This EXACT SAME ARGUMENT came up with CSM. It was never FAQ'd, and the general agreement was that all that wording means is that you must swap at a 1:1 ratio.

Don't start this shit again. You're like six months late to the party.

We've had scans since, like, yesterday.

Are you a bad enough dude to find them?

I really, really hate the current style of 40k books.
They are bloated with artwork, full of fluff and the same pictures of minis from 10 years ago. While I do like to look at that sort of thing from time to time, it is very inconvenient for them to put half the rules in the front, a big lump of fluff in the middle, then the other half of rules in the back.
I really miss the 3rd edition books, they seemed to have a great fluff:crunch ratio.
Has anyone made condensed versions of the books that are easier to read and only 1/4 the size? If not I might just have to do it myself so I can study the books and play games.

Also what does "WYSIWYG" mean, it's one of the rules on the site for entering the competition, not that I plan to, I've just never heard it before.

Yeah but why? If you're after hot Xeno-on-Human action, gotta hit up the Post Heresy stuff. That's when half of them show up. Pre-heresy, only Orcs and Eldar are ever a thing.

And Orcs...Would be kind of boring. These books focus on Transhumanism a WHOLE lot more than most of the 40k stuff, and as such, you need good comparisons to the Spess Mehrens. New, expendable aliens can be their own super soldiers, far flung human colonies the same. Eldar and Orcs don't fit the themes quite as well.

But...They do show up. In First Heretic, they have some Orc vs Marine stuff. And the Eldar do get raped by Fulgrim.

yay?

So I've always liked the Warhammer 40k universe, I was introduced to it by my friend when he gave me the Space Marine game as a gift on steam. Since then I've tried to learn more about it. I've bought all the Dawn of War franchise and have been playing them.

Id like to get involved with the table top game, the thing is I dont really know how to start up, along with living in an ass backwards rural community where im pretty much the only person that even knows what 40k is. Is there any good ways to get a nice army going and finding people to game with, or maybe a way I can play an online version of the game with my internet friends?

1. Space Marines, like people, are not all cut from the same cloth. Some have a natural aptitude towards leadership. Some are better leaders and exemplars, some as mentors. Some people make terrible generals but great captains, and they'll never rise above captain. Not because they can't lead, but because their style of leadership is more suited to that role.

Veteran sergeants are really more of a tactical leader/mentor than a strategic commander, which often falls to captains. Some might never get the pinache for higher command. Some might just outright refuse it because they don't want the responsibility.

2.) Well they'd really have to be, wouldn't they? They can't just be sending every chapter off to deal with every request for aid they get, they'd be stretched too thin. And it's often stated that a single Space Marine is worth multitudes of regular soldiers (and rightly so). Sometimes you only need a squad to accomplish a goal, like maybe storming a palace or HQ and putting bolt shells in all the high command of a rebellion. There's a ton of examples of this in the fluff (In fact I think most space marine stories outside the Heresy are squad level).

3) They aren't? Titan's have roughly the firepower of an armored company or more, depending on the class. One can wipe out a whole damn army pretty fast. This is shown in the lore and the table top pretty well. If you mean the lackluster performance of the Titan in Space Marine specifically (Imma chargin ma lazer! Imma firin ma lazer! Ok im done), well that's because they basically blow the damn thing out by having it process way more energy than it's designed for. Like starship level power. It's gonna break something.

/b/ introduced me to /tg/.

I posted a thread one day bitching about GW and someone said "This isn't /tg/". To which I thought "Is that a board about warhammer? Surely not?"

I have not yet left. Thank you, /b/.
