You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure. Returning home over 15 years later during an infiltration you found your family upon the brink of ruin and your father assassinated long ago. Having left home behind once more, you rejoined Lord Wilson's wolfpack in the frontier of Sector Corgus, faced the betrayal of your fellow Captain Morix, captured your first prize ship, and received a sizable portion of the world your wolfpack now calls home. Having assigned your sister Alica to Captain the captured prize ship and oversee your operations upon the Wolfpack's adopted 'home world', you embarked upon your first raid as a Captain of a proper wolfpack.

For just over four months your vessel stalked the Valkyria system, looking to gather your fellow Captains and then hunting prey. A ship from Brinica Prime was your victim, and you were shocked to find that the vessel's officers quarters was actually a terestial ship of sail within the voidship. Taking the flippant Lord Fulton and those present as your captives, your men assisted Edgar Oslo in capturing the ship's bridge in exchange for some kickbacks. The Royal Brinican Marines refused to yield the ship without a fight, however, and managed to inflict heavy casualties among the wolfpack's armsmen. In the bloody fighting, your veteran armswoman, Ana, was severely wounded. Chief of Medicae Orsola Magnus has managed to keep Ana stable, despite an inability to locate two cybernetic implants that she had hoped to locate for Ana's wounds. For now, Ana's fate is simply in the hands of the Emperor.

Along the way you narrowly avoided a collision with another Partisan-class raider among the system's second asteroid cluster, the other vessel's Captain invoking parlay for a short conversation before both ship pairs involved went upon their merry way toward piracy. Your augurs have been tracking Captain Ber's 'Faith Squadron', allegedly part of the 'Vectes Third Fleet', as it chased down what you believe to be a smaller warp-capable transport. While there is come confusion about a fleet from a neighboring sector's dead world operating in Corgus, your XO is certain that you could learn more by returning to or locating a knowledgeable person from Sector Deus.

You are Athena Alekto, Astropath Minoris and sole astropath in the employ of Captain Percius Aurex. Formerly part of an astropathic choir under Astropath Holger Malthe, you accepted Captain Aurex's invitation to join his crew after your master and the rest of the ship's command crew vanished upon the world of Kromvo, investigating the lack of communications from a group exploring ruins in the planet's mountains. Captain Aurex's ship captured the transport shockingly fast, and you were taken from your peers after being caught attempting to contact your master upon the world below. Since that time you've become used to the pirate vessel's crew, though you note that their kind treatment of you is still guarded and in many cases a lingering mistrust of your ability to sell them out is obvious.

The Emperor's light may have taken your eyes, but you trust that his plan for you included Captain Aurex, much as you trust in the sight granted to you in exchange for your eyes and the agony of the soul binding you were blessed with upon Holy Terra. With force of will you banish the memories of the event from your mind, though your arm screams in pain no matter what mantras or meditations you put toward the task. The pair of guards flanking the door to the prisoner's quarters nod as you approach, one opening the door to allow you passage. The prisoners don't seem phased by your entrance, and Captain Aurex appears to be too shocked by the male prisoner's words to notice you at this moment.

More importantly, however, is the last meal you'll be sharing with your sister Alica for the forseeable future. Alica, Synne, Elise, Father Enes and even Mrs. Leris are in attendance as Tes places a hearty steak before each of you. "The beast felled by Captain Aurex, served with a selection of greens and what Miss Magnus identifies as a relative of yams." Tes smiles as she places the sixth plate beside you and looks to Mrs. Leris. "I've something special for the expecting, if you'll give me a moment." In a moment she returns from the sanctum of her kitchen with what looks more like a selection of snacks than a proper meal. "Miss Magnus assisted me in selecting what foods were available and would provide the nutrition you would require. I've even concealed a serving of nutrient paste within it."

Father Enes blesses the fine meal in the Emperor's light, pushing his spectacles back to their proper place upon his nose at it's completion. "Now let us eat."

Emperor preserve your mind if you think too hard upon that subject.

