>Imotekh
>capable commander

>910.M41 The Storm Grows
>Imotekh’s campaigns are halted briefly by the Imperium’s resolute defence of forge world Hypnoth. Imperial Guard and Space Marine reinforcements flood into the battle zone, and though they cannot achieve a lasting victory, they succeed in tying down the Necron assault for several months. Encouraged by the prophecies of the astromancer Orikan the Diviner, Imotekh finally breaks the stalemate by launching a series of attacks on Hypnoth’s supply worlds, Praedis-Zeta and Nyx.

>The first two raids perform entirely as expected, with the worlds laid waste and their vital supplies destroyed or claimed by the Sautekh forces. However, an unforeseen Tyranid infestation on Nyx wreaks havoc amongst the Necron forces and threatens to completely derail Imotekh’s entire campaign. Nevertheless, Imotekh rises to the challenge, weaving a strategy that manipulates the Tyranid swarm into venting its fury on the remaining Imperial defenders. With both sides thus distracted, Imotekh is able to extricate his remaining forces.

The 5th edition rulebook presented Abaddon with a similar situation in the form of the Imperial Navy fortress Cancephalus. He went for its supply world first and brought Cancephalus down without even touching it, freeing up an entire sector for his fleets.

Nope.

>The Despoiler felt his pulse quicken as he stared at the gently spinning planet before him on the hololith. Many times had he seen this world, and each time, it remained defiantly beyond his taloned grasp. It was nothing remarkable to look upon, merely one inhabited world among millions in the galaxy. Its bleak, grey surface, arrayed with streaked weather patterns and slate grey oceans, looked like countless other worlds that had fallen before him. But where those other worlds had burned in the fires of the Planet Killer, this one had stood against everything the Eye of Terror had hurled against it. He formed the name of the world with thin, dead lips.

>“Cadia.”

>A ripple of fear passed through the bridge of the Planet Killer as those closest to Abaddon felt his rage build within him. Mewling Chaos Spawn jangled their chains as they sensed their master’s anger, and withered, hunchbacked tech creatures, fearful of the Despoiler’s unpredictable temper, slithered into the concealing shadows. The war was already underway. The ships of Typhus, the Herald of Nurgle, were spreading their contagions throughout the sectors surrounding Cadia, and Tarraq Darkblood’s Night Lords were killing and mutilating their way through Imperial space with murderous relish. Already reeling from these twin blows, the Cadian sector was poised to fall.

>Hanging in glowing suspensor fields, a host of scrying stones surrounded the Despoiler, each displaying an array of torment and carnage. In one, rampaging warriors of the World Eaters butchered screaming Imperial soldiers, while in another, a diseased, corpse-choked wasteland burned with pyres of the dead. Scenes of slaughter and war, armies marching to battle, and conquered worlds filled his senses, and the sights and sounds of a galaxy burning were pleasing to him. He felt his satisfaction ebb as one of his genuflecting servant creatures approached.

>A tremor ran through the metre-thick ceramite decking beneath Abaddon’s feet, reverberating with a dull boom throughout the armoured hull of the massive vessel and interrupting the Despoiler’s reverie.

>“Warmaster,” bleated a hunchbacked heretic tech-priest thing, shuffling forward to bow before the Despoiler. “The planet’s core is beginning to break up, causing unpredictable and powerful fluctuations in its magnetic field.” It paused, twin worm-tongues nervously flicking out to lick at canker-eaten lips. “Perhaps it would be wiser to order the vessel back to a point beyond the area of danger.”

>The Despoiler hissed in irritation, his thoughts disturbed by the intrusion of the minion-thing now cowering at his feet. Sensing its master’s mood, his sword shivered in its scabbard, eager to be unleashed and fed. Abaddon laid a reassuring hand on the skull-carved pommel of the sheathed weapon, soothing the mood of the daemon-thing bound into the warp-forged metal of the blade. Also sensitive to their master’s mood, one of the hulking, armoured figures of Abaddon’s Terminator bodyguard stepped forward, crackling lightning claws sliding out with a low, buzzing sound from its armoured fists as it prepared to remove the source of its master’s irritation.

>Another tremor ran through the deck, underlining the tech-priest’s words, and through the viewing port Abaddon saw a gout of fiery magma hundreds of miles long spurting up from the burning surface and exploding high in orbit above the dying world.

>At a curt gesture from Abaddon, the bodyguard stepped back to rejoin the circle of silent warriors standing round the edge of the chamber.

>Whimpering in terror, the tech-priest thing scampered gratefully away back into the safe anonymity of the surrounding shadows.

- Execution Hour

RIP lightning claw dude.

In light of the release of the new CSM Codex, let me ask you an important question.

What do you think of the Warmaster of all Chaos? Do you see him as a threatening menace and the bane of the loyalists or do you still see him as an armless buffoon?

The galaxy's mightiest master of menace is back, with commander Creed and Eldrad Ulthran helpless before him...but how different Abaddon truly is? Let us find out!

In 6th edition Abaddon has the same number of base attacks as before, but also Rage and paired specialist weapons, giving him 7 Talon of Horus (S8 AP3 Shred) attacks at no risk to himself as Talon is not a daemon weapon, or up to 13 Drach'nyen (S5 AP2 daemon weapon) attacks when charging. He's also got Counterattack, and Hatred&Preferred Enemy against loyalist Marines.

In 5th edition he did 4,86 wounds to Marines (3+) and 3,24 wounds to terminators (2+/5++)when charging. Without charge the numbers change to 4,32 wounds and 2,88 wounds.

6e Abaddon charging does 6,05 wounds against marines with Talon of Horus (24% improvement). Drach'nyen averages 4,56 wounds to terminators, over 40% improvement - which is also true against normal marines.

When getting charged, Talon does 5,19 wounds to Marines (20% improvement) and Drach'nyen does 4,12 wounds to terminators, again over 40% improvement.

If combat goes on more than one round Hatred wears off and Talon falls behind, but Drach'nyen still does 4,79 wounds to marines and 3,19 wounds to terminators. 11% improvement. Against guardsmen and eldar Drach'nyen's additional attacks give 6e Abaddon an advantage over his old self in every situation, even with no Hatred and Preferred Enemy to help him.

He is also 10 points cheaper, makes Chosen troops and projects his PE (Marines) as a 12'' bubble. We can conclude that the Gavdex version, who already was the strongest beatstick character in any MEQ codex in 4e or 5e, is inferior to the new Warmaster in both killing and army support.
