A wandering Tau commander was flying around one day, when he saw a fight between Kabals on a nameless world in a backwater Imperial sector. Thinking it would be fun, he decided to help one side. The Archon, in return, decided to help the Tau as long as it was worth it to him.

With the Charisma of the Tau, and the Business Savvy of the Dark Eldar, their business flourished. The Tau and generations of his family provided a stable portal from which to raid realspace and a 'legitimate front', and the Dark Eldar provided a battlefield role the Tau was critically lacking, and cleaned up the Tau's messes on the downlow.

Much later, a Techmarine was sent to sabotage the two, but due to being trained wrong as a joke forgot his mission in five minutes. But this is all ancient history...

>Some sound to set the mood

As many of you know, a week or so ago I announced my next game - Exelion, a short OVA (eight or so episodes) for Rogue Trader I will run around September or so for players from /tg/. In this game, the players are Tau and Dark Eldar, a team of deniable assets who are tasked with completing a project of monumental importance. Someone compared it to Shadowrun, though I have never played that game.

Yes, Tau and Dark Eldar. While there are two fully-functional Dark Eldar careers, there are no Tau. So I made three. Unlike my normal methods, I am posting them for alpha testing, feedback, and balance concerns. They are being internally balanced amongst each other primarily, and then adjusted compared to the other available careers of Rogue Trader. I will be posting V3 of my notes and the changelog momentarily, which includes the Tau Cadre Fireblade, Tau Pathfinder, Tau Combat Engineer, Dark Eldar Kabalite Warrior, and Dark Eldar Wych.

I encourage everyone to look at them, and point out any errors / design flaws / logic failures.

I haven't even named this next campaign, I've kept it under the codename "Exelion OVA."

For those who enjoy hearing me talk of my games (all five of you), you will remember the House of Korst'la, the alliance between a family of Tau and the Archon of a Dark Eldar Kabal. Together, they hold Project Cave Scraps, without the Inquisition knowing.

Simply put, this is a mini-campaign. I expect it to run 8 episodes or so, with spots for 4-5 players (I haven't decided). It will be open to all of you, but here's the thing.

"I remember when he was just a baby," muses Korst'la, "We were out for a walk, when I put him down to chat up some of the Strike Wyches. A few hours later, I realized I forgot where I put him."
"Here we go..." sighs Morty.
"I discovered that he crawled into the Wych Middens. They cooed over him for a few seconds, and then the lead Succubus went for a long pass," laughs Korst'la proudly, "Turns out he had perfect aerodynamics. He won them the Blood Bowl that year. He is truly my son."
"How are you a parent?" asks Morty.
"Anyway, pardner, in recognition of your years of service, and helping out both of my sons, I'd like to invite you to a fun filled day at the races. Khodexus and I are holding them on Ix," says Korst'la, "Who knows? If you enter and win, you might even start paying off that debt."
Korst'la laughs, while Morty can only stare forward.
"How much is the prize?" asks Morty.
"Enough to put a small dent in the number," explains Korst'la.
"Fine. We'll be there," states Morty.
"Great!" exclaims Korst'la, "Though most of it will be Khodexus's contemporaries, we're hosting a number of guests, from Spess Mehreens to Planetary Governors! The Black Panthers will be watching to make sure nothing gets out of hand. All part of the charter."
Korst'la snaps his fingers, and a small lizard with a gun on its neck appears.
"Deliver this to Khodexus, they're coming." says Korst'la.
"That's new," says Morty, pointing at the Loxatl.
"A new codex brings new things," explains Korst'la, "See you on Ix!"

As Korst'la leaves, Morty suddenly realizes something.

"Hey, how did you get he-"

Korst'la is gone.

I have the House of Korst'la - the alliance of a family of Tau and a Dark Eldar Kabal, to regard females and acquire currency. It guest-stars a techmarine of the Black Panthers chapter. Barely 'sanctioned' by the Inquisition because they act as underworld information brokers, they travel in a battleship-turned-casino named Studio 69, and generally fuck around.

They show up in my RP games a lot, but I've never made DE allies for the tabletop because they would count as Desperate Allies, which would ruin my army due to penalties.

"Likewise." says Morty, "Is that your ship?"
"Indeed," says Korst'la, "I've heard they found some interesting stuff here, and I had to see for myself. Now that I've inherited Father's Battlesuit, I think everything is going swimmingly at for me."
Silence.
"I said, Swimmingly for me!"
Silence.
"Darnell!" yells Korst'la.
A nearby Dark Eldar wordlessly pokes a crowd of women.
"YAY, KORST'LA!" they yell.
"Personal cheerleaders?" asks Velm.
"Wait, if you inherited the battlesuit, is Korst'la dead?" asks Morty.
"No, he's with Khodexus and Jamal, getting ready to enjoy his retirement," replies Korst'la, "He's been quite excited. He's close to unlocking the Ubersuit."
"Ubersuit?" asks Kim.
"My great grandfather, with the help of a Deathwatch Kill Team, stole a prototype battlesuit. For three generations, it's been password protected. Now we're getting close to unlocking it," explains Korst'la, "If he sees sense, he'll leave everything to me, and not my idiot sister. It will be run flawlessly."
"Ah..." says Velm, her mind spinning with inter-House politics.

