Sam Neill - Starred in Jurassic Park

The point is that not only does Carl Sagan narrate space documentaries, he directly contributes to many of the things IN those documentaries.

He published more than 600 scientific papers.

He pioneered exobiology and promoted the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI).

He was author, co-author, or editor of more than 20 books.

He worked as an adviser to NASA, where one of his duties included briefing the Apollo astronauts before their flights to the Moon.

Sagan contributed to many of the robotic spacecraft missions that explored the solar system, arranging experiments on many of the expeditions.

Sagan's contributions were central to the discovery of the high surface temperatures of the planet Venus.

As a visiting scientist to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he contributed to the first Mariner missions to Venus, working on the design and management of the project. Mariner 2 confirmed his conclusions on the surface conditions of Venus in 1962.

Sagan was among the first to hypothesize that Saturn's moon Titan might possess oceans of liquid compounds on its surface and that Jupiter's moon Europa might possess subsurface oceans of water.

Sagan also helped solve the mystery of the reddish haze seen on Titan, revealing that it is composed of complex organic molecules constantly raining down onto the moon's surface.

He further contributed insights regarding the atmospheres of Venus and Jupiter as well as seasonal changes on Mars. Sagan established that the atmosphere of Venus is extremely hot and dense with pressures increasing steadily all the way down to the surface.

"By request of Carl Sagan, NASA commanded the Voyager 1 spacecraft, having completed its primary mission and now leaving the Solar System, to turn its camera around and to take a photograph of Earth across a great expanse of space."

Carl also went to NASA about the idea of attaching a Plaque to the Pioneer 10 and 11 Spacecraft.

The Pioneer spacecraft were the first human-built objects to leave the solar system.

Come on is the rest of the world even trying?

In all seriousness what are some good European Space Documentaries that are on Par to U.S. ones?

"The first day or so, we all pointed to our countries. The third or fourth day, we were pointing to our continents. By the fifth day, we were aware of only one Earth." - Prince Sultan Bin Salmon Al-Saud, Saudi Arabian Astronaut

Can you brits post some pictures of Earth that were taken from British Satellites from outside the Solar System? Oh what's that? You can't?

Oh....well....er.....cool...I guess.

How is the British Space program doing lately?

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

"From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of particular interest. But for us, it's different. Consider again that dot. That's here, that's home, that's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Are you Agnostic to the Seventh Day Adventists God?
Are you Agnostic to the Southern Baptists God?

Because ALL of these religions have rules DIRECTLY relating to ones ability to enter into an afterlife. ALL of these different branches believe in a God with a different set of rules, a God with a different set of laws.

To categorize them as all being Christian" simply means that they all believe that Jesus was the Son of God.

BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT. They ALL worship a different God. Different in VERY definable terms. VERY definable laws, rules and regulations that these Gods require of their followers.

So WHICH one of THESE "Creator God's" is the correct answer?

Check out Sam Harris. He is considered one of the "Four Horsemen" by the religious crowd (one of the 4 Scientists who present strong arguments against Religion.)

I am not sure that I could consider Christians to be "Dirty". I would call them "Hopeful". SO hopeful in fact that they are willing to trade Science and logic for the hope that their life will not end and will continue on in a Magical Afterlife with all their friends and relatives.

Let me help all of the teen angst "Agnostics" out with a quick refresher on how Science works.

1- Ask a question?
2-Do background research
3-Construct a hypothesis
4-Test your hypothesis by doing an experiment
5-Analyze your data and draw a conclusion
6-Report your results

Without the Scientific Method you are Agnostic on the idea of Santa Claus, you are agnostic on the idea of Leprechauns.

Do you REALLY want people to know you cannot formulate an opinion on Santa Claus?

REALLY?

You are completely wrong in every way possible. Math is memorization plain and simple. I cannot remember one single time in my entire education where I was EVER allowed to take a test or quiz open book in Math.

