Consider the cost of food production, energy collection, and human comfort maintenance. That is literally 'all' of civilization to date. Reducing the overheads is easy as ensuring that people have some sort of cuddle-slut squad that whips up moral and shit. Isolating genders is a no-go and forcing people to work more than 3 hours a day (for the simple laborer) would not be required with sufficient planning.

The question I really have here is how FAST do you want to go because if we don't care about external influences (because why would we? we're a self-sufficient commune) then all that 'extra time' those people have would be to make stuff they could sell to external markets in order to purchase goods and materials in stages until you have your own fabrication setup.
