romans and greeks are far away from the pyramids.

Did you know you are closer chronologically to the founding of rome, than ceasar was to the building of the pyramids?

>the more you know!

not at all, some things happen by chance or are influenced by conscious decision.

>"we're not doing XXX"
so, you know the future do you? I'm glad, now we don't have to bother trying new research on anything!
Now, you may be right, but still, provide evidence because it doesn't seem impossible to me, we can already alter things at that level, and with hundreds of years of progress.. i'm thinking we can build at those levels, which we can already affect greatly.
>sustaining itself indefinitely
nobody is saying this you massive pus stomping retard. Anyone in this thread says technology is at a point of growth, as has not leveled out, what it will reach will inevitably be greater than our minds.

oh, but I forgot you're always right no matter what because you said so.

I hate you.

There will be no "informed debate" on /sci/.

unfortunately the discussion of the technological singularity will always boil down to conjecture about where technology is and where it is going to be.

On one side, you have people that think technology will continue to advance, and that the human brain is by no means the pinnacle of information technology, they state that eventually a computer will be made that is better than our minds, this is CONJECTURE. And while current data supports them, there is no way to be absolutely 100% certain that it will happen.
leaving room for the doubters, who as the opposite of these others, are also convinced they are the sole members of the i'm right no matter what forever club. Their chief arguments seems to be "nuh uh man! that's the future so it's impossible!"
I feel as if their arguments are sorely lacking any kind of data or feedback, which their opposition has. So you can imagine which side i'm beginning to lean toward.

>inb4 i'm called a retarted super wrong faggot for just stating both sides of this thread. Damn kids, when is break over.

how did you determine your Iq? internet tests of course don't count, I assume you went to a psychiatrist or through a credible establishment like mensa?

also, how hard is it for you to identify with other people outside of academia? I feel closer mentally to them, but our backgrounds are often too different for me to make any real connection with people in that social climate.

You didn’t notice.
As your stories grew, and your mind decayed.
You created your world. And were happy.
You forgot your questions, your doubt.
You forgot you were alone.

But in the back of your mind you feel it still.
The fear you cannot name, the lie you would never tell.
But you know.
The world is dark, there is only silence.

And you are alone.

He said you had someone to introduce you to. A pretty girl.
You were so excited.
You needed to impress her.
You made yourself a room. Not too fancy, but comfortable.
a place for your dreams.
You imagined a body. You needed one, to impress her.
Firm, bursting with energetic passion, she would surely love it.
A job, a family, a life. You needed them all.
And to you, they were real.

You made up a friend.
A companion in your mind.
A conversation with yourself, you said, surely is better than none.
He grew to have a personality. A character you gave him.
A story of a person in your head.
Sometimes you would surprise yourself. Oh, the laughs you two would have.
You couldn’t help but think.
You were not alone.

Loneliness can be a powerful thing.
An endless prison, of silence, of darkness.
This place was not for a living mind.
And you were alone.
Always, you were alone.

You thought of many things. Mostly of yourself. That's all there was.

Maybe you had been created through some warp in energy? Maybe this space
was always meant to come alive, maybe you were just getting ready to
move on to some greater existence. Maybe, you weren’t alone. Maybe someday you
could even be free.
With an eternity, anything is possible, you told yourself.
Again and again.

But there was only silence.
