think, is probably one of the saddest things I've ever seen. It probably tops the holocaust because that was an act of sheer hate yet typical human emotional extremes.

It's not that some academic perused the topic, because in academia, any topic is worth exploring. The sad is that the news station felt it was appropriate to join in and slam an almost universal-good. If I was the top executive at Fox I would have immediately fired everyone involved with bringing that story to air with no excuses short of documented protest of the idea. Of all the people involved, not one of them had the moral decency to say no.

Seen it before, but it's just... perplexing. It seems as though the author honestly believes that Inuyasha is better than Shakespeare. Despite that, Shakespeare has stood the test of time, hailed as the exemplar of the English language. His work has been dissected and examined by some of the most brilliant minds in academia, and its beauty seen the world over. Can we say the same for Fullmetal Alchemist? Ah. So, that's exactly what you were implying. Well, then, what would qualify as 'higher' art? Most forms of literature have been intended for mass audience; certainly all novels written for the past two centuries. By your standards, then, all novels have equivalent literary merit. So, then, something not written for mass consumption might be more worthy. And what would that be? Are private letters better simply because they weren't intended for a wide audience? Scholarly discourses, maybe? Love poetry designed for the beloved's eyes only? I'm struggling to understand your position.

Let's take another example. Twilight was intended for mass consumption. Is it exactly as good as, say, A Tale of Two Cities or Great Expectations? After all, both were written for fairly lowbrow, mass audiences.

Thank you, sir. I believe that you were intentionally stating your point in overly simplistic terms in an attempt to arouse ire, and you quite nearly succeeded.

That said, you raise a better point here, having explained yourself more fully and with, I think, less intent to antagonize. Animation is a relatively new phenomenon, and I don't know whether or not any will rise to the same standards. The visual medium can succeed in arousing emotions as efficaciously as does the written word, and sometimes moreso as it requires less effort on the part of the audience to enjoy. The question remains, though, whether that factor will hinder animation on the road to legitimacy.

>> No.10812368

Why does everyone concern themselves with audience when trying to determine art? Isn't obvious that it really comes down to talent? It's the difference between Twilight and Dracula, between Family Guy and Princess Mononoke, between Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes.

All of those are intended for a mass audience, and the real difference between them is the talent of their creators.

This extends to the point where anything from combs to tables become effective weapons. I can also throw matches with unerring accuracy, and have struck and thrown a match with one movement to have it bounce off a friend's eye before lighting in mid-air as an intimidatory weapon.

I've read Anthem, and it was decent considering the author had learned English very recently. I returned Atlas Shrugged to the library after falling asleep a mere 100 pages in.

Yeah. I don't like Rush for the Lol Objectivism, I like it because they are three musical geniuses. I can understand why some people don't like them, what with the eight/eleven/eighteen/twenty one minute songs, and the vocalist with a voice higher than some sopranos I know, and the occasional masturbatory solos, but, hey. The defining feature of what is considered great art is interpretation, there being something for hipsters to discuss over their lattes, something that the rest of us "just don't get".

With animation, this is much more difficult to produce. Less is hidden, more is stated overtly, and of course it is popular. There are movies that are considered art, but they tend to fail as movies because they focus on being art, not a movie.

The way we currently define art, there is very little overlap between what we consider a good movie and good art.

Fun fact: college isn't necessary, not by a long shot. Of course, the amusement of this piece is wholly in the erroneous corrections of the self-important aspie that made it in the first place.
