Why is /sci/ so full of drooling brainlets? It's almost like you've never read a fucking book.

this isn't a better argument than when it was posted before

If you wanted to say 0 or 1, then why don't you just say 0 or 1 you fucking mongrels. An infinite series is not necessarily the same as a real number just because it converges.

/sci/, I don't think I have OCD, but I have this very strange obsession.
Essentially, I'm fascinated by the idea that I am in a Groundhog Day loop that spans my entire lifetime. Every time I die, I will restart my life from the day I was born, but with all my memories intact. I will continue this endless cycle of restarting and restarting until I solve the Riemann hypothesis, at which point this will all be revealed to have been a simulation with the express purpose of getting a proof (or counterproof). The simulation shuts down shortly thereafter. I am fulfilled.
Now, either the simulation just started (i.e. this is the first iteration) or I developed Alzheimer's in my last life and only vaguely remember some things, which I attribute to deja vu. Either way, I'm actually kind of really hoping this is true. I'm constantly thinking about how great it'd be if it were the case.
I don't have OCD, do I? I'm just a dedicated mathematician who loves his job.

>inb4 this is all true, I spend over a million lifetimes working up to the proof for RH, I finally present it, and the simulation doesn't end because I was actually supposed to solve the Goldbach conjecture or P vs. NP instead

Ethene, C2H4(g), reacts with aqueous potassium permanganate solution, KMnO4(aq), dilute acid, H2O/H+, and hydrogen bromide, HBr. Compare and contrast the reactions of ethene gas with each of these three reagents.

What kind of question is this called, when it asks for reagents? Does anyone know any videos on it? (I checked Khan Academy and such)

...so what effect does this actually have on the world, besides making you feel better about yourself because you have something in common with people who are actually smart?

Calculus lll student here:
Four weeks into my course and I have finally ascended my 2-d waifu obessions and have embraced the z-axis. My professor (300+ IQ) and I casually talk about quaternions and the complex plane and how amazing vectors are to mankind. It truly takes a special mind to visualize and understand quadrics on a implicit level, my speciality still remains to be the hyperbolic paraboloid, but what you plebians probably refer to as a 'Potato chip'

my fellow brainlet A student. how many people on /sci/ do you think are meming when they say they never go to any lectures and ace all the exams? I'm sure it's possible but I don't have the work ethic to exclusively self study.

How do i stop being a a brainlet? i just know how to do addition, subtractions, multiplications and divisions, i was pretty good at history, and subjects like that at school and high school but i always sucked in math, physics and chemistry (mostly because i didn't wanted to invest a lot of time in those subjects at that time). How i can learn proper maths? every book i read seems to be too hard, i just want a basic guide or book so i can start moving to harder stuff and so on.

>inb4 how did you pass high school? why you want to start learning now?

I did some basic exams to pass and my teachers were okay with it, i always liked the idea of being good at math, physics and stuff, as i said, i was pretty good at all the other subjects in school but practically all the jobs that i want require some grade of proficiency in maths.

Why are derivatives defined like this:

[math]f'(x) = \lim_{x \to 0} \frac{f(a+x) - f(x)}{x}[/math]

instead of this:
[math]f'(x) = \frac{f(a+x) - f(x)}{x}[/math]

wont the second be more accurate?
