Not a great system, kind of like a more restrictive version of FATE, but it is designed to run this sort of game, where you have one mad genius and a bunch of normies tagging along. It has mechanics for what you're saying.

Granted, with a good enough group, the way you're describing it would probably work better than the mechanics.

Has anyone played any of the existing Dr Who RPG's?

Are there any good games based on the Who franchise, either classic or modern?

Also, is there a mechanical difference between versions? If so, is it significant? I would imagine different NPC sheets and possibly different stats/traits/whatever for the Doctor, but is the system fundamentally the same? Is one preferred over the other?

While I sort of agree with you, pic related is a good argument against.

I don't think 3.X is the appropriate system to play Doctor Who.

My group's going to be playing a Doctor Who RPG game run by me next. I have an idea for a hook, but I'm not sure how well it'd work.

One of the PCs is a Time Lord under the influence of a misplaced Chameleon Arch, and at some point when they find and use it, they reroll themselves as one.

Could this work, and if so, how?

This is my Doctor Who RPG book. Your argument is invalid.

My friend recently bought the DWRPG and keeps pestering our gaming group to play it. I was thinking of buying but I don't want to waste my money on something that turns out not to be that good. From what I've seen/heard of it before it doesn't sound like a particularly new or inventive system and seems like it could just as easily be done in spycraft. But i want your expert opinion /tg/.
tl;dr: should i get the Doctor who RPG?
