the problem with 3e is that alignment is a mechanical thing (responding to Detect ____)that is supposed to be a summation of your character, but is introduced as if it were a template for your character's personality. the problem with 4e is that alignment has no mechanical purpose but is made more generic so it's easier to have wider interpretations of how to RP as a specific alignment.

Also, does The Warden break the alignment system? I want to say he's Chaotic Lawful since he strictly enforces the law (thanks to his jailbot's effectiveness) in the most imaginative and chaotic ways.
