I'm just saying that the investment in the system would be well spent money, the collateral would be huge, the life loss for the civvies in the south not so much.

Also I'm not convinced that the north is as bad as the insurgents in the east, I suspect most of them know they live in a society where they are very oppressed and know the south has it better, but don't do anything about it because of fear.

The defectors who have made it south that I've heard interviews with seemed to know that if they screwed up at all they were boned, and that the south would welcome them.

The reason you don't defect from the north is because if you do, they put your whole family in labor camps, so they really are boned until we the regime collapses.

Not very many before we've counter-attacked the artillery. You're putting a modern military against a 1960s cold war era military.
They have the potential to do a lot of damage to Seoul just because of proximity, but they won't be able to sustain a war for long, we have superior weapons and the capability to supply our troops, the north is living in poverty as it is, and a war would break them.

The only thing we would worry about at all in the long run is if China decided they wanted to step in, but that looks unlikely.
