Unfortunately it isn't going to happen.

Firstly, there is nowhere for it to go. The nearest exo-planets which are believed to be Terran, that have been recently discovered are about 20 light years away (Gliese or some shit) Now even if this planet is similar to ours, it the gravity/atmosphere will be slightly different, thus making it as hard to settle as the moon. I'm assuming we'll be able to combat the effect of weightlessness by using gyms and those spinning gravity rings which simulate the Gs you get on Earth. (I think they're planning to attach a module like this to the ISS soon)

Now, using current propulsion techniques, after we sling shot our way out of the solar system it will take hundreds of thousand of years to get there. Now consider that one of the longest surviving civilizations on Earth-Egyptians have only been around for about 3000 years. The 'Western' civilization has been around for a fraction of that time, and we also have the capability wipe ourselves out using nuclear weapons.

While I would be the first to volunteer for such an endeavour it is just not feasible at this time, with our current attitudes, if ever.

Nasa would never get the funding for such a mission, as it would not directly benefit anyone on Earth within their lifetime.
Nor a private company such as SpaceX as they simply won't see any financial return.

Instead focus on colonising the solar system (and perhaps underwater) for the resources. Colonising actual planets will only be viable if underground. Let;s not forget that 'space' itself offers limitless real estate space.

In the mean time however, send robots to the Stars, so that the future generations may study them.

Space X had some concept vids on their youtube channel, with this cg rocket which would launch, and the boosters would land back on the launch pad with their own mini engines.

Not sure how they can get away with giant explosive filled tanks hustling towards earth, but it looked pretty cool.

However even If I was to sell all my shit/organs and save up enough for a ticket, the waiting list would be immense, the ones with the connections would obviously go first.

I wouldn't mind a one way trip.

Maybe there's some sort of IRL project where you could donate your body for augment experimentation.

Call it pseudo philosophy or hipster contemplation, but whenever I think like this I get overwhelmed, and if you really think 'deeper' it makes you feel weird. From there just try to define 'nothingness' and then start looking at the 'truth' around you, build up from that.
It's annoying that I get distracted by all these real world abstract things, like money etc. It's bizarre.

ITT: Transhumanism.

I know that in reality transhumanism is going to mean altered genes and stuff as sadly, I doubt many people would opt for mechanical augments. I for one would gladly give up my 'humanity' and get robotic limbs etc. Seeing how we can't seem to stop the ageing of a brain, immortality is a big problem. Even if some sort of technological singularity were to occur and you could regularly back up you current consciousness it wouldn't solve the problem, you would still die and only a copy of you would go on living, I cannot get my head around this concept.

Hey, I made that, and people have posted much better, and efficient designs that that one.

I'm an atheist and I don't give a shit, I love nature and I can't get over how beautiful and random it is. Science is more accessible and interesting to me whenever I get curios and try and figure things out. Going to the church and singing hymns doesn't provide me with answers or comfort, instead it tries to force me to think a certain way and follow a twisted morality.

I'll be here enjoying the sunny day and marvelling at the fact that I have a consciousness and free will. Enjoy being a slave to your own delusion.

You don't need to make sense out of life or explain everything. When it comes down to it, being alive is amazing and you don't know how lucky you really are to have a consciousness and an 'intelligent' brain to boot.

And if you're curious, like most humans are, well science attempts to answer these questions and the answers it provides are exponentially more interesting, understandable and accessible than any faith or religion. That's why I cannot stomach most preachy religions, things like Buddhism I'm okay with, you can take it's lessons and apply them to your life, but things like Christianity and it's twisted morality, I cannot abide by it.

I dislike Dawkins, he makes atheists look like a bunch of angtsy teenagers. Remember when being an atheist meant you simply didn't indulge in following some crazy religions? That you just got on with it, happy with the fact that you were alive, experiencing the natural beauty of our world? Well now christfags believe atheists are some kind of butthurt militants. If Dawkins really was smart he would just ignore these idiots, I know it's depressing seeing the world go down the shitter because of religion but there is nothing we can do about it, just live your life.
