Hi, /sci/
So, I'm an idiot and I'm trying to make some sort of list of fundamentals in math, going from "numbers are symbols" up through the various disciplines of math. Unfortunately, I'm having problems deciding how to.. sort of.. number this. Starting with #0 for "Why Study Mathematics?"
I'm trying to reproduce chart in the form of numbered nodes, but that doesn't really work.. some of these nodes share other nodes with more advanced nodes. It's not a clear flow from the first subject to the last. There are concurrent nodes and even further divisors..
I don't know how to arrange these in a way that puts them from the most basic to the most advanced. Can someone help me?

What's the next step after having finished trigonometry, calculus, basic differential equations and complex numbers?

I have a doubt with a (very very simple) probability question. It sais a bag has 4 red counter and 6 black ones. the counters aren't replaced. what is the probability that the counters are of different colours?

<span class="math">
I'm not sure if it's using P( R \mid B ) + P( B \mid R ) or to use P(R\cap B) + P(B\cap R)

Here you go. Pick a target and work towards it.

People in academia, if you had the chance to make a groundbreaking discovery, how would you like the aftermath to play out?

a) Obtain top honors/prizes, renowned and respected within community, not known elsewhere. Your social life will be 99% confined to university due to how much research you put in. No one from your past that looked down on you will respect you just for this. However, you will live a quiet life away from controversy and drama and the public's idiotic judgements; also, there will be no new age faggots misinterpreting your work. 100% science, 0% fame/glory (which, according to you, is not what science should be about).

b) You become the new Einstein or Steven Hawking. Media is all around you, respect from everywhere saying, "Wow, this guy is so smart!" Exaggerated tall tales about your intelligence or supreme ability. You will make people worship you just by walking into a grocery store. However, you will be at the mercy of journalists and retarded Yahoo commentators (and all the internet voices around the world). Whenever there is controversy, journalists will spill it all over the front pages. You will still be able to conduct good research, but your life will not be quiet. Still, you have the world at your feet, with money literally pouring into your hands with pure celebrity status (this is obviously optional, but you can take advantage of it by writing a book or going on TV).

Also, you can state what your research will be in, since that may affect the outcome.

You must stop worrying about human affairs, even your own fucking GPA- it is so trivial compared to what you will be able to see if you cut yourself off from this laughable world. Do not worry about what your grad school will do, or about some little praise, or some measly conquest of other people. Your symbols are no longer just toys, but are immersed in a living, breathing world, and if you explore it you will be able to control it.

It is hard to enter this phase until you truly see the significance of your problem. You must read and understand a lot of mathematics, even if it seems far away from your area, so that you will be able to visualize what you need. You may be able to force yourself to be in a place that increases your chances of entering this phase, but, like a man trying to leap a bridge, you cannot force yourself to be in it until you truly understand and are ready.

As you immerse yourself more and more into mathematics and away from the outside world's strict and meaningless expectations, you will get better at entering this state of mind.

How come the game Go seems to be synonomous with genius or mastermind in movies?

Pi (Two mathematicians discussing the amount of games).
The International (Banker in charge of weapons trade to allies and enemies).
A Beautiful Mind (They actually play a game called Hex which is just using a Go board with augmented rules).
