It snowed last night here in New York! That proves global warming isn't real!

>>global warming is contributed by man/man made
>> [that comic]

You can't just point to a cold winter and say it disproves 'global warming'. Hell, it's not even about getting warm in winter. It's about weather becoming more extreme due to the global average temps going up.

You do know half the globe isn't having winter, right?

This can mean actually worse winters due to what we call 'global warming'. I remember reading how England would get colder

'Global warming' is far from simple. And certainly you can't just pretend that man made factors aren't contributing to it at all just because a buncha big companies are making great profits from doing stuff that probably contribute to it.

You ever think that some junk science out there supporting continued pollution is just propaganda from people who want to continue business as usual, not matter the cost to the rest of the people on this planet?

I walked the same streets as that idiot and his psychopath brother. Found out one of them went to a fitness place near me.

That was a whole different thing.

I had cops street nearby shut down because someone saw an empty box for a pressure cooker or rice cooker among a buncha trash besides a building.

How the fuck is this state of paranoia where we're living in fear and jumping at our own shadow a healthy society?

Plus smuggling illegal fireworks from New Hampshire is a beloved tradition and sign of American freedom in MA. Fuck those two sons of bitches for abusing it and killing and hurting those people.

Meanwhile was at an electronics event at MIT and someone who was selling circuit boards and stuff was talking about it.

He said he knows people from Turkey and Syria. He said we should really get some fucking perspective because that stuff happens much more often with more higher causalities. He said the day we had our bombing in Boston, there were bombings somewhere over in the middle east, forget where he said, which killed more. Yet our government and the media blew this tragic event into a new national event, completely out of proportion and using America's biases to create a skewed story.

I went to high school during the Columbine shootings. I was sick of teachers and schools across the country being paranoid assholes expecting every kid in a trench coat to have bombs and guns.

Here we have a kid making a cheap RadioShack level LED clock and getting arrested.

Forget even the racism, I'm sick of schools being beds of paranoia and kids not being able to lug around a box of circuit boards without being thought to be terrorists.

This is my reaction to that school.

I avoid illegal drugs because they are often not well sourced. If I am gonna experiment, I want to know where it's coming from, the purity, the specific type. Hell, even legal drugs might not have the best kept supply chain.

With stuff like pot being legalized with dispensaries with various types, then I might try some.

What is it, the high THC, vs other canabanoids, in pot is what makes some anxious? I want the mellow blends that calms you, not the strains that made you paranoid.

This.
The whole point is that they're smaller objects out there.

There would have to have been a really fucked up improbable thing to have knocked a large plant out there.

I disected a rat with a girl I had a bit of a crush on. We didn't really flirt, but she seemed kinda interested overall at other times. There was a weird dynamic with the rat, like it was a pet or baby we were taking care of. It was odd. Even worse there was another girl in class who liked me but I thought of as more of a friend. Had teamed up with her for labs in a botany class. Shit. That was a weird year.

At least your prof spoke English. The TA heading up the lab portion of one chem class in college was a grad student from China. He was quiet and barely knew English. A friend was Chinese American and told me, "Hey. Don't look at me for help talking to him. I don't know Mandarin. Only Cantonese. I'm as lost as you."

The 'news' station totally takes the study's findings and then jumps to some really wild conclusions.

This department at University of Indiana Medical School seems to have been doing these same studies for over a decade.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/11/111130095251.htm
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/19/opinion/l-video-games-danger-ahead-451240.html

Hey. If you can get funding for your studies, might as well reel in the payday.

Of course, none of those studies really conclude anything concrete. Certain areas of the brain are active. As was pointed out in the /v/ thread by others, the same can be said of all media or even playing sports.

Behavioral sciences and the brain chemistry behind behavior.. well.. that's a tricky area. You can't just make direct connections between things. Having taken some neurobio courses and psychology courses in college, that shit's complex as fuck. There are so many factors affecting stuff.

For a study to make a clear direct connection between something like playing vidya games and violent behavior is insane. There are so many other psychological and neurological factors to look at.

>uni is a knowledge factory.
I thought universities were factories that handed out diplomas along with crippling amounts of debt.

Any actual knowledge you earn while getting that degree is tertiary.

>> No.7257595 [View]

Pretty much the findings were,

Violent games trigger the 'emotional centers' of your brain.
Non violent puzzle games trigger the 'logic centers' of your brain.

It is interesting... though pretty expected.

Games, like movies and books, allow us to expereience fictional events. They will trigger emotions and thoughts in us.

How this is news, I have no idea. Instead the 'journalists' bring up shooters like that Colorado theater one and that Scandinavian asshole who shots those kids... which I am pretty sure had nothing to do with video games.

They want to make a connection between the shooters and playing video games. Yet there are so many 'gamers' who don't go around shooting children. You might as well people argue who watch the ten o'clock news are prone to shooting up schools.

You can't just cherry pick one common activity some sick murderer does and say that one activity is dangerous and can cause people to kill.

You might as well get brain scans of people watching Fox news reports and see how that lights up their brain and then claim their emotional centers light up so it proves that Fox news reports trigger people into becoming killers.

This kinda reporting of random brain studies or any scientific study drives me.. crazy.

I first posted this over in /v/ after seeing this on a local news program.

Then I realized I should post it here to show how news media takes some study about brain chemistry and then starts making all kinds of crazy connections and jumps to sensationalized conclusions.

Deadly ash. Deadly sulfuric acid clouds. Geez.

Ya gotta face it. You're addicted to love.

>>4592884
It wasn't so much that as fapping.. which is totally now a scientific term.. -can- become addictive and these are the symptoms of whens someone is an addict. It's not like he's calling for an end to it. He's calling for awareness and self awareness of it. It'd be like claimg addict researcher are automatically calling for a ban on gambling, food, sex, alcohol because anyone that touches those automatically becomes a dependent burden on society. I totally didn't get that from this lecture.

>>4592929 I have these symptoms ,yet haven't fapped in 2 months. Could there be another cause of them or could i possible have all of them and just be a fluke
Well, you could still be in width drawl. Or, yeah, it could be another cause of depression. Everyone needs to be evaluated for their own problems. I think this guy is just suggested that internet porn addiction.. or even just internet browsing addiction in general.. is a cause of these symptoms that simply isn't even considered by most people. It's not always a cause or maybe not even a major cause.. but it's one no one has looked into until recent years so the people with it have been diagnosed with other causes instead of that.

And let's not forget that it's not always either / or. It could be a internet porn addiction on top of some other form of depression or ADD or social anxiety.

Then again, I always felt ADD was more a symptom cause by something else than a disease unto itself. Or at least it's diagnosed as just that because it's popular instead of another disorder. I remember reading somewhere about many bipolar kids were getting just an ADD diagnosis because it was the hot button topic instead of proper treatment for bipolar.

I always assumed chronic masturbation lead to stuff like this.
Almost want to connect raise in depression, ADHD, social anxiety, and hell.. some of the lack of men going out and finding good jobs and shit to internet porn.
Then again, can't blame the porn for guys not having self control.
