Welp, got my final med school rejection today. I had a 3.99 GPA, a publication, and too many extra curriculars I forced myself to care about. Racked up service hours feeding the homeless and wiping ass in hospitals. I had 4 interviews, 4 Rs. Wasn't even waitlisted.

I cannot fucking do this anymore. I thought I did everything right. I would at least admit it if I didn't think I had a chance. I am figuring that I was rejected simply because I am moderately fucking ugly. I'm not deformed but not approachable I guess. I have acquaintances who had shittier stats than me and they still got in, probably because they're just good looking people.

I hate myself. Not sure how much longer. I have no money left. I'm losing my hair. My parents give me no sympathy. I have no friends. I am so close to giving up on existing.

OP I'm sorry for what you're going through, but it's important to remember that these admissions processes are very tough. I had a 99th percentile MCAT and only got one acceptance, for example. I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but there are plenty of other opportunities for someone with your background. You could live very comfortably and with less stress working in biotech or pharma, for example.

The thing that determines consistent "success" in life is adaptability.
How old are you? Perhaps now isn't the time that you go to medical school. Why don't you try to instead become a paramedic or an EMT or something in a peripherally related field to being an actual doctor. You'll be able to put some money in your pocket, and you'll still be a stone's throw from being a doctor or medical professional in the way you want to be (relatively speaking, as compared to being an accountant or a bartender).
Maybe the time for you to be a doctor is when you're old. We're taught that life is very short and there's a limited time to do things from a young age, but this is simply not a universal truth of life.

a lot of reasons.
i was somewhat naive in undergrad that all i needed to focus on were good grades, so that's what i did. i then started looking at how much they care about extracurriculars, volunteering, etc, and realized it was going to take a longer time to build that up.

additionally, the only medschool in the state hosted a meeting at my undergrad where they said more than 50% of the medschool was minority/female and that it wasn't enough, and i was unwilling to lie about being some sort of minority which was another factor.

i only really cared about becoming an ophthalmologist and didn't care for any other specialties, and i didnt want to risk going through school just to not become an ophthalmologist since it's so competitive.

i also don't care much for surgery unless it's ezpz and done by argon or YAG lasers, and as they aren't pumping out more ophthalmologists, states are expanding the scope of practice for optometry. i also didn't want to be on-call.

there were more reasons at the time, but it's been awhile and i've forgotten some reasons, but those are a few.

You might not get the same notoriety, but you would be making a massive impact by helping people in areas like that.
