It's time for me to dump my Blood Ravens folder.

Starting with why Tarkus should have been the canon traitor. The blighted bolter and blighted power armor were in the original Dawn of War 2. Even then the blighted bolter was Tarkus-only. (Obviously the armor didn't have the Purity rating until Chaos Rising, but otherwise its stats were the same.)
No other character had equipment only they could use that also descended into Chaos. Only Tarkus.
Aboard the Judgement of Carrion, Tarkus babbles about how its his bolter and none other would do. Clearly he's used it according to the story.

Ignoring the in-game evidence, though, it just makes sense that the most pure-seeming space marine in the Chapter would fall to Chaos, because that preserves the hurr-durr grimdark and makes it seem as if you cannot trust anyone. It fits 40k.

But, well, no, apparently it was just Avitus, hater of traitors in the first place, who just got fed up with stuff and decided to shoot everything. I mean, shoot, Cyrus's explanations for going traitor make a lot of sense. (Boreale was a freakin' idiot, Thule is dumb, Angelos is dumb -- I'm a teacher, I KNOW things, and we're supposed to follow these idiot captains?)

>Secondly, has anyone compiled a list of the wargear from DoW?
No, but people have compiled a list of the wargear from DoW 2.

Seriously OP this took 10 seconds.

Tarkus should have been the canon traitor.

He was set up to be the traitor in the Chaos rising (He has a full Chaos gear set dedicated for him!).

I was surprised when it turned out to be Avitus. It came out of no where.

It was bullcrap that Tarkus was not the canon traitor, when he was the only person in DoW 2 and Chaos Rising to get his own specific wargear DETAILING his descent into Chaos.

Haha

Get all of DoW 2. Obviously for multiplayer you'll only play Retribution, but for story and figuring out what all the Blood Magpie business is, get all three.

Who the traitor should have been was very obvious.
Sucks that it was Avitus. It was most likely due to some screw-up with rehiring the voice actors. Usually is.

I am glad the Ancient was NOT Boreale. Boreale is dead, dead, dead.

It was confirmed that the Blood Ravens lost in Kaurava. If Boreale was alive, after seeing that ending where he was shot to crap and really dead, he would've had to have been revived with some warp trickery. They can justify that for Eliphas, since although he definitely died in DC, he was brought back. Boreale, however, is not chaos and nobody wants him alive anyway.

All that aside, I think Tarkus should have been the canont traitor, not Avitus. Tarkus's fall was outlined in DoW 2, and in my view, his traitorship made the most sense. (Cyrus's came second.) Tarkus wanted the chapter to be great again, at full strength, so he bargained with daemons to do it. That perfectly justifies the "I won't be privy to the murder of fellow Blood Ravens" line you hear early on in Chaos Rising, too, because killing Blood Ravens is the opposite of what Tarkus wants, Chaos or no. He and Thule were also the ones who pushed hardest (as in, actually had dialogue concerning) recovering all the gene-seed from the Judgement of Carrion.

Finally, Tarkus was the only one with items outlining his fall to Chaos!
During the space hulk missions, as time wears away at your sanity, Tarkus gibbers about his bolter and how "none other will do."

No, only the things you'll hear from completing or not completing certain objectives. Destroying the statue in the Eldar avatar/tank hunting mission, for example, or letting Meridian fall to Chaos and hearing the regular marine report on that.

And you reminded me, I have one more thing to dump.

No.

Tarkus canon traitor.

And with that, I'm going off 4chan until I play through all the campaigns.

Hah, no. I don't have the time or patience for that. I'm sure there's a way to just mod-unlock it all.

Speaking of that, though, I finally got what I came for. Picture finished.
