Good thread.
IMO the Lava Sun would win at first because it melts the ice. But then the ice would become water and put out the lava, so they would cancel each other out and you'd be left with nothing. I certainly hope an ice sun never hits our own!

This is wrong, there is no air in space so heat can't propagate and the ice sun would remain frozen until contact, they would cancel each other out and create a sun made of rock

So ice sun

Nope as a super-nova needs the shell to ignite which needs it to stabilize and become homogenous throughout its layers. And then, probably a supernovae?

How is this thread unscientific? You may see a lot of butthurt morons saying it doesn’t make sense, but then you have people actually discussing the ‘sun of ice’ dilemma. Those are the smart ones.

Now here’s the real answer: a sun of ice would cancel some of the lava from the sun of heat, but not all, for ice is simply frozen water which can fuel fires sometimes, so it won’t completely put out the fire.

There may be a lot of steam though, which might be why people are so nervous about the question: they don’t know how the steam will be displaced

-1000 C eh

Did America make up their 'imperial' version of centigrade?

Assuming it was around absolute zero, the lava ball will always win because the gravity of the ice-ball will cause it to rapidly heat up and start fusion reactions further melting the ice-ball until it is a mostly hydrogen star.

>> No.9667246

Wrong wrong. A "Sun of ice" (H2O) can't exist:

No matter what the temperature of the ice is, the weight of it all would cause fusion reactions at its core. This would vaporize anything, and soon you'd have an ordinary star. (Except for having lots of oxygen, which wouldn't be a big deal.)

Meanwhile the lava sun, being made of mostly carbon, silicon, and iron, but little hydrogen, would become a red giant star. It would be hotter and larger than the formerly ice star, but wouldn't last long.

This.

But the "lava sun" would have a lot of rocky planets orbiting since it has a high amount of Si (Silicon)

And the "ice sun" would have only gas giants orbiting around.

Ironically the Ice planet will end up hotter than the Lava planet.

The Lava "sun" would cool down very fast, becoming a Brown dwarf.
Since it's mostly silicates, without enough hydrogen for fusion.

The Ice "sun" by other hand will heat up, becoming hotter than the Lava "sun. because the gravity will ignite the hydrogen starting the nuclear fusion.

they would cancel out and create a 0°C singularity that transforms into an antimatter portal to one of infinite dimensions, most likely leading to World War III.
