Strategy: Swarmlord surrounded by hormagaunts will push forward with a venomthrope and two Tyrannofexes, keeping both of them in play and having a nice 3+ cover save from the venomthrope, in addition to automatic look-out-sirs. Flyrant will harass enemy flyers and will be my mobile mid-to-backfield synapse, not using the Flyrant as an aggressive attacker, more like a mid-field buffer that can deal with any deepstriking or flying surprises my opponent throws at me. Devilgaunts and Broodlord brood will collect objectives while the Tervigon with it's nice 18-24" synapse keeps them under control, likely with itself hiding in cover with the second venomthrope. Zoanthropes will be my primary anti-tank while also serving as mid-field synapse, just in case the tervigon dies. Biovores will chill in a ruin with the tervigon and drop spores everywhere.

Alright, so I need your guys' help.

I'm in a league with escalation, starting this week at 1k points. Each participant gets a special character to be in every army list, to represent the player. I'm using Tyranids led by the Swarmlord(pic related).

My first matchup will be against a Dark Eldar player, who used to be Tyranids but after realizing that they suck switched armies. He tends to run lots of Raiders and Venoms. My past experience versus Dark Eldar has been failure due to having to make a ton of saves against massed poisoned shooting from that sort of list. He also uses Hellions and Razorwings from time to time, which are easier to deal with for Tyranids than massed infantry in jabba skiffs.

How am I supposed to play this matchup? The honor of the swarm is at stake here, but Dark Eldar are favored as an army in their matchup against Tyranids. And I'm stuck with the slow Swarmlord taking up a quarter of my points.

He uses Night Shields; this rules out dakkafexes. Would a "flying circus" of a Flyrant and a couple harpies work? Ultimately, I just need to take down his skimmers, so that the Swarmlord can 'nom his stranded troops. Flyrant and harpies would be able to hit hard and fast, and keep up speed with his fastest units. Each shoots and blows up a different Venom each turn, basically. For troops, warriors perhaps, good at soaking up wounds? Maybe some outflanking gaunts?

Hey /tg/ I have a bunch of extra bits in my bits box and am in the converting mood. But I have no idea of any cool Tyranid conversions and 6e screwed over my one good original idea due to Tyranids having no allies (was gonna put those adrenal gland crab things over the heads of termies or something like that and play up a mind control angle).
Any good suggestions?

You sure are underestimating the Tyranids here. The 4 chaos gods haven't teamed up to kill the Tyranids yet so why would they do it now for this one world? No idea what Heroic Killings Blows are but I'm pretty sure Knights are going to have a much harder time killing Hive Tyrants than Space Marines, who already have a pretty hard time killing one. And shadow in the warp so magic isn't nearly as good. And lastly Tyranids eat their dead so Necromancers wouldn't have bodies to resurrect.

Some Instant Death immunity (the Swarmlord can be instant killed even) at least on MCs, hopefully something purchasable on warriors. Also, invuln saves somewhere besides Zoanthropes would be nice god-fucking-dammit.

T6 prevents high-strength weapons ID kills...but does shit-all against force weapons or coup de grace or etc.

Technomancer drew this rather fantastic piece, and God-Emperor of Mankind coloured it. It's the focal point of the Battle of Cold Steel Ridge, depicting Calgar moments away from being brutalised by the Swarmlord. Requested just because it's a lovely bit of fluff that deserved a bit of art to go along with it.
