Actually I'm unemployed with benefits. I have a wild theory about true nature of magnetism and my working-his-ass-off PhD pal looks "when he has time from work".

Ugh. Nobel price in front of his eyes and he decides to work.

Why do scientists always give some passive aggressive response if you ask them an existential question? Like if you bring up anything that science can't explain like why there is something rather than nothing, they just laugh and give some unsatisfactory answer or a joke answer and act like it's no big deal that there are things they can't answer.

Surely it should be the people that actually matter, right? The 25 - 60 age group of healthy people with jobs and families? The people we need for civilization to continue going forward. Even one of those people matter much more than 1,000 nursing home residents on the verge of death anyway, COVID or not.

We didn't really just waste a year of our lives and make thousands of people lose their jobs to keep a few 300 year old senile grandmas alive for a few months longer, right? A species that stupid wouldn't get where we are today, right?

We didn't really all just change our lives (and the lives of people not even born yet) potentially for a very long time with the economic effects of the lockdowns, for a few thousand boomers?
