mmmm... kind of. The combustion side is different because coal furnaces would have to be replaced to combust natural gas. I mean, technically, yes you can convert any fossil fuel plant based on the fuel type, but it would still cost money. Money that businesses are not willing to put forth right now.

I'm a mechanical engineer that is self-taught on economics. I'm still learning, but it's crazy interesting to me. I work a well paying engineering job to basically fund my account. I'm working my way to become a full-time day trader.

Really, I can't tell you what to do. If it were me, I'd probably set a limit on a loss, keep an eye on it for a couple of days, first bullish day, I'd get rid of it. You can write off up to $3000 in losses on your taxes if you itemize.

We'll see. NG is cheap (high supply and low demand) but you have to have systems that use NG. You can build power plants near landfills that harvest methane and can power significant areas. But you need a government subsidy for an idea like that to take off, really.

5 years from now you'll make money off of it. If you want to make money now in this volatile market, it isn't going to be holding C @ $29.

My strategy of late is playing the other side of shorters on bounces on stocks that are $1-$5. It's risky but can pay off.

Then this place is the perfect spot. Science is about testing an prediction and applying logic and rationality to a system. Predicting and analyzing the market is science.

Not with oil prices down. I believe NG is considered an alternative energy that needs government subsidies to really take off. And no governments have money to hand out.

I didn't start a daily thread today because Monday seemed like a waste of time. I actually took today off from trading and glad I did. I was feeling bullish and probably would have made bad calls all day and wasted money. Also, my broker was pulling in all margin calls within a day which could have fucked me.

I went surfing today instead.

There will be plenty of volatility the next couple weeks. This is good for intraday trading. I suggest people getting into this to be safe but there is money to be made. Pick a strategy and stick to it; go read at investopedia.com. Remember, if you have less than $25k in your account, you can only have 3 day trades in 5 consecutive business days. I had my account frozen one time because of this.

I'll think about starting one tomorrow morning, but who knows.

I'm signing out for the day. Check back tomorrow morning, I'll try to start another thread if anyone is interested.

Also, I'm a mechanical engineer. Why do you think financial institutions hire engineers, physicist, mathematicians? Because they can do the necessary math.

Economics not being a science is a retarded argument from people that don't understand it.

Science is the practice of applying ration and logic to understand a system. Testable predicitons (buying low thinking it'll go high). Applying theories and formulas to make predicitons ("The Quants").

So, false, trading/investing is a science. Go back to /b/.

Yes, seems to have leveled and will probably fade for a nice short since the time I said a short opportunity starts now around 1145 or noon.

Afraid of what?

I'm seeing that QE3 is unlikely to be announced. General sentiment seems to think that no QE3 will be a disappointed market.

Who the fuck knows really? The market is like a fucking girlfriend that is PMSing. Loves you one second, hates you the next, but all she wants is ice cream.

Things to look out for shorting would be a sharp bounce, usually close to open. A textbook shorting opportunity would be to sell on the peak and after a nice long fade out, buy, or "cover" your shares at the end of the day. At the peak, you need to look at volume and spread for reversal.

I suggest reading tons at investopedia.com. There are some very helpful intro articles there to get you going.

TVIX is a fund set up to capture the volatility of the market. In tumultuous times like now, volatility is high and these funds do very well. Buy that when everything is very ho-hum, but you expect shit to hit the fan (remember Arab Spring at the end of Feb, look at the volatility in the aftermath during March). Volatility is the indication that the market is unstable and has large swings, high volume, panicking, etc.

My two favorite (risky) funds right now are $FAZ and $FAS. One is a buy for bear markets and the other is the opposite, a buy for bull markets. Both are set up for 3x, which means they have high beta positions to outperform the market as much as 3x.

I'm not sure really how it could react. The only thing I think would be safe during QE3 would be treasuries or gold.

Either way, from what I'm reading, it would be unlikely that QE3 will be announced.

>> No.3538192 [View]

Also, despite big ride today, the market is still nervous. If he spends his time dancing around and doesn't have something strong to calm these beta male of a market, it could slide today and next couple of sessions.

Man, I'm not sure how the market will react. Most people think QE2 was a failure and some see QE3 would be taking us closer to a recession. Some see QE3 as an allowance though, so market could take kindly to it.

I'm not going to hold anything going into it. Hopefully, whatever he says, it makes shit super volatile and I'll have a field day tomorrow.

WSJ, Reuters, it's supposed to be 1430 EST I believe. Somewhere you can stream it I believe, not sure where though. Anyone know where you can stream Bernanke's talk?

$IRE will probably slide to below $1.20 at close, leaving a lot of people holding the bag who bought into the sharp spike as a real move at open.

Is anyone even reading this, or am I wasting my time? Haha, I feel like I'm liveblogging my moves which don't really benefit me.

Look at the squeezes on VHC. Haha, I'm tempted to get in on one of these oscillations but shit is just funny to watch. There have been 3 short opportunities and 3 long opportunities yielding 2%+ each in the last hour.

If you are interested in trading, I highly recommend looking this stock up in candlestick form and study the shit out of it. There is a lot to learn here from volume, reversal indicators, etc.

It's very risky and volatile. I've been saying that since I said keep an eye on it. There have been 3-4 playable trades just today with profits anywhere from 20% to 3-5%. It's playable at a technical level. Pretty easy to read actually. I'm just scared about getting fucked by the shorters though since I'm not playing the short.

>> No.3538063 [View]

>>3538055

Yeah that's helpful. But it doesn't always capture all of the news. Big news and large capital stocks are covered well though.

Anyone keeping an eye on VHC? Probably a short opportunity right now.

No problem. Investing/trading is VERY similar to gambling. And just like gambling, don't use money you can't be without. And do your best to keep emotion out of it. Just a few brotips.

That's small capital man. They gotta raise money somehow to expand, especially if it's research. Not necessarily dumb. Unfortunately they dilluted the shares, but that's not always permanent.
