Higher education is based on Cosmology, Music, Geometry, and Number the Quadrivium. Trivium is Rhetoric, logic, and Grammer these make up the seven liberal arts. The Greek system is in higher education because each Greek letter has a value this system I have dubbed "Isosophia " which means in search of the love of wisdom.

So, I heard a very good thought experiment the other day which demonstrates evolution and why we do not see step changes (IE a frog turns into a cat).

We accept the truth that there is, for all of us, a continual chain of ancestors which stretches back to the origins of life - the primordial soup. So..

Imagine yourself at the head of a line, behind you is your mother, behind her is her mother (your grandmother). The line goes back 1000 years. It is very likely you would look very much like the person at the back. You would be able to breed with them. Now go back another 1000 years. THe person at 1000 years would recognise the person at 2000 years and of course be able to breed. (forget these are all mothers, error)

Go back 10000 years. Every 1000 years the person should be able to breed with the person 1000 years behind them. But there comes a point when you will not be able to breed with a person from, say, 20000 years ago. Even though they are a direct ancestor of yours.

Go back far enough and you will not even recognise one of your direct ancestors as a human.

Evolution is a series of subtle changes that adapt an organism for changing needs. It is not a sudden step when a cat pops out of a Frogs egg.

People hate losing money about twice as much as they love making it: It takes a $20 discount, researchers have found, to make up for the sting of a $10 surcharge on a purchase. That is one reason why even experienced stockbrokers often sell stocks while they are still increasing in value, leaving money on the table rather than risking a loss. Prospect theory’s central formula lays out how we go with our gut when determining the value (V) of a possible outcome (x) with a given probability (p). It takes into account many of people’s most predictable—and, at times, peculiar—financial irrationalities: shying away from losses, for instance, and overestimating tiny probabilities like the 1-in-10-million chance of winning the lottery.

I heard something once about "having a witness to your life" being the reason we often desire to find a partner for life. I definitely desire this ... someone to testify that I lived, to share my misery and joy. But I definitely know people who are happier alone or with dogs.

By the way, if anyone is unfamiliar lund check works like this: 16 digit CC number, take every odd digit and double them. if faced with double digit number, add them up to get single digit. once you have all those new numbers, add them to all even numbers but 16th, you will get a number around 55-65, the 16th digit, when added must total a sum perfectly dividable by 10. so 1-15 add up to 63, 16th will be 7 on a valid card.

so there is this mod 10 check or lund check to verify a credit card number is valid (not necessarily activated) but i was wondering if anyone had worked out the algorithm used to generate CVVs % co from card numbers? or is it absolutely random? i highly doubt it would be.

Come on guys, if we do this we could all walk away a little richer.

Now can you predict the price of

MTGE, and GM?

I know MTGE tends to stay around the twenties since its a dividend stock.

Hey guys. Looking for a few words of encouragement and/or not.

I'm a math geek. Have been since I was 14 or so, when I was bit by the "math bug" after doing an erroneous construction of a regular heptagon with a compass and straightedge, and finding out what a spectacular failure it was. For me, I've always known that I want to be a mathematician, since they're, like, the coolest wizards, bar none. I mean, what beats being able to go full Aspergers mode and ramble on about the subject, and get people so lost, and yet the words coming out of your mouth are true?

So, here's the thing. I got permission to take any math classes I like, to study on my own, without having to pay tuition and go to history classes to learn about Wikipedia. So I decided to crack open Hardy and Wright for a go at it.

Now, I'm not gonna lie, I think it's hard as fuck, and I'm no particular genius, but I'm smart enough that I find if I just sit and think about it for a while, I can usually figure it out. And, in general, I tend to be pretty good at whatever I put my mind to. Now here's what I want from the next few years of my life: I want to plow through that book and learn as much as I can. My immediate medium to long-term goal is to develop my skillz sufficiently to the point where I actually understand, on a deep level, what the fuck that book is actually about. And, as the authors have so tantalizingly placed in the introductory chapter of their book, Theorem 6 I believe, is the Prime Number Theorem. I'm determined to go through it until I can complete the promised proof of the PNT on my own.

Am I retarded?

Hey guys, I have this troublesome formula I want to make for martingale betting , You have two variables, one is B (amount of bets) and the other is M (money)
for example if M= 210 and I set B = 3 then the result would be 30
because 30+60+120= 210
If M= 340 and I set B = 10 than the result woud be ?
I am sorry if this info is a bit lacking, i find it hard to explain, please be gentle with the math, I am terrible at it:(

Sup /sci/, first time here. ap psychs tomorrow, anything I need to know?

The released tests are incredibly easy, and I could've gotten a 3 without the class, but I didn't wanna pass up on the free GPA.

Thanks for the response. I remember learning about identities.

What about the other question? Where does the tan get put if the fraction has more in it?

>> No.4370992 [View]

Guys can we please stick to the topic. This is just a sample picture that came with my computer. My teacher said the internet was a good resource for extra study, and I'm hoping to get a thing or two out of it.

>> No.4370978 [View]

>>4370968
Thanks. How did you get that? I'd love to learn the processes and not just have the answer.

What if more stuff was on each line, where would the -tan(x+4) go? Example, 3x * -sin(x+4)/cos(x+4)

Sorry, I don't know the general etiquette of this place.

Im pretty sure it can't, since the sin and cos symbols can't be put on their own in a calculator, therefore it wouldn't work on paper. Is this right?

Hey guys, I'm not the greatest at math so be nice with this one. Only started doing basic algebra recently at my local tech school in hopes of getting a degree somewhere down the line. Searched 'science and math board' in Google and this was the first result to come up.

I have this:

-sin(x+4)/cos(x+4)

Can the x+4 cancel out, or can this be simplified at all?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Its cool....here is another question for ya.

Cell Junctions, how do they work and what do they do?

>> No.4222453 [View]

I know it doesn't have much to do with your work, but its a serious question.
