Rumors abound that we'll see the new Space Marine codex this fall, so I was curious to know what things /tg/ thinks need updating. A large number of folks have been thinking that TH/SS Terminators need a points increase, slight changes to Land Speeder Storms, etc. etc.

Personally, I think the Thunderfire Cannon will see a change to its rules, a points increase, or both; it's just too good right now to only cost 100 points.

Sternguard Veterans will likely see a change, as spamming Hellfire rounds the entire game makes them super-powerful. Not broken, but we could see a change to how their Special Issue Ammunition rule works. Maybe points upgrades on a per model basis for the different types of ammo.

Regarding Terminators I could see them going the route of Blood Angels, and making the upgrade to a TH/SS a 5 point one.

Anything else that you guys think needs changing/boosting/nerfing?

How do you think GW will differentiate the main C;SM chapters in 6th ed?
By main C:SM chapters, I mean Ultras, IF's, CF's, Salamanders, White Scars, Raven Guard.
What would you like to see?

What the fuck is with this piece of shit?
DA get all of this shit but with more customization and half the price. The special characters are nearly all utter ass and there's no way to customize chapters other than Salamanders.
Seriously, what the fuck? Update when?

I am designing a 1500 point Tau army with Space Marine allies and I am having trouble configuring it to be able to fight armored infantry. I am looking to the Space Marine section for supplying most of that capability.

The space marine allies should supply the forward sections of the army. I decided on a Chaplain with jet pack, two five-man tactical squads with Razorbacks, a ten-man jump pack assault squad, and a five-man devastator squad with four missile launchers to be placed with the force quad-gun. However I do not know how to add more anti-heavy infantry capability. Do I give all the sergeants power weapons, or should the tac squads get combi-plasmas? Should I drop a Tau anti-tank unit to give the Razorbacks lascannons and twin-linked plasma rifles? Are plasma pistols ever a good idea? Please halp.

Flash Fact: Fluff-wise, marine power armor is only a 5+, as per exhibit A. I'd say we got this if they don't have their orbitals.

99% reliable troops.
Razorbacks that aren't 300 points each.
Lots and lots of armor everywhere.
Nullzone.
Relicblades.
2+ armor save on bosses.
Hammernators for cheap.
Drop pods that take 12 dudes.
Land raiders that take 12 dudes.
Really cheap rhinos.
Bikes as troops.
Ironclads.
Shooty dreads almost everywhere.
Combat tactics.
Twin-linked for every gun that matters.

Shall I go on?

This was supposed to be codex: ultramarines, but Jervis decided there wasn't enough money to make yet one more book, so Ward was ordered to crowbar more stuff, thus making it the new codex: space marines.

It is written from the ultrasmurf's point of view, and they are awesome, the best of the best, lose never, and rar all over the galaxy, just like it is for all the other armybooks, ever. Because it's from their point of view.

You should be glad Ward managed to cram as much stuff in there as he did. If he hadn't, your iron hands, silverskulls, white scars, mentors, and other chapters not widely liked by the studio would be like sisters of battle right now.

Everybody took the 'no drop pod' drawback, 'only one bike squad'/'no allies' drawback, and tagged that with two of the following.

Counter-attack and true grit on the whole army.
Furious charge on all taticals and assault marines.
Double special weapons.
Devastators in the elite slot, with infiltrate and tank hunters.
More venerable dreads.
Infiltrate for the whole army (gamebreaker in 4th edition).
One extra turn, no matter what.

Essentially, the system didn't accomplish its intended role.
It was meant to aid in diversity, but when you let people pick whatever they want, provided they take drawbacks that aren't truly drawbacks (bikes sucked hard, vehicles sucked hard, drop pods sucked harder), you've got a problem.

So it was dropped, and GW wisely decided to make all 5th edition marine books actually different in playstyle instead.

Uses stormbolters as their small-arms, everybody is trained and modified to wear terminator armor on a daily basis, psychic mastery, sorcery, magical weapons are standard-issue, has what's essentially 8 chaptermasters and one super chaptermaster lording it over them, two 'special' sub-companies in the paladins and purifiers...

Yeah, sounds totally like a codex chapter to me, guys.

>Calgar achieved great success in the early days of the campaign, buying time with blood for his Battle-Brothers to the north and south. However, the Tyranids kept coming. In a final climactic battle on Cold Steel Ridge, the Ultramarines rearguard were brutalised by the Tyranid horde and Calgar himself gravely wounded. Knowing that to remain planetside was to doom his followers to wasteful death, Calgar withdrew to the orbiting Battle Barge Octavius. Refusing all but the most vital medical attention, the Master of Macragge took command of the fleet, and sought a way to save his world from certain destruction.

>Within this edifice is the great marble throne of Roboute Guilliman, and upon that throne sits a regal corpse. Though the best part of ten thousand years have passed since his death, the Primarch's body is perfectly preserved. Even his death wounds are visible upon his throat. Everything encompassed by the field is trapped in time and can neither change nor decay.

p. 99:

Power Weapon
A power weapon (typically a sword or axe, but sometimes a glaive, halberd or mace) is sheathed in the lethal haze of a disruptive energy field, capable of tearing through all manner of materials with ease.

See the Assault Phase chapter of the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook for details of using power weapons.

On the outskirts of the Danorra system lies the scarred and lifeless planet of Safehold. It was here that the Astral Knights Chapter made the ultimate sacrifice to halt the onslaught of the Necron World Engine, and it is here, in the dead heart of the Battle Barge Tempestus, that a shrine was raised in their memory. Seven hundred and seventy-two arbalstone statues stand silent vigil amongst the ruined flagship, one for each fallen Battle-Brother of the Astral Knights. Beyond the wreckage, a score of living guardians patrol the dusty landscape, their eyes ever alert for scavengers whose presence continues to mar the sacred site. These are Space Marines, Battle-Brothers from a dozen disparate Chapters standing as one out of respect to the fallen.

The World Engine's arrival in the Vidar sub-sector took the Imperium completely by surprise. Even now it is unknown if the World Engine was a Necron Tombworld mobilised by arcane technology, or merely a starship of planetary proportions constructed in the darkness between the stars. By the time the World Engine's gauss projectors had scoured all life from the agrarian worlds of Gaios Prime and Gaios Tertio, all speculation as to its origins was abandoned - only its demise mattered.

>878.M41 Chaos pirates, led by the Daemon Prince M'kar the Reborn, claim several uninhabited worlds on the borders of Ultramar. In a decisive battle in the Halamar Rift, Captain Sicarius destroys much of the pirate fleet, although M'kar the Reborn escapes into the Warp.

>935.M41 A daemonic horde under the direction of M'kar the Reborn seizes control of the star fort Indomitable in Calth's outer orbit. Under the command of Marneus Calgar, Terminators from the Ultramarines 1st Company board the star fort. M'kar is slain by the hand of Lord Macragge, who tears the upstart Daemon Prince limb from limb.

>854999.M41 Ultramar comes under renewed assault from the foces of Chaos. M'kar the Reborn, clad in mortal flesh once again, leads the onslaught against Talassar. Other warlords attack Calth, Espandor and Tarentus. Marneus Calgar recalls all Ultramarines forces to defend Ultramar, dispatching a reinforced Battle Company to each threatened planet. Calgar himself accompanies the 2nd Company to defend Talassar, determined to slay M'kar a hundred times over if need be.

Anyone have M'Kar's latest failure in the Blood Angels Codex?
