Unrelated, op, make sure you speak the language, know the laws and know your rights. Other than that, slightly different culture at work, but engineering is still engineering, and general culture difference outside work.

With remote work, you can get past a lot of that.

I speak broken Spanish but i have a base to work with. I assume a lot of Mexicans can speak English especially for jobs in tijuana/mexicali

i was working on a contract, rather than as a permie, so i got paid considerably more than the locals doing the same job. but it was still only about half of my normal rate. still enough for me to have a pretty good standard of living though. nice apartment, rented car, eating out all the time and so on.