"So, you're here treasure hunting?" asks Kim.
"Pretty much," replies Korst'la, "I guess this puts us in competition! I mean, why else would you have come?"
"Yeah, treasure, I agree." says Kim.
"Right." adds Morty.
"Totally." continues Velm.
"Well, good luck to you." says Kim.
"Ha! We'll see," says Korst'la, "Maybe I'll leave some stuff for you. All right! Let's go!"

Korst'la and his cheering crew wander into the crowds.
"Is it just me, or does every member of his family have a Dark Eldar handler?" asks Velm.
"I'm pretty sure that's by design." notes Kim.

Continuing through the Marketplace, amongst the marching people, Velm sees something else - a Blue Light.

"Got a selection of good things on sale, stranger..."

The Tau Empire has begun its slow infiltration of the sector, by offering cheap consumer goods and advanced technology that lacks the requisite quota of skulls. The Inquisition has learned of this from one of their more successful informants - a sanctioned Tau who is allowed to run his illicit businesses, in return for information that can stop the encroachment of foul Xenos into the sector. The Target is the planetary governor / other high-ranking official, at a moment in time where he is hosting a meeting with Ethereals / Water Caste Diplomats. Nipping the problem at its root will be dangerous, but stop the encroachment.

The information is verified by other infil-traitors and checks out, but there's always that nagging doubt. Out of the many planets targeted by the Tau, this one was singled out specifically. If the Cell / Kill Team successfully complete their mission, what does the sanctioned xeno have to gain out of it all? What makes this world so special?

I'm starting to get tired and my ideas progressively shittier.

I have a Tau NPC in my games. Technically, an entire family of them.

The House of Korst'la has been sanctioned by the Inquisition (barely) because he gives them money and sells out any Tau / other Xenos attempts on the Sector.

As long as the House of Korst'la continues to fund what the Inquisition demands, they will let him continue to make money (they see the money as theirs by extension) and take only token potshots at him instead of full salvos.

While Korst'la (up to the 5th at the moment) is a shrewd businessman hampered by the fact that the blood needed for his brain is often sent elsewhere, his associates can be far worse...

But I suppose by Blueberry, you mean his female child, Saal'ata...

"We've been a large hindrance to Xahecatl, in attempts to keep ourselves alive," says Velm.
"Last time you said that, your Brotherhood was quite rude," says Dre, "We don't take kindly to that."
"I apologize for that," explains Velm, "We've just run into him several times, and none of the meetings were pleasant. I think our Warlord spoke...rashly."
The inquisitors think a moment.
"Exterminatus, while it would solve the problem, is an incredible waste of resources. We're willing to let you follow your little vendetta with Xahecatl," considers Doggfather.

"You know, it's funny," starts Korst'la, "My friends here-"
"Fuck you, xeno." interjects Dre, hand on his bolt pistol.
"...were originally going to give you the information that Inquisitor Diyemex's cell found." finishes Korst'la. "But your attitudes kind of turned them off to the whole thing."
"So, instead of GIVING you the information," continues Doggfather, "I propose a trade."
"Information for information," clarifies Dre, "What do you have that we can use?"
"What do you want?" posits Velm.
"What do you have?" repeats Dre.

Unfortunately, Velm has forgotten much of the information that she's collected, and finally rolls Logic, hoping for the 'answer.' I help her out with hints until she realizes they fought something they haven't for once.

Meanwhile, Ragebeard gets a message from Korst'la the 5th. It appears the Inquisition is gathering important people from around the sector to discuss the recent xenos activity plaguing Imperial worlds. While not on the list initially, Korst'la has paid enough bribes and pulled some strings to get the Brotherhood on the list. The coordinates given, oddly enough, show up as empty space in maps of the sector, leading to Ragebeard believing one of two things - it's a ship, or something's hidden.

"So what's the situation here?" asks Morty.
"Our hold on Deleator's been attacked," replies Brenner, "Something fought its way through our men and the natives."
"Any idea what?" asks Morty.
"Scattered reports say 'huge lizards.'" says Brenner, bringing up pict-casts on the hololith display.
"Lizards? It's probably that faggot Xahecatl." says Sung, trying to be edgy and cool.
"By the Ancestors..." says Ragebeard, "I want us loaded up and out now."
"Korst'la, do you know of anything like this?" asks Velm.
"Lizards? Not in the slightest." says Korst'la, "Are they worth a lot?"
"What about Khodexus? Does he know?" asks Ragebeard.
"Even if he knew, why would he tell you?" posits Korst'la.
"So why do you care?" asks Velm.
"We're just an investment to him. A businessman watches his annual returns." whispers Ragebeard.
"That, mainly," says Korst'la, slightly amused, "I wish you luck with your lizard problem. Or what's left of it once my son gets there."
"Your...son?" asks Ragebeard.
"Oh yes. A mighty fine Bounty Hunter, trained by Khodexus's best men." replies Korst'la.
"A bounty hunter?" says Morty, himself a bounty hunter, now alerted to competition.
"See you at Deleator, pardner..." says Korst'la, cutting channels.
