Hey, /tg/, did you see the new XCOM trailer? Not only is it an FPS, as we all know, but now the aliens are revealed to (thus far) be ink blobs.

Should I be raging?

Except that now we'll never get a real sequel because they've hijacked the concept and it's going to become popular with the kind of people who liked Bioshock despite its myriad flaws.

>> No.10436012

If what we saw was the equivalent of a terror mission I'd be happy. IE you picked X guys outfitted them and sent them in to clean up and get as much info as possible that would be great. Tar things are a shock troop/possessor to infiltrate at a later date and the obelisk thing is a terror weapon of epic proportions.

But I doubt it, it's the group who made bioshock 2. It's the group who just repackaged an already made idea with a slightly different paint job and guess what this game looks like. The bioshock engine with a completely different paint job.

Enjoy your hot rod modified by a half assed amateur and painted a sickly yellow color.

>I mean, seriously - an X-COM game that's set in the 50's? They clearly fapped to Bioshock too much. And those cartoonish faces? It looks like a fucking saturday morning cartoon about flying saucers and little green men. It's hideous and disgusting. It's a child of Bioshock and X-Com that should have been aborted. I can't believe what i'm seeing.

/tg/... we don't know anything about this game. For all you know it'll be a straight remake of X-Com only first person and with a different art style (not a bad thing, unless you REALLY dig the 80s vomit from the original).

Also, if you're just going to rage and complain and nostalgia then take it to /v/. Here, we discuss and debate.

And one more thing... if you actually liked Fallout 2 then you have no taste. Criticize 3's story and unfulfilling dialogue all you want, since they sucked, but don't pretend it wasn't more Fallout then 2. Heck, i think it did humor better then 1.

Only if you completely disregard the sodding trailer, which consists entirely of shooting black blobs and taking a photograph, the doing of which immediately preceded by the text "STUDY THEM", suggesting it is presenting a research gameplay mechanic.

I liked Fallout 3. I don't like the way this looks. No sense of tactical gameplay, and the photos = research thing is just a complete Bioshock ripoff.

Well, he might have a point.
"/tg/-related" usually just means stuff /tg/ likes.
/tg/ doesn't seem to like this, hence why it'd be unrelated.
On the other hand, /tg/ does like bitching about stuff.

Just to sum this up nicely, OP, rage.

There are no methods of controlling your fellow FBI agents (no "Go here", or "Guard here"? Seriously?), the game never once involves X-COM and takes place in what appears to be the 50's, the only real "choices" you make in "the base" is choosing from pre-scripted missions on a US map, and Elerium-115 is now an "Aztec Artifact" found laying around on people's back porches for you to scoop up and bring back to base (because this 1950's base runs on Elerium already, and that's your ultimate goal. Collecting Elerium that aliens left sitting around unguarded and in the open.)

They've made it no secret that they plan on distancing themselves from the other X-COM games as far as possible, and that they're not using any other aliens, either. In fact, this game doesn't actually take place in the X-COM universe.

All this would be forgiven if it'd at least have a good co-op mode to play with my friends who are ignorant of the original X-COM: UFO Defense. Oh hey, there's no multiplayer!

Pass.

Now, if they are REALLY intent on a FPS, let's get this IP to the guys who made Swat 4. I'd play that game like I play my women: hard and frequently until it breaks in half.
