Elegan/tg/entlmen, I come to you with a dilemma. I want to make an SM army, but as for chapters, I am stuck on 3 that I want to make. The first is the Ultramarines. Reason is that they are supposedly the strongest warriors. And i respect that. Second is the Space Wolves. They are rebellious space vikings and my favorite animal in life happens to be a wolf. Finally, the Blood Ravens. As much as I try, I can't overlook how awesome they are. They beat back the Tyranids with just a few hundred space marines. So, can anyone give me any suggestions?

That's fine. But I think there's a very false assumption that playing a Space Marine means you can't explore a character with depth.

I get it, it's the tendency to avoid the mary sue style of gameplay. But this is really not a problem with a little bit of thought. Deathwatch marines are a fucking highly trained, specialized group of warriors. However, this means that they are going to be tested and put in situations that would make the average group of acolytes wilt in terror.

The goal is to try to adjust the challenge to meet the increased power of the group. There's no reason to stop playing DH when you reach Ascension-style ranks is there?

Each space marine comes with a major curse and flaw that he must reconcile with the fact that he is no longer in a familiar setting. He has been torn from his Chapter and dumped into an organization that he is bound by honor to serve until they deem his sacrifice appropriate. How does he view this? Does he resent this? Does he embrace this? How does he interact with his battle brothers? How about the inquisition?
How does he interact as an Astartes with the parties he meets? Guardsmen, Rogue traders, civilians will all have expectations and reactions to the Space Marines that aren't necessarily positive.

Their actions will have greater effect and greater consequences on the worlds around them, for better or even for worse.

Good GMing and a little bit of thought makes Space Marines just as dramatic as a subject to roleplay.

Hey /tg/ looking for some help.

I'm looking to gather a new 40k army. Currently play Tyranids. Have a shitload of bugs, and I love them. I will always play them. But my new apt. is much cheaper than my old one and I already budgeted for my old one. This means... the surplus is going to a new army.

Here's some I'm interested in:
1. Flesh Tearers army with lots of death company.

2. Mech "leafblower" IG with chimeras, medusas, manticores, and vendettas for maximum trolling.

3. A Vulkan Salamanders melta list.

What do you think /tg/? :\ What would you buy?

Thank you sir, this was exactly what I needed.

I think I may do salamanders.
Curious.. if you guys (anyone here) had to tier list these marines what order would you place them?

Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Black Templar, Salamanders (vanilla SM, perhaps with an emphasis on meltas, flamers, and maybe Vulkan)

So /tg/ I'm going to finally expand into a new 40k army and I'm torn between a few options. I have the means of acquiring any of these as well as painting them and an FLGS to play them.

Here's the options:
-Black Templar- Pure epicness. I'd go all out on the religious themes and iconography, probably make my own custom squad with a bit more red trim then the average BT. I also like the crusader and the Preferred enemy vow. Hesitations- are they still relevant? Do they compete compared to the newer space marine codices?

Space Wolves:
This one's actually lower on my list. The lack of actual wolf models is pretty shitty. I LOVE the viking themes, but hate the furry-ness. One perk is that they seem to be remarkably competitive.

Mech IG- A decent amount of valkyries, vetrans, etc. Basically a killer alpha strike list.

Salamanders SM: painted and with Vulkan.

Thoughts? If you were me, who would you choose? How competitive are these various options?

Hey /TG/ good news, I'm planning to start an SM army. However, I don't know which chapter I want to model it over. Even though the final decision is mine, I still want your input as I value your advice. So I was considering the Space Wolves because they seem like the kinda badass rebels that don't play by the book. The Ultramarines because they are the "Mightiest" of the SM chapters, though I hear some people think they are Mary Sueish. And the Blood Ravens as they seem to be about the only smart people in 40k who instead of throwing endless amount of forces at a hive fleet, actually try to find its weakness. Little help please?

I'm having a bit of a writer's block (novel, can't work past a certain part), so I want you guys to request writefaggotry. Like, specific scenarios. Figure it'll get the juices going or something.

So, gentlemen, what would you like to see?

ACCORDING TO CANON, SOMETHING AROUND LIKE TWO THIRDS OF SPACE MARINES ARE DIRECTLY DESCENDED FROM ULTRAMARINES GENESEED.

THUS, BITCHING ABOUT HOW GENERIC MOOK CHAPTERS WOULD BE MORE WILLING TO JOIN SOMETHING ULTRAMARINES ARE PARTICIPATING IN IS ENTIRELY INVALID.
