In this case, the contents of the brackets is clearly intended as a supporting argument for your assertion. You must believe that mental disorders are, or to be lenient, are "like" characteristics which don't serve a purpose.

This is false. The concept of a mental disorder does not exist to try and categorise normal and abnormal behaviour, useful or useless, and so on. (What a cruel and pointless goal that would be!) It exists to assist people with mental conditions which render them unable to live their life as they wish to and would normally be able to by categorising different types of impairments and their likely causes, treatments etc. Homosexuality is not a mental disorder as it does not in general, in itself, impair people from living their life as they wish.

It seems to me that a good portion of men are completely straight and would still have no interest in sucking a cock or doing anything else with other men if the taboo were removed.
