For the sake of being more positive for once, assuming Artemis is successful, what is gonna be the name of a Mars program? Is it just gonna stick with Artemis or something else?

While having people go to Mars for research is one thing, the idea of permanent civilizations there is not realistic. Instead space exploration should focus on making moon colonies as soon as possible.
>It's actually easier to live on the moon then mars due to it being far closer allowing for supply drops
>The moon unlike mars actually has economic interest in the form of mining and setting up further space operations, making further space travel far cheaper
>Unlike mars, there actually would be practical reasons for having people stationed on the moon for long/permanent which means the chances of it getting colonized is actually realistic

You have 10 seconds to come up with a scenario in which colonizing mars is preferable to building bunkers on earth or "terraforming" uninhabited land (the outback, the artic, the tundra, etc).
.... and 10. You didn't do it, right?
Even in the worst nuclear winter our planet is still 1 billion times preferable to mars colonization.

So can someone explain to me how this isn't all a massive PR stunt?

There was water and probably life on Mars in the past.
Could oil or natural gas possibly be on Mars?

So /sci/, I've been thinking about terraforming and it got me doing some math. How much oxygen would you need to rip out of the ground to raise Mars's atmospheric pressure to the point a human could survive? How does Mars's weaker gravity affect the amount of air you need for humans not to explode?

Why are people so dumb when it comes to colonizing Mars? They all seem to forget that the magnetic filed is weak as fuck, meaning you can't have a working atmosphere on Mars. Unless of course you find the way to "restart" the planets core or create artificial magnetic field somehow.

How can we go about terraforming mars in the most efficient way possible? Do we nuke it with a really large biological weapon that will cause a similar explosion as the early cambrian to cause an Oxygen ridden atmosphere? How do we go about doing this /sci/

So the first manned missions close to the moon were fly by missions. Could we by todays means and budget have a fly by mission to mars and back? I don't mean a landing but flying by in the gravitional field make a retro burn and fly back to earth. Can this be done and if so what would it take?
