Like every other public school victim in America. Everything dumbed down to make sure the idiots don't fall behind.

Good but after learning that in China if you get a high enough score in the national mathematics test you are allowed to just study mathematics for the entire day and don't learn anything else in preparation for olympiads I realized that my education could have been way better. Why are the Chinese so based?

Wew, your goals in life are huge.

it's not dumbed down necessarily. many classes were too challenging for me. i quickly fell behind because i couldn't pay attention or take notes and didn't have the energy to do homework or the desire to learn it outside of school. it's not like i was holding up the AP class either, i got put in the remedial classes for dumb-dumbs.

it's too formulaic, too rigid. and high school teachers are insane.

Education being dumbed down wouldn’t even be so bad if it wasn’t for the constant propaganda, and the school board’s choosing memes over actual content
Paid a lot to go to what I thought was a good private school but was taught be science educators rather than actually passionate scientists
Because of this I didn’t find my passion for stem until a year ago, 2 years deep into my philosophy degree.
Fucking kill me

Not trying to call you a brainlet, just recognize that this is a poor argument wrt school being dumbed down (also anecdotal, brainlet)

American high schools from what I've seen (I'm Australian but my girlfriend is American) have way too many classes going on at once, like 7 classes a day, that's ridiculous, and the classes all move really slowly, it's the most inefficient way to learn, slowly and trying to do everything at once.

In Australia, for grade 11 and 12 at least, my education was phenomenal, 4 classes at a time, I could choose any class I wanted, no requirement to have any type of class, (you're also allowed to drop out if you're 17). There are only 4 classes, but you cover so much information in those classes, I went from learning about basic functions to formal proofs in two years and that was just from the 2 maths classes.

Also there were no rules there like in some other schools, no requirement to show up to class, nowhere was off limits, you referred to teachers by their first names, it was a very formal, but very relaxed environment.

If it helps, someone dumb enough to major in philosophy would have never had a chance in STEM.

that's not the argument i was trying to make. they're more than happy to let under-performing students fall through the cracks, whether they're brainlets or not.

Well, yeah. That's the problem with our education system. Teachers don't give a shit because they're just pumping out idiots every year. They try to teach their subject passionately, but they can't because none of the students actually give a shit. Why? Because they know they're just being mass produced. It's all horse and pony show. A day care for 12 years so parents can reenter the work force. They pump put more children who pump out their own children all the while working their middle class jobs in between. It's a perfect cycle for those at the top. The American dream I suppose.
