Apart from the "creative" approach to mechanics, the peculiar method of teaching, ducking under horizontal waist-level cuts, parries that very carefully guide the enemy's weapons to your knuckles, bare-arm-edge-deflection, ridiculous demands on your sense of distance and timing and a "partner" who looks, well, not entirely enthusiastic.

>having less than 90 degrees of curve
How pathetic. I bet you can't even draw cut.

Ah. Just a slight unevenness in the metal. Shiny surfaces under direct light will get some pretty dramatic contrast with the slightest change in alignment.

The radically curved sword you have been waiting for.

The sabre-like dao is, but the Chinese had straight dao before that. This one's Han dynasty I think.

Curved swords might perhaps add a slicing component to the cut on their own? This would help make up for not so great cutting technique. They can also thrust around things, and deflect thrusts simply by twisting around their lengthwise axis.

Straight swords get from A to B with the least amount of fuss, and are probably the most intuitive to thrust with, and might allow a bit of extra force.

A better swordsman could probably think of more. Given the degree of variation in how deeply swords curve, it might be that the question isn't so much straight or curved as straight or slightly curved or medium curve or...

Pic: more dress accessory than weapon I'd guess.
