Its pretty fucked up. However theoretically you could survive, even thrive there as a non Eldar. Xeno mercenaries do alright there if they're skilled and smart enough, and that could include humans. You'd have a huge fucking uphill battle distinguishing yourself from all the other monkeigh though, and even once you had you'd be just a mistep away from some horrible fate.

I'd check out the 5th ed codex as well as the various 40k wikis for some more information on the various factions and units and whatnot

You can of course mix and match factions as you wish, but the short version is:
>Kabal
Your dudes in cool armor with sweet boats; lots of good firepower on Trueborn (your elite squads), not much in a fistfight though
>Wych Cult
Your drugged up crazies and one of your melee sources; fragile (with one exception) but pumping out a lot of attacks with some special rules here and there. Reavers are the exception, as if you give them the +1T drug they're T5 2W +4 and do some real fucking work
>Covens
Your human centipede biosculpted horror stuff; very tough by Dark Eldar standards but rely on getting close to do much; fortunately you have good, fast transports available.

Then you've got auxiliaries like Incubi, Scourges and Mandrakes that can fill various needs.

One thing I will recommend you keep in mind that I wish I'd considered when starting; you're going to have to transport and/or paint these models. Some of them are very fiddly in both respects. Not a deal breaker, but I find myself considering it more for my further choices.

Oh, and if you can get it the Gangs of Commoragh set is a pretty sweet deal, as is the SC box

How faithful do you want your table-top games adapted to video games? Straight translation of mechanics, liberally inspired, or lore only?

Consider contacting the Arbites, determining if they're trustworthy and asking to compare notes with them. Ditto the church, Enforcers and Admech if there's a tech-heresy connection.
If you've still got some living potential informants who have simply refused to talk to you, you've got two options:
>Capture/Interrogate
>Shadow/Observe

The first one you generally only want to do if you have to, or if you're on a time crunch and don't care about going loud.
The second is far better, but of course leaves you open to being spotted/blowing your cover. The way my "subtle" operations usually work is an assassin/scum type does the following/observing assisted by a secondary sneaky type, with the heavy hitters in the crew not far away trailing at a discrete distance in a ground car or other subtle means of conveyance. If the primary observer gets made, the secondary observer takes over, if they get made too, then the heavy support comes sprinting in and captures the target and you switch to full scale interrogation. In any case, you should always have an interrogation room prepped and ready for use.
