Have you ever done teaching/tutoring? Did you like it?

>> No.9932084

Lost my virginity in high school from helping a classmate out with her math homework.

Right on. If you’re actually smart you should either be getting paid or laid for it. Or both.

Ya, I worked for one of those private tutoring companies. It's great because in the end you're dealing with hyper intelligent chinks and japs with education obsessed parents, not kids who actually need help.

It's fine. I only dislike teaching "business" versions of math classes, or teaching very large sections (100+ people). For some reason those attract people that think they can cheat or use social attacks to get better grades.

Yup, twice. In public mainstream schools, and in a special school for kids who had been booted out of mainstream for various reasons ( fighting, drugs, truancy )

Hated it both times, but not for the actual teaching part of it, that was actually great and very satisfying, as well as challenging.

Mainstream school I hated precisely because so little of your time is spent on actual teaching. Also too many senior staff who are in positions of power over you and yet are plainly incompetent. I hated the way your time is dimed away by other shit like pointless staff meetings, extra curricular activities you care nothing about, and having to write lengthy personal reports on every student ( fuck, all you have to know about Johnny is that he got a C+ on his maths, if there was anything else important you should know I would let you know ).

Disliked all the "career" girl teachers, all young, all dress the same, all wear those CMFB, usually short with dark hair in a pony tail. Christ they look like they have come out of a cookie cutter, they take lots of sick leave, and the worse part is they have extremely poor classroom management skills. Get one of their previous classes and not only have you a class who learned ABSOLUTELY NOTHING last year, but you have to spend 2 months instilling any sense of discipline and work ethic back into the kids again. Then, without fail, these useless bints get knocked up, take maternity leave, then fuck off never to be seen again.

I also disliked all the "Go Getter" teachers who want to devote their entire existence to the school and want everyone else to do the same. Fuck that. I liked the actual teaching part but I have a life outside the school. I dont want to give up my free time to coach some fucking hockey team, or participate in the rehearsal for the umpteenth school play.

The special school was actually better than the public mainstream school in all regards to the above. More to the point.

I did a tutoring job at my college to earn some extra money. Its pretty good for meeting girls. That being said even though I met them I was not able to bang them.

This, no regard disruptors in your class.

Fun experience for the most part. Working with students who actually wanted to try was fulfilling.

I do remember one undergrad who seemed like a lost cause. This was in a Molecular Bio class, and she didn't know that humans got one set of chromosome came from one parents and the other set from the other parent. She also didn't know what a nucleophilic attack was. Keep in mind that Genetics and 2 quarters of OChem were a prereq for the class she was in.

I've informally tutored plenty of friends and classmates, always good fun. I'll also be covering for my professor's grad class for a week in a couple weeks, wish me luck!

Yes, tutoting, and I didn't like it. Too stressful for anxious and socially retarded person like me. I like explaining stuff in informal setting, when I am relaxed and can digress all I want and the task is not that dependent on theory of mind. I would think I could like lecturing better, since then I don't need to cater some specific person wants understanding for their money.

I worked as a math tutor in a community college learning center. I really enjoyed it.

Student access to the center was included with tuition (basically free). It made for a very casual and open environment. We had a around 5 tutors for 30-40 students in classes ranging from pre-elementary algebra to linear algebra. My center emphasized trying to keep sessions with any individual student down to 15 min or so. Made it easy to bug out of weird situations with unmotivated students. But it was also engaging to quickly hop from question to question. I even got to hold a few larger review sessions in a classroom type setting.

Tutoring is fun because you mostly get students who admit they need help, swallow their pride, and take time out of their day to meet with a tutor.

Teaching sucks because you have to deal with a lot of dumbass arrogant students who will try every trick in the book on you to improve their grade, everything from begging to complaining to your boss, except for actually learning the material.

Coached 2 students in community college. One made it to calc2 from college algebra. The other made it to precal and then stopped showing up, but still paying.

I then coached a kid from 1st grade to 8th grade for extra money.

Linear algebra was the highest math class offered at that community college. For the most part we helped people with elementary algebra. You might also enjoy tutoring at a similar university tutoring center with more experienced students.

I've tutored a few high school students in math and biology. It sucks when you help students who generally aren't interested in the subject, but when you help someone who's actually interested in the subject it gets so rewarding and amazing to see their progress.
