CS isn't math; it just uses math in order to study modes of computation. It's not a subject that furthers the field of mathematics. Like mathematical physics, problems in CS can spur the development or creation of areas in math but it's an application and not a field of math (just like EM isn't math but vector calculus is).

If you want to read something more involved that goes beyond the pumping lemma in automata theory then check out "Elements of Automata Theory" by Sakarovitch.