Having collected one of the more warmly dressed armsmen from your party, you set out to follow one of the sets of tracks left by a pair of your men, the snow quickly reaching up to your knee and slowing your search. Of the three possible tracks, you decided to follow the one that seemed to host a rough approximation of your Master-At-Arms' body beside it, the idea of Keller falling flat on his face most amusing and helping you ignore the cold air.

"Mr Lorisit couldn't be far, Captain Aurex. The snow wasn't too kind to his movements, and it doesn't help that he is more at home in a voidship to begin with." The armsman behind you grips your arm as you nearly lose your footing upon a hidden root, keeping you upright. "One of the others should be firing a lasgun back at camp, soon. Mr Lorisit said it would be the signal for everyone to retrace their steps." Looking at the snow and the path you follow through it, he grins. "Even a voidborn can't get too lost with these trails."

Someone soft and pleasantly warm presses more tightly against your side as you stir, your arm quite disinclined to move from the warm body that it has captured and holds beside you. You vaguely recall the flirty smile upon Tes' lips as she accepted your invitation to share body heat last night, the cave your party had claimed for shelter and built a fire within offering only so much protection from the driving snow. Unwilling to risk exposing your luxuriously warm side to the cold that lingers upon the rest of your body, you keep your eyes closed and listen to the sounds surrounding you: the intermittent pops and cracks of the fire, a pair of indistinct voices, a few footsteps, and finally the absence of the vicious, howling wind that threatened to keep you up last night. Or at least you think it was last night and that this is morning; there isn't exactly a bright ray of light burning at your eyelids.

Tes sits awkwardly off to the side of the table, her flirtations with Hariso ceased after your counter offer for his information wiped the pleasant smile from his face.

"I found this when I went to soak my feet in the river" he says, rolling a small golden nugget between his fingers. "I trust you won't mind a few of my people assisting your operation when you've begun digging? Not that I don't trust you, Aurex." Returning home over 15 years later during an infiltration you found your family upon the brink of ruin and your father assassinated long ago. It was a simple matter to convince two of your sisters to leave with you, though you never quite expected this...

"I'll do it."

You look toward your sister. "You'll what?"

"I'll Captain the transport. You need your officers to run your ship, and you need someone you can trust in command of the vessel" states Alica in a matter-of-fact tone. She even has her arms crossed, as if the matter were settled simply by her words alone.

"We'll also need to leave people with the skills to extract the minerals responsible for the anomaly, and a transport is slow enough with a full crew. A skeleton crew may not be able to actually escape the system if any sort of chase is given" adds Elise.

"Well we'll cripple both vessels if we attempt to even the crews out" you sigh. "I can't spare any officers to assist you, Alica, but I can spare some armsmen to help you keep order over what crew you'll have."

Alica grins at your approval. "Give me the Rockhounds and Company Two and I'll take care of everything on this end."

You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure and to escape your status as a political pawn. Wait, no. That might not be the truth. Your father's letter to you, the son he believed dead and lost, may force you to reevaluate that view you've held onto for over half of your life. Emperor willing, you'll never actually have to do so without a drink nearby.

Having set the gears in motion for your XO to handle the post-conquest issues of your first prize ship, you made the short lighter hop over to the wolfpack leader's cruiser-sized transport ship to face Lord Wilson and your failure to capture or destroy the traitorous Captain Morix's ship nearly a year ago. Leaving out the unsavory details such as allowing Morix to escape past you without resistance and your purposely delayed chase of her vessel, you turned the conversation to your latest prize and the circumstances that led to its speedy capture. Lord Wilson lamented the loss of Erwin Estiban, his assigned handler for you and your ship, but shared that the young man expected you'd be a great pirate and that Wilson would need to watch his back once you 'hit your stride'.

The burn of alcohol masks the twinge you feel for allowing Erwin's killers to pass you uncontested, Lord Wilson offering a toast to Erwin. "I'll miss that funny accent of his, even if he turned it on and off at random."

