Hello, /tg/
I had an idea for a way to handle magic in the setting. I thought it was interesting, but I'm not entirely sure if others feel the same way, or if the idea's been done to death already.
Essentially, magic stems from disease. Not just any disease, but like, sort of plague that affects only certain people in a population It strikes seemingly at random and has wildly different symptoms and effects from person to person.
Given how varied the symptoms are for each case, it is incredibly difficult to detect until the diseased burst into flames or turn into a human lightning rod, or some other crazy wild magic effect.
Those who survive long enough with the illness learn how to handle it, and with the help of medication and proper treatment, control it. These are wizards and sorcerers. Wizards being the diseased who control their power through intense research and training, and sorcerers with a stronger immune system capable of handling the disease better while still catching it in the first place.
An afflicted person wouldn't be able to control all types of magic though--they would be limited to however their bodies/minds are affected. Some people would become pyromancers, others can control plantlife, etc.
What do you guys think?
