Well, according to legend, he never touched a sip of alcohol, because of an incident as a child when he got drunk and was beaten brutally by his father

the reason for this, was because of he king Saul, the first king of Judea, who died in a decrepit state, totally oblivious to the world around him, for he did nothing all day but get drunk and cry and fight and pass out in foul places

Solomon's destiny was to commune with the spirits of the land

He did so by standing amid the thunderstorms with a great iron rod, and allowing himself to be struck by lightning
He did this every time there was lightning above, and he was almost always seen talking, very often arguing with himself

His father, king David, connected with the spirits by soaking in the blood of his slain enemies,

and his predecessor, king Saul, just like the prophet Samael before him, connected with the spirits by getting drunk as much as possible