It is ALWAYS a test of the ability to memorize the laws, rules and methods of mathematics.

If you cannot memorize the formulas then you cannot pass the courses.

If I have the formula right in front of me I can perform the simpler Math but it is a giant road block because I would end up having so much information in front of me I would have to have written down that my mind is incapable of storing.

Can you revive from your memory the rules for adding fractions, dividing fractions, subtracting fractions and multiplying fractions? Just basic simple fractions.

Having to reduce, then swapping top and bottom, etc.

I for some magical fucking reason cannot even do that. I have tried BELIEVE me I have tried. With such a strong huge interest in Math and having no ability to perform it Science is kept from me. I tried to take some Chemistry courses and was loving it so much. Even being surrounded by people only taking it as a requirement for nursing or medical to me it was amazing, astounding. After only a few weeks the need for formula memorization became more and more dominant and I was unable to continue.

World needs fry cooks too I guess. I only wish it was because of a lack of effort and not a block on my physical genetic limitations.

I WISH of all the things I was capable of doing with my mind I WISH I could do Math. My brain is a Piece of Shit.

I can memorize nearly any song instantly the first time that I hear it and bring it back from memory after 10-20 years.

I cannot remember how to do fractions after trying to memorize even the simplest of rules over and over for hours upon end. It just does not stay into my memory. I have no clue why.

For some reason my brain cannot memorize anything more than basic adding subtraction and the simple times tables.

COOL STORY that I was born with an insane ear for music. TOO BAD I AM NOT INTERESTED IN MUSIC! Way to go Mother Nature. Thanks for fucking my anus. I had the honor of sitting through pretty much every day of Math class looking like a complete fucking idiot. Cheating my ass off as the only possible way to graduate. Barely graduating with a non regents 8th grade math level that in reality should be a fifth grade math education level or lower.

Oh I LOVED having every teacher, tutor and my parents tell me
"You are not trying"
"You do not care"
"You are not applying yourself"

It is frustrating to sit through class after class after class with absolutely no ability to memorize the rules and laws for Maths and to be expected to.

BUT I can sing you nearly any television commercials jingle!

>Implying a species so far advanced would want to communicate with beings who have nearly every aspect of their society and culture revolve around Sex and Sex Organs.

-When sex organs can be displayed

-To whom sex organs can be displayed to

-What types of coverings the sex organs are blocked by

-The niche in society to which you belong in regards to the fashion that you use to cover up your sex organs

-The rules to which your religion adheres regarding your sex organs

-The photo relaying image boxes that consist of entertainment in the form of humans having multiple sexual partners and spreading multiple diseases in a land mass known as "Coastal New Jersey".

This planet is a backwater average shit hole in the far off edge of a typical galaxy. We have barely been leaving Earth's atmosphere for 50 years and you fuckers are already talking about joining the "Galactic Empire".

Stupid fucking primates. You do realize that the odds of a species being relatively close to our level of technology are very rare?

Even 1 Million years of a technological head start to our species would more than likely make the advanced species completely unrecognizable as life to us.

We are SO LATE IN THE GAME! Life could have originated as Early as 12 Billion years ago! We are JUST NOW STARTING!

Primates....lol. At least we dream big.

Disappoint that Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥasan ibn al-Haytham (Alhazen) the human who discovered the Scientific Method is not on the list.

"Therefore, the seeker after the truth is not one who studies the writings of the ancients and, following his natural disposition, puts his trust in them, but rather the one who suspects his faith in them and questions what he gathers from them, the one who submits to argument and demonstration, and not to the sayings of a human being whose nature is fraught with all kinds of imperfection and deficiency. Thus the duty of the man who investigates the writings of scientists, if learning the truth is his goal, is to make himself an enemy of all that he reads, and, applying his mind to the core and margins of its content, attack it from every side. He should also suspect himself as he performs his critical examination of it, so that he may avoid falling into either prejudice or leniency."