"Yeah."

Emperor willing, you'll never actually have to do so without a drink nearby.

After your failure to stop a traitorous Captain of your wolfpack from escaping, you chose to return only with a prize in tow. To that end, you spent nearly a year of travel , though only weeks to your crew, hunting for a target. In the system that you now know to be called 'Valkyria' you ambushed a transport in orbit of the system's outer planet, your own crew overwhelming the target and causing the crew to surrender in less than an hour. Quickly discovering that the ship's Captain and senior officers were upon the planet's surface, you beat a hasty retreat for fear that they might transmit a distress call that would bring other ships in the system after your lone vessel.

>> No.29684512 [View]

The journey to the system's edge is dominated by the crew of your prize consigning their fallen to the void, Mr Wern reportedly attending the small ceremonies and reciting a prayer to the Emperor. Even before you've managed to depart orbit the officers and crew upon the planet fail their first vox check-in, and you wonder if they somehow received a warning of the events that transpired in orbit. Your men report that only lesser astropaths were aboard the vessel when you took it, and one does confess that she sent a warning to her master upon the world, but denies receiving a response. The chief navigator, lesser navigators, and the Navitas House's serfs have been taken mostly intact, thanks to the quick surrender your crew forced. More interesting is that you've also captured over 300 of the Omnissiah's adepts and priests; the remaining leader among them seems to be a priest of Artisan rank.

Elise sends you a final message before your ships enter the warp, and you can almost feel her grin. "We're almost through the protective encryption on the ship's navigation records. Should have access to them by the time we're back at Wilson's Refuge. Oh, and when we get there you've got to come and see what is actually on this ship. There is a damned series of gardens and trees running nearly half it's length that I'll be enjoying."

You make a note to actually find out about things of that nature in the future, but you also find a bit of comfort in the heavier armament and higher speed of your merchant-raider as your ships prepare for warp travel. The familiar sound of alarms mixing with the grind of massive shutters sealing your ship's openings is almost comforting, though you still feel the fear of your first warp journey lingering within your soul.

You should really have a talk with your younger sister Synne about, well, ever-

"All hands brace for impact!" Yells Miss Eberhardt. Someone has the sense to sound the collision alarm a moment before your ship's prow scrapes along the port flank of your target. The sound is deafening and terrible, and you're certain that a multi-meter section of a hooded statue just went flying past the bridge. Eventually the ship's agony ends and your ship's defensive turrets begin to fill the void with a mixture of las-beams, munitions and explosions as they attempt to disable the enemy's turrets and cause enough chaos for your armsmen and crew to swarm into the target ship.

Keller's voice carries across the voxnet with a whoop. "Alright boys, prepare to board!"

For a moment, you're left to wonder what life had been like if you'd stayed home all those years ago. Would you have found yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife? Perhaps you'd be wondering how you'd gotten there, and what days might have brought if you'd run away all those years ago.

"Captain?" asks Miss Eberhardt, your XO giving you a questioning look while the rest of the bridge crew gives you cautious glances.

"All hands, begin boarding action!"

While on a mission for your wolfpack, you returned home under the name of a man you killed, revealing yourself to your sisters Alica and Synne before you added them to your pirate crew. Along with your fellow pirate Captain Morix, you completed your mission to secure navigational data and joined a convoy heading to your wolfpack's ultimate goal: Sector Corgus. Unfortunately, your reunion with Lord Wilson's wolfpack at the humbly named 'Wilson's Refuge' would not be the respite you'd planned. Having been separated from Captain Morix during warp travel, you were reunited with your fellow Captain at 'Wilson's Refuge'; only to find her soon fighting her way through Lord Wilson's ship instead of attending a Captain's gathering upon the world below. You were nearly slain in the confusion, saved only by Lord Wilson's man Erwin Estiban throwing himself into your place, but the presence of Morix's family as she liberated them from imprisonment by Lord Wilson struck something within you, and you let her pass uncontested before poor Erwin's blood had even cooled. Even so, you couldn't bring yourself to leave his corpse in the blast of a bomb Morix's men had planted, and you carried him clear as she made her escape.

