As a DM you should not allow social interactions between players to be determined by dice rolls and skills.

If you are doing this, you are basically allowing one player to control someone else's character.

If two players are butting heads, they need to talk it out in character. If you don't have faith in their ability to roleplay or argue/discuss/debate in a mature fashion, then suggest to them what their character would do in that situation, but never -ever- let a dice roll decide what a player does.

Letting someone roll diplomacy vs another player to get them to do what you want is a selfish way to play. Even most mind control and charm spells stipulate that the spell won't work if you try to make the target do something that is against their character. They at least get a chance to resist. And the player doesn't get quite so mad, because, well, it is magic doing it.

One more time: if you don't think your players are capable of arguing, do -not- under -any circumstances- resort to opposing skill checks and random dice rolls to resolve the situation. Force them to learn how to do it properly. Make them grow up and stop being such whiny, self indulgent children.

Hey. Just dropped by to point out that you guys are having a pretty asinine argument.

Even for an edition war thread.