"Look out!"
Erwin Estiban cries out, throwing himself into your side a moment before his body is wracked by lasgun fire, his humble but professional choice of clothing offering no protection as his flesh boils and burns. You recall an argument from long ago, two of the armsmen in your squad debating if las weapons caused flesh to boil and explode or simply seared it into vapor; you reckon they were both right. Even as poor E's body falls upon the cold deck, Morix's voice echos along the metallic bulkheads.

In a moment her men are moving past, escorting an aged couple and a younger man past as Morix offers you a hand up. "You could come with me, Percius. He'd vouch for you, too. No need to explain why you let me go, no more worrying when the Navy will catch up with us and put us all to the sword." The faces of her family linger in your mind, your own sisters suddenly moving with them. The edges of Aquila tattoos peek up from the collars of the armsmen protecting them remind you of Gerard, and soon his face is among their number.

The look of rejection upon Morix's face confuses you, her head turning away to hide the scar that now dominates the left side of her face. Your eyes drift down to poor Erwin as she tells you that someone else will be disappointed, they liked you. One of her men, a face from your previous visit to her ship, asks if he should end your life; No, killing a friend is bad luck. Get out, a bomb left behind them. Who did she say will be disappointed?

The frontier is effectively lawless, and brave souls venture farther from the Imperium's weak hold upon the sector. Lord Wilson was correct to call such a place a "Pirate's paradise".

Luck wasn't with you during the journey into Corgus through the passage known as 'The Corridor', your ship separated from both your partner vessel and the convoy you both accompanied. Rather worrying, you came across a beacon from the convoy informing several Captains, Morix and yourself among them, that the convoy had moved on without them. Navigator Erin Veritas and yourself had a minor altercation after you ordered her to bring your vessel toward a space hulk in the warp, though you were content to have a chat with her upon the subject of command after she'd led your vessel to your original destination. Nearly a year and a half had passed in the materium by the time your ship arrived at the convoy's destination, Celentis, finding your elder sister Selenti commanding a transport vessel in the name of the Celentis Dynasty. Though Alica used the shock of her presence to negotiate a favorable resupply for your ship, a small family dinner quickly went sour as you dropped the use of your alias. "You're an idiot, Percius. Throwing your name around after what you did in Deus. If you ever return to this system, I'll give the order to destroy your vessel personally. Now get off my ship before I change my mind."

You are Percius Aurex, Captain of a raider-class pirate vessel. Formerly the 14th son of a noble family, you fled that life in search of adventure and to escape your status as a political pawn. Having returned to Sector Paxia under an assumed name and with your fellow pirate Captain Morix, you found your family upon the brink of ruin. Taking your elder sister Alica and younger sister Synne into your crew, you set about obtaining the knowledge of the passage between Sectors Paxia and Corgus, a mission from the wolfpack's leader you'd volunteered for. Chancing upon a Lord Commissar at a bar, your decision to keep the late Captain Menexel's journals allowed you to share tales of the Third Ionian Crusade with the Lord Commissar, gaining you limited access to the Imperial Navy's information. After acquiring some scraps of another wolfpack's demise from the Navy, you found yourself with a chance to join a Navy convoy into Corgus. Obtaining the charts required to complete your mission, you turned your vessel over to the Chief Navigator Erin Veritas and braced for an expected year-long trip according to the galaxy.

Alarm klaxons blare, rousing you from yet another foray into Captain Menexel's journals. Your quarters buck violently, nearly throwing you from the mag-locked chair and desk. The cryptex your father left to you rolls loudly across your desk, nearly falling to the floor before your hand grasps it firmly. Returning the item to the box it was gifted in and securing it within the desk, you head for the bridge. Your officers are already at their stations, Keller in the poorest state of dress with only a pair of pants worn. Must be another one of his Sly Marbo days.
